The beeping from my alarm clock stunned me awake. Rubbing the crusty eye discharge away I sat up and slowly swung my legs onto the floor. Realizing my first day of high school was a mere couple of hours away; and I was not prepared for the day. Feeling the nerves already I got dressed and attempted to eat something before making my way to the bus stop down the street. Gathering up my supplies and stuffing them into my backpack, I headed for the front door where my mom was waiting for me to send me off on my way. Hugs and kisses, the door swung shut behind me; walking all I could think about was the ghastly stories I had heard about the upperclassmen preying on the freshmen, like lions taking down antelope in the safari, Fresh meat is what they …show more content…
Fumbling through my backpack to find my campus map I tried to find the cafeteria. Coming down the gymnasium stairs I spotted a crowd of people in front of tables and guessed that was where I needed to be. Making my way to the table marked for last names starting with K-O I received my new schedule. Next, I heard the five minute waning bell rang so I again referred back to my campus map to find my first period. Once I had my new schedule and map in hand I realized I was completely on the opposite side of where I needed to be. Stopping and asking some of my peers for help seemed to do no good as we all had this stare of cluelessness and confusion on our faces. With my very bad since of direction I managed to maneuver through the halls filled with juniors and seniors laughing and making jokes about us freshmen. Standing at the door of my first class I noticed everyone was already seated and the teacher was talking I glanced at a nearby clock to see that I was five minutes late. Slowly I turned the door handle so no one would notice me as opened the door trying to slip in unnoticed, fail, the teacher brings attention to me saying, “ hurry up we don’t have all day,” I quickly took a seat. After, making it through first period I was already drained and ready for lunch but I had two more classes before I could semi relax and eat. Heading to math next I
Many students think their general education classes are going to be easy. This assumption is usually made because they are the basis of all of the advanced classes. When students sign up for classes for their degree, English 101 is often a requirement. Therefore, students put it on their schedule without a second thought. Most students do not realize how hard such a basic class could be. Mrs. Fox’s English 101 class is hard because it is time consuming, requires a lot of responsibility, and contains a difficult grading system.
Freshman fifteen is the NEW EPIDEMIC!!.. or not? In the eyes of freshman, college can be seen as entering the lion’s den when transitioning from high school. Students routines, diets, and moods drastically change resulting in an imbalance of one’s well being. As a way to cope college freshman typically look towards food for a release. Therefore, this is where the term freshman fifteen was born. Freshman fifteen is the idea that in one’s first year of attending college, the student will gain fifteen pounds. On average students are gaining weight at an abnormal pace however, it is not exactly the amount that the media has portrayed.
When I was young they used to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and until six years ago I never knew. It took me exactly eleven years until I figured out the one thing I wanted to do with my life. The very first show I performed in was Guys and Dolls, and from then on my devotion to acting only grew. I feel as though the Early Middle College Program is a good opportunity to further myself in my future goal of a Master’s Degree in Musical Theatre, as well as saving money while doing so. The Early Middle College Program is a very large stepping stone on my way to a Master’s Degree, and is the most effective way to get where I want to be.
Just by taking an educated guess, I believe it is pretty safe to assume that not everyone can recite the Preamble verbatim. If you cannot recollect what the Preamble states that is fine, no judgment here. Taking you guys all the way back to your 10th grade government class, the Preamble states:
Prepping has become the new fad. A certain show on television has sensationalized the life style and more people are jumping on the band wagon every day. Today, I wanted to talk a little bit about survival or emergency kits. There are several debates out there on whether a kit that will get you through 3 days is going to be enough. Well, we will touch on that…
After three long years of high school it is finally time to experience one of the greatest years of my life, senior year. There will be a lot of lasts this year. Last first day of school, last homecoming, last volleyball game. This year is all about making memories with my friends before we graduate and go our different ways.
I believe in doing your best and working to your fullest potential. By doing this, I believe that you can accomplish many great obstacles in life. For example, you can achieve many things by doing your best in school. If you work hard in class, turn your homework in on time, and study for tests, you can be a highly successful student.
It’s the night before the first day of high school. At 1:00AM, Jamie still nervously lies awake on her bed, while thinking about her new chapter in life. Middle school wasn’t the best experience for her, as she was bullied for being “overweight” and being a nerd. Neither boys nor girls liked her for the way she was. Jamie couldn’t wait for high school to start so she could never see them again.
On October 1995, black men marched to Washington after the call from Louis Farrakhan, who started the march, it was held around the national mall. The march was organized by black civil rights activists and comprised of the National Association for the advancement of colored people and the national Islam group who rallied people to march to Washington in the year 1995. The main point they were driving was to portray a different picture of the Black male and to make a union against economic and social ills that were faced by black American families. The committee of the event had invited very many motivational speakers to address the African American men from all over United States who had converged in Washington.
Everyone goes to highschool so everyone gets to experience what it feels like to be both a freshman and a senior. Typically, most people enjoy their senior year more than they do their freshman year, however there are positives and negatives for both. Freshman year is an introduction to change in most people's lives. Most people become more mature than they were in Junior High and try new things. Then there's senior year which is also an introduction to change in a lot of people's lives. Individuals prepare themselves for college or their career in which they plan on pursuing.
I had made some friend towards the end of junior year. So when I started senior year I had two friends. We ate lunch with each other every day. We hung out and made fun of each other. It was the type of relationship I hadn't had since freshmen year. The type of relationship i needed to allow myself to open up. I gained more confidence and started to talk to my friends friends. So i had a lot of people i knew and who i would say hi to when i saw them. i felt finally accepted into this community i had felt singled out by for so long.
I also agree that most people who volunteer do so for the sake of helping others, rather than for selfish reasons. I think it's fair to say that people do good because they want to make differences and give back to their communities. Charitable giving in any form involves a sacrifice of some kind, whether it be time or money; therefore, it makes reasonable sense to say that it is done for good intentions. The whole "feeling good" or satisfaction aspect can and should result from volunteering, but I wouldn't consider as the primary motivator to do good.
Looking back at freshman year my life was full of “first times”, first day of high school, first football game, first homecoming, first high school test, first practice...etc. I was just like any other high school freshman who walked the halls of Mayfield High School scared of the everyday challenges high school has to offer. And now four years later looking back high school had shaped my life more than anything else. Not only did school teach me math, english, and science, but compassion and my view on life. From the classroom to the basketball court the life lessons i've learned are irreplaceable. Going back to freshman year I remember impulse deciding to join the soccer team, not having played in five years. I enjoyed doing something new and being with all my friends but deep down I was itching for basketball season to come.
As we drive down 5th avenue, i got a sudden rush of anxiety and curiosity about my new school. When my dad pulls into the parking lot and we get out of the car, i see a woman waving at us as she approaches to greet me and my dad. The women takes us from the parking lot in the back to the front of the school. As we turn the corner to face the front entrance the school resembled an old church building with light and dark brown bricks. I walk through the doors of the front entrance into a bright, yet cold hallway. I walk down the hallway into my new classroom, uncertain about my future.
Heart racing, palms sweating, head pounding, tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. All the while I’m thinking to myself 4 more years just 4 more. It was around the end of the summer break August the 7th to be exact. My eyes were filled with determination as I sat alone side a bunch more like me (eager to be noticed hormonal filled teens). Our bodies filled with such anticipation, that of which we are blind to the knowing of what is to become of us throughout our time in this hellhole we call high school. As like many other freshman girls of my generation, education was the last thing on my mind. The bell rang at the struck of 7:00 am. The whole time I was just pasting down the hall thinking to myself ‘don’t touch me! ’yawl to loud
