When I was in elementary school teachers would ask students the generic question of what they wanted to be when they grew up. Immediately, I would respond I wanted to be a nurse. Now, I am an undergraduate student in college and still my answer has not changed. As I embark on this rigorous journey to become a nurse, I have started to consider how I will undertake the practice of nursing and what personal values I will incorporate into my professional values. When I am a practicing nurse, I plan to reflect on the role models that inspired me to become a nurse, incorporate my own personal strengths and talents, integrate Gonzaga’s mission into my own values, and contribute to the profession of nursing through social justice. As I have progressed …show more content…
Personal strengths I will contribute to nursing include strong communication, adaptability, and attentiveness to detail. Strong communication is vital between nurses, patients, and their other health care providers. Nurses disclose the information they learn about patients to other nurses and leading physicians, in order to diagnose and treat medical issues. If strong communication is not upheld this has negative side effects on someones healing. When I was in the hospital, I noticed a lack of communication between the nurses and my surgeon. The surgeon was not informed of the severity of my pain after surgery and this lead to a severe complication. I intend to utilize my skills of communication, so complications can be avoided. As a nurse being adaptable to any situation which may arise is crucial. Working in a hospital is unpredictable and nurses have a responsibility as health care leaders to know a course of action in any situation. I am adaptable because when faced with new and unexpected changes I am able to quickly react and think of solutions to any possible issues. Finally, I am also attentive to detail which is important when a nurse has to observe patients for abnormal health changes. Even a slight change can point to a larger health
Ever since I was a little girl, my motivation to pursue a career in the medical field was evident. While other children my age watched Cartoon Network, I found more value in shows like ‘Trauma: Life in the ER’ and ‘A Baby Story.’ It wasn’t until high school that I decided I would become a nurse, specifically. I cannot say that I had a revelation or a particular experience that swayed my decision. However, ever since I began pursuing the career of nursing, I discover each and every subsequent day that it is what I was put on this earth to do.
As I reflect on my extracurricular and academic activities, I see the essence of my future. I want to attend a great university (like the University of Texas); I want to work hard to become a nurse—a person who has devoted his or herself to caring for the well-being of others.
There are lots of careers available in the health care field, and the numbers will continue to grow as Baby Boomers age. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that registered nurses constitute the largest health care occupation. There 3 ways in which you can get a RN degree. Bachelor Degree : a 4 year degree program, Associate 's Degree, 1-2year degree program, Diploma : 3 or more years. All nursing education programs include classroom instruction and supervised clinical experience in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Registered nurses (RNs) are required to have a minimum of an associate 's degree, but bachelor 's degrees in nursing (BSN) are also
Becoming a nurse is probably my most noteworthy achievement. Neither of my parents or any family member have ever been to college. My family was never in the best life circumstances of me leaving for college. Yet, I was privileged enough to be able to put myself through school financially, by working various jobs. Being able to achieve my Bachelor's degree from an accredited school is a great achievement I am proud of. Becoming a nurse was the easy part though, the relationships that developed through my experiences have become my most meaningful and difficult achievements. Day in and day out I see people at their worst. People are stressed, hurt and afraid. I love being able to give them strength, hope and compassion. This relationship works both ways though. Patients', their families and their lives have taught me so much. The experiences nursing has given have become my most meaningful achievements. My goal to pursue advanced practice nursing will only further these achievements. I hope to encourage people more, teaching them how to take control of their lives in whatever way they see fit. I know I cannot teach passion, but I hope to inspire people by having them witness the passion that I have, passion that I have acquired by watching patients and their experiences. I fully anticipate to keep giving my gift to wherever the
...chability and my dedication to learn new knowledge to help me provide professional and exception care. My personal attributes include my passion towards helping people and my outgoing and positive attitude. I believe I am the perfect fit for enrolling in the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Western Ontario this fall because of my academic ability, my love for the nursing profession, and for my drive to wanting to improve the health and wellbeing of those in rural areas.
