I have always wanted to go back to school, which I did in 2007 and received my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate. I live in a small district in Baldwin, ME. There is only 1 doctor’s office, 1 eye doctor, and 1 dentist in our area. It has occurred to me that I may need to move but not until my kids all graduate high school, until then it is likely I will have to travel 50 of more miles to work. There are two exams that I found to be taken for certification. “The Certified Coding Associate exam (CCA) and the Certified Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS) exam” (Kaplan University Video, 2014). I will check with Kaplan University to make sure I have all the necessary schooling I need before taking the exams, if I do not I will take further classes until I am prepared. After this I will go to the American Health Information Management Association, and American Medical Technologists websites and apply to take the exams (Kaplan University Video, 2014). You have to go to a school that is accredited in order to receive your certification. Kaplan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (Kaplan University Video, 2014). The job outlook for this field looks good. According to (O*Net 2010) the projected growth is 22% or higher between the years 2012-2022 which is above average. One of those duties will be communication with fellow coworkers, patients, board members, doctor’s and more. They will oversee a whole office, or a unit of a hospital or multiple units of a nursing care facility. In some cases they will be in charge of finances, a business can’t stay afloat without proper attention to this. They might be in charge of scheduling of employees. This is integral to the structure of any facility after all they are the ones on the front lines with the patients.
