My Favorite Experience In Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

My time in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was one of the best times in my life. I never thought that I would end up in such a wonderful country miles and miles away from my family and my home. Every day I learned something new about this city and along with this, I also learned things about myself. Around the last week of this program, I felt that I didn’t get to fully experience the city. Now when someone asks me what was my favorite experience or place while studying abroad, I don’t have an answer because I have too many. As I reflect back at my time there, the 14 other students and I encountered so much. Finally, we experienced Rio by our own. This is where I really felt connected to Rio. In small groups or all of us together, we explores the city by walking around, talking to people (well at least trying to), taking the metro to different areas of the city, and just taking it all in. At first, I thought that studying abroad in a different country was going to a culture shock for me. But it wasn’t really. The main reason was because I could relate the Brazilian culture a lot to my culture. On a daily bases in Brazil, I ate rice, beans, and different kinds of fruits. This is what I eat when I am home with my family. Also the language, Portuguese, is very similar to Spanish. I was able to understand Cariocas (people of Rio de Janeiro), but of course not all of the times. The most relatable thing that I could relate the Mexican culture with the Brazilian culture was the how the people of both Latin countries are diligent and motivated.
