“What do you want to be when you grow up?” This question has always been asked from people wanting to know what are your future plans are. I have always pondered back and forth on this question. First, I wanted to be a pharmacist, then I wanted to be a dental assistant. For a while, I spent time researching jobs in the healthcare field trying to find jobs that I would be interested in. I did not want to become a pharmacist once I learned that it required at least eight years of school. And after research, becoming a dental assistant did not interest me. Sitting along side the dentist watching him work on patient’s teeth would bore me. I wanted a career that I would enjoy for years to come. Now, I have made up my mind and I know for a fact, that I want to be a nurse. I officially made my decision to become a nurse my senior year of high school. I decided this would be best for me because the nursing field has several different specialties. I would not be limited to just one job. Becoming a nurse would open new opportunities because there are several specialties within the nursing field itself. I would have the option of becoming a geriatric nurse, pediatric nurse, surgical nurse or emergency nurse. During my senior year my high school Since I had been practicing them for so long, they began to like second nature to me. I even apply the skills I have learned to my own daily life. When I’m helping out with sick family members, I keep my hands washed and never touch my eyes, mouth or eyes after handling contaminated objects. When I visit my great grandma, I will make sure she has taaken her diabetic medication and check her blood pressure. Her blood pressure is slightly elevated because she has hypertension. The normal range for high blood pressure is usually 120 over 80. Since she has hypertension, her normal range is 140 over
From the time a child enters preschool, teachers begin asking a common question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” That dreaded query has always haunted me, mostly because the way it was redundantly asked put a ton of pressure on me and my peers. The question was like a rusty nail being hammered into our head’s by society. I continuously had the cliché answers of becoming a doctor, teacher, or a police officer, but with serious reservations. After years of not having a clue, I started to think about what I like to do after the stresses of work and school were gone at the end of the day.
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
The career of my dreams is to be a pediatric nurse. You know how as a kid you say that when you grow up you are going to be a teacher, doctor, or a construction worker. Well not me I have always wanted to be a nurse, but about three or four years ago I decided that I wanted to be a pediatric nurse. The reason why I decided on being a pediatric nurse is because I love kids and I want to help make sure that children feel good each and everyday. I am also interested in the profession because of how much I will be able to help kids. Some of the challenges concerning a pediatric nurse is that I will have to go to college for a while. I think in the end that all of my schooling, hard work, and debt will all be worth it in the end. I hope that I will be able to accomplish my dream job by becoming a pediatric nurse.
What do you want to do when you grow up? Most children are often asked that question and they
I want to be a nurse, specifically a nurse practitioner. I have always been fascinated with the medical field and see a bright future in it for me. I have the opportunity of meeting new people every day with a variety of personalities. There is always something new to discover in this field. A nurse practitioner's job is to be able to diagnose and treat illnesses. They also prescribe medicine and run physical exams. I am highly interested in pursuing the career of a nurse practitioner because the healthcare field is always in need for medical professionals, it pays well, and I am helping people at the same time.
I am currently planning to attend Richland Community college and graduate as a registered nurse. The reason I chose this career is because helping out others has always driven me forward. I want to study something that I know I will be content doing for the rest of my life and registered nursing is the right choice. Being a nurse has a many perquisites, but my choice has nothing to do with the advantages that it will provide me with. It is more about the fact that I have the chance to make people who are ill feel better and also to hel...
Growing up I had always been asked the infamous question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?", and my answer had always been a shrug or a simple "I don 't know yet". If I was asked the same question now, I could confidently and very passionately say, "I want to be a doctor; a humanitarian who brings positive change in someone 's life.". It seems like a very general statement but I truly hope to one day become somebody who can use her expertise and profession to help others.
Most people question whether to go into a career in the medical field, but what really drew my attention to the profession of a Registered Nurse is the fact that they help people in more than one place, they are higher up in the medical field, and they put in a lot of time and effort in to tending the needs of their patients. The profession of a registered nurse is one that requires us to care for the health of others.
