My First Day At An Internship

This story takes place no more than a week ago. My day started early, I had woken up around 6 in the AM to go to school. My first period class was at Clearfield high school, as it is every B day. I take a veterinarian assistance class there and it is very fitting for the type of career I would like to pursue, as is my internship, but that comes next. I had left that class 10 minutes early like I do every day, because my next two periods are an internship in Farmington at the Bayview animal clinic. Today was my first day at my internship; I had spent the last few weeks preparing at the school for this day so I was very excited but nervous too. At this internship I will basically be shadowing the vets and vet techs. Like helping to clean, grab animals, observing procedures and surgeries, and do anything thing that they ask of me. …show more content…

I changed into my scrubs in the car and headed in for my first day. I was feeling a bit nervous because it was my first day and I’m a little shy, I also hadn’t eaten anything all day as I usually skip breakfast. As I went in the desk clerks greeted me and I told them I was here for my internship. One of the ladies walked me to the back of the clinic. As we walked through the clinic we passed a few tables with unconscious dogs lying on top of them. The desk clerk introduced me to one of the vet techs and told me I would be following her around today. The tech was working on an unconscious dog; she was spraying antiseptic on the dog’s abdomen in preparation for a surgery. She explained how my day was going to go and asked if I wanted to watch a surgery and I told her I would love to. She continued preparing the dog and when she finished she hauled the dog into her arms and carried it into the operating room. The tech introduced me to the vet that was preforming the surgery today and explained that I could sit or stand to watch, but to maintain some distance to not

    When I first arrived “Lisa” The girl that I shadowed told me that there was an emergency with one of the animals. It ended up that a one-year-old beagle ate an entire thing of metabolite, and then slowly started to die. The liver had shut down, and the heart rate was up to 300. Lisa told me that taking a thing of metabolite was like taking 50 cups of coffee at once. The owners of the beagle were there and bowling. The beagle’s name was Murry. Murry's body slowly was shutting down one thing after another. The owners made the decision the dog was going to be put to sleep. We got the dog ready to be taken out. They undid all the cords from the dog so they could take it to another room. I said goodbye to the dog, and then they took it into the other room so that the owners could be there when they put him to sleep. After that happened they then had to put a sleep a little hedgehog that had cancer on its mouth. We then did two regular checkups with one cat and with one dog. Those when great. After that we had a dog come in and it ended up having an affection that might end up killing it. I never heard the end result. The last thing that I did there was that a black lab had been bitten by another dog, and that dog ripped a hole in the neck of the black lab. The doctors had to perform surgery on the dog to close up the holes in the neck. They first had to clean it out with qutips. And blood stated to come out right then I was a little dizzy and I thought I was going to faint. But thank god I didn’t. I saw a cat get dental work on it. And a cat get a bath and they had to blow dry it and brush the hair while it was a sleep.

    Before the internship, I thought judges were of course humans, but I was hoping they were nice. I thought it was going to be a bit intimidating, but I knew I looked up and aspired their profession. It was like the day I was going to meet my judge I was so nervous, yet I looked forward to it. I remember I was surprised different Judges would run their courtrooms differently. I thought they would kind of have a similar system for things, which they sort of do, but not completely. Generally speaking, the Judges are great individuals and are very unique. Most of the Judges have lived pretty interesting lives and seem to enjoy their jobs. The Judges seem to be very knowledgeable, and very considerate of the Jury, court reporters, and their clerks. The judges of course seem neutral when in front of the jury as expected. For example, Judge Lippitt, does not allow anytime to speak over each other in her court room she is always saying that they have to be respectful there is a human being recording this, referring to the court reporter. Then, she is very considerate of the Jury and their time, she will tell them the trial is longer at times to make them happy if it ends early. Further, Judge Lippitt really cares about the jury instructions and that they are as neutral as possible. Something I have learned from Judge Lippitt, is that you have to be very careful as a judge to notice when attorney’s are acting a little suspicious. Another very significant lesson I have learned from Judge Lippitt is that preparedness and awareness is really important.