I have experienced many trying times in my life and I have grown through them. These experiences have given me the ability to adapt to different situations. I do not look at certain situations as problems; instead I see them as challenges that will help me grow as a person. This quality will be extremely useful in this position as a nurse, because I will try to overcome any obstacle thrown my way. I have been in the hospital with sick relatives and have dealt with mental illness in my family. Therefore, I feel I can relate or at the least sympathize with my patients in such a hard time. Also, I will not let my personal life interfere with my work. I can easily set aside my personal matters in order to do my
This experience is the very foundation in which my aspirations are rooted, fostering changes both professionally and academically. My objectives include caring for others in a setting that reaches out to communities, with a focus on the Hispanic community. Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, I will be able to holistically care for children, adults, and seniors; an important aspect of Hispanic culture. Education is crucial to personal and professional growth; with this in mind I look forward to instilling the love and compassion I have for nursing to future nursing
In some point in time, during a person’s life they run into the question what do I want to be? They must find a career that they will enjoy or the time that they have spent in class and studying will be in vain. While doing research on the Georgia Career Information Center and from the constant idea throughout my life I have decided that I want to become a registered nurse. The type of work environment, the salary that the job provides and flexibility with work hours are all things that have drawn me to this occupation. I want to specialize in Neonatal. I have always enjoyed caring for people and making a difference to someone. When you become a nurse these are just some of the things that you are able to accomplish. Becoming a registered nurse is not an easy thing to do with it being such a popular occupation at the moment, but I am always up for a challenge.
Many of the women in my family are nurses of some sort, so nursing is not some unfamiliar thing to me. Not only that, but I also get hurt often, considering the number of sports that I have played that put stress on my body. I have had to have countless MRIs, x-rays, and surgeries due to injuries or sickness. Throughout all these experiences, there were nurses that helped the procedure to go much more smoothly. I have been on the receiving side of a nurse’s care; I know how good it feels to have someone that put all their effort into caring for you and making sure that you are healthy. After experiencing this, I have decided that I want to be on the giving side of the care of a nurse. I know that already this project has impacted my life by helping me to learn how hard nurses have worked to get nursing to where it is now and how hard nurses have to work every day to fulfill the many duties required of them. While doing my final project, I believe that I will also be greatly affected because I will be able to actually serve other people; kind of like a
Coming into the nursing program, I was hopeful and looking forward to the new career. I have had issues, and it has taken me longer than expected to complete the program. I think because of this my strengths and areas of growth have changed. Per Strengths Quest my top strengths are ideation, connectedness, and individualization, strategic, and deliberative. I think the areas that will help me most as a nurse are ideation, individualization, and strategic. Ideation has helped me to learn ideas and concepts quickly. So, I can explain them to those around me including patients. Likewise, being able to focus on the individual means I can what people need by finding the best way to act that out. It particularly helps in the areas of educating, and advocating for the patient, as many procedures and protocols will be the same. Also, being strategic will help me get things done efficiently. As I get more experience as a nurse I can use this to consider new ways to improve the working environment for those around me as well.
In my post secondary studies, many people are interested in what I want to do after I graduate and where I want to go in life. It is far rarer to have people ask the question of why. Why do I want to pursue a career in the medical field? Why do I want to spend my life helping people? Why do I want to attend the nursing program at Clarkson? My answer to the big question of why is not a simple one-faceted answer. I want to be a nurse for a myriad of reasons. In this reflection, I will touch on my long-lasting love for a career in medicine, my experience in school that solidified my desire to become a nurse, and the path that led me to apply to Clarkson College.
Nursing: To me, being a nurse is far more than just a job or even a career. In my future, I plan to become a nurse and to even think about it is immeasurable to me. I can’t wait to be looked up too and to even be called a “life saver”, even though I may not save everyone, just the effort I will give will mean the world to me and hopefully the families. I love helping others in need or just in general, everyone goes through a tough time and needs someone to run too.
Many people say that college is the greatest and worst time of your life. Yes, you experience the great times such as partying, and meeting new people. But let’s not forget about the worst times like crying your eyes out because you are afraid if your next test and even having six assignments all due at midnight. Although I look to have moments such as these, I also have to remember the real reason why I decided to attend college. That which is to pursue my dreams of becoming a nurse. Throughout these four years, maybe even more, I plan to do just that and along the way my goal is to also gain more skills and enhance my knowledge about being a nurse.

I have always wanted to become a nurse since I was a little girl, seeing both of my grandmothers working in a hospitals and always helping everyone in need.