“To do what nobody else will do, a way that nobody else can do, in spite of all we go through; is to be a nurse,” said Rawsi Williams, a registered RN. This quote completely captures the duties and responsibilities it takes to be in a healthcare profession. Like many health care occupations, nurse practitioners provide ‘patient-centered, accessible, high-quality health care’ (NP Public Awareness). They learn their roles by practicing in education facilities before heading out to the real world where everything they have learned help to save people’s lives. Now achieving doctorate degrees, nurse practitioners are slowly widening the professional field for nurses everywhere by continuing to maintain contact with
When I was in elementary school teachers would ask students the generic question of what they wanted to be when they grew up. Immediately, I would respond I wanted to be a nurse. Now, I am an undergraduate student in college and still my answer has not changed. As I embark on this rigorous journey to become a nurse, I have started to consider how I will undertake the practice of nursing and what personal values I will incorporate into my professional values. When I am a practicing nurse, I plan to reflect on the role models that inspired me to become a nurse, incorporate my own personal strengths and talents, integrate Gonzaga’s mission into my own values, and contribute to the profession of nursing through social justice.
I never had a difficult time with the question, What do you want to be when you grow up. Dentistry has always grabbed my attention as a child. I was never afraid to sit in the “dreadful” dentist chair. I enjoyed the atmosphere and everything that went along with my visit. I loved the sound of drills digging into teeth and the aroma of fluoride filling the room. I remember telling my mother, “ You better not eat that candy, I’m going to have to give you a filling when I become your dentist.” The certainty I had to pursue that career continued until I turned twenty, and got to experience it head-on. After high school, I completed a dental assistant program, and landed my first job in an office shortly after.
Throughout the progression of early childhood stages up to young adulthood, you hear the question that is constantly getting asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” After hearing this question year after year, it really got me thinking about my future and life goals. The ability to learn and become educated to help people for the rest of your life says a lot about the type of person who puts others before themselves. This has inspired me to become that type of person and become a master at my future profession. After highschool, I want to go to college and study health and athletic training.
Growing up as children, my close in aged sister and I had the same dreams of being Medical Nurses, following in our parents and the women in both of our families footsteps. As we grew older, we experienced different things, I realized that my sister’s dreams had remained the same, and my dreams of becoming a Nurse, ended up being crushed. While working in the Retail/Warehouse Industry as a Front-end Cashier, I sustained a work-related injury and were diagnosed with having “tendonitis.” My job duties and functions had to be modified to accommodate the injury. Last thing I wanted to do was disappoint anyone for not being a Nurse. With the Medical field still in mind when pursuing a career, I sought out to
My dream career would be: Becoming a nurse. Nurses help people in many different ways. They work at a fast, but focused pace; work side by side with Doctors and surgeons. Nursing has been a dream of mine for many years. There are many different kinds of nurses. The nurse I would strictly want to become is a nurse specialized in geriatrics, taking care of people with dementia. To work in this field you have to have an understanding of what is all involved. To be able to understand all aspects of the different kinds
My reasons for selecting a career in nursing stem directly from my desire to help our prospering population and community. This career appeals to me because it embodies what I strive to become, a person of influence, a guide, a respected adult, a mentor, and a person that can be trusted and looked up to with great passion. Another reason for selecting a career in nursing has a lot to do with my current job position at Generations Elder Care. Working with the elderly community at this personal care home has enriched my life in many ways, including one for my passion of learning more about the nursing field. As I shadowed the nurses entering the facility I watched them do their assessments on the residents which has peaked my curiosity. I believe being a nurse presents daily challenges which are unique, interesting, and rewarding and that is another reason why I want to become a nurse. Knowing that I have helped someone in some way possible gives me a feeling of fulfillment and enjoyment that I never understood or had before. And this career offers just that, and that is exactly why I...
