My First School Visit At School

The Technology Savy Dusters On February 8th I did my first school visit to Holdridge High School. My first impressions of the school varied. On the outside and inside the school looks very clean and up to date, which is a great thing. The one thing that I found alarming was that the school did not have a buzz in system. They just had the doors unlocked and you had to continue around a corner until you hit the office. I visited an independent art class, which had various grade levels. The classroom management was very casual since it was independent art class. Even though it was independent work the teacher motivated the students to pay attention and do their work to the best of their ability. He was always present if the students had any questions or if they needed supplies. The teacher also did a nice job of redirecting students who got off task by talking to much. He treated the students very maturely and they took ownership for their actions. I was not surprised by this statistic due to the fact that Holdridge is a smaller town with a heavy white population. The principal said that the school is pretty much split 50/50 female and male. In the art class there were a lot more females than males. The art teacher even said that more females take art classes than males but that they are working on getting more males involved. The teacher met the students needs by making sure each student had the right materials and if they needed more he wrote it down and said he would have it by tomorrow. The teacher truly wanted each student to be successful in this class. Another amazing thing is that they talked about how they cater to lots of students with various disabilities, which is very important for schools to do.
