Through the material taught in creation studies, I have expanded my biblical worldview and strengthened my trust in the redeeming power of God as the perfect creator. As I conducted my interviews, I realized many people are uninformed on the biblical creation accounts and there do not understand they are compromising with evolution. There were four main question that this course answered –How long were the days in Genesis 1? How old is the earth and life? Does man and apes share a common ancestor? Were Adam and Eve real people? The length of the days in Genesis is highly debated because creationist and evolution interrupt the word “day” differently in the biblical passage. The Bible says, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. …show more content…
The first lady I interviewed say the earth is 6,000 years old because the genealogies given in the Bible and the time frame since the global flood. The second lady was unsure because she has never researched the age of the earth and never considered it necessary to think about age of the earth. The man I interviewed was my 9th grade science teacher and he said that the earth is about 10,000 years old because of genealogies written in the Bible. Stars are millions of light year away and thus it would take millions of years for the light to reach earth. Thus, evolutionist believe that the earth is millions of years old because light is reaching earth. However, this theory falls through when we realize that the speed of light may not be constant so we must consider time dilation to be a factor and light speed up the closer to gravity it becomes. Creationist also believes that the decay rate of rocks have increased over time so radiometric dating of fossil is not accurate. Based on radiometric dating, Carbon 14 is 300 million years old and should be extinct, but carbon 14 is found in diamonds. The evidence to support an old earth creation is inconsistent. I would tell the lady that was unsure the age of the earth that scripture should inform our interpretation of scientific evidence not the other way around. Christians must stand firm on the authority of the Bible or scripture will fall through. Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day meaning the earth was created 144 hours before God created Adam and Eve. This proves the young earth interpretation of creation and the age of the earth is about 6,000 years old tracing all the way back to Adam and
Humans have asked questions about their origin and their purpose on earth for eons. The Bible tells humans that God created them and explains their purpose. However, since the Renaissance, humanism answers questions about origins by naturalistic means and science has been redefined in the process. Most institutions of higher education and many individuals have adopted the naturalistic theory of evolution to explain human origin without considering its effects on faith. In contrast to prevailing thought at Goshen College, a literal six-day creation is foundational to the Gospel message. Combining evolution and Christianity makes one’s faith less logical and opens one’s science to new quandaries.
There is much debate over how old the earth truly is. If the creation story is taken literally, the earth could be as young as twenty-five thousand years old. If creation is taken metaphorically, the earth could be four to fifteen billion years old. However, it is not essential which theory one believes, what matters is that God created all of it. This informs Christians that God created the universe; this is the most basic affirmation of Genesis. There is no room given for any other creative power. Through God’s spoken word, the universe was created. Our Christian worldview emphasizes that God is in full control and the origin story clearly shows this. God as creator shows that he has sovereign control. Whether aspects of evolution exist or not, we accept that God is in full control because of what is included in Genesis 1. The objective of Genesis 1 and the story of the origin of the universe is not meant to satisfy our curiosity about science, it is meant to reveal to us the true nature of God. Science attempts to inform the secular worldview while Scripture is able to inform the Christian
Due to the compromised worldview, the interpretation of Genesis 1 can greatly vary among Christians. Some people literally interpret Genesis 1, while other people have slightly different opinion toward it. First interviewee was a Japanese seminary student who is in the same organization with me. When I asked her about the length of a day in Genesis 1, she said that it is 6 days because she literally believes Genesis 1. Also, she thinks that the Earth should be about 6000 years according to her prior knowledge. Then she said that there is no common ancestor because she believes that God created apes and human separately. Consequently, she believes that Adam and Eve were real people. Second interviewee was my dad who is a pastor with a strong belief and firm criteria towards every thing related to Bible. My father’s answer was basically same. He believes that Adam and Eve actually existed, and man and apes are separate beings according to the Bible. However, He showed a slightly different perspective toward the age of Earth. He doubted the young earth theory because Moses’ reference of Genesis 1 should be an indir...
Worldview is how you view certain views from a certain perspective, such as a Christian worldview would be how you view certain views from a Christian perspective. Everything in life is affected by worldview and everyone has one. As Christians, our worldview is using the Bible for our starting on our views. An example of a worldview is, according to the article “What is a Christian Worldview?”, “Christianity as taught in the Bible is itself a worldview.” 77 words.
The Christian worldview is centered on the Gospel and places their beliefs in the essential teachings of the Trinity, the deity of Jesus Christ, and Jesus’ resurrection from the dead (DiVincenzo, 2015). This paper will explain who God is and what he created, what our purpose and nature is as humans, who Jesus was and what he did while on earth, how God plans to bring his people back into the right relationship with himself, and as a Christian how one is to live their life with an analysis of the Christian worldview.
Although a worldview ensues what a person believes about the great questions of life, a biblical worldview stands far more intense since it’s filtered through the bible and the outlook stays Christ focused. The book of Romans in the Bible provides an example of what a biblical worldview should be like. As a result of Paul’s truths in Romans 1-8, believers have been able to grasp an understanding of the teachings that express the idea of a biblical worldview that God intended us to perceive.
For every individual there exists a unique formation of assumptions as to how the universe functions in relation to one’s self, known as a worldview. Redfield defines worldview as “the way we see ourselves in relation to all else.” and “[the] organization of ideas that answers to a man with the questions: ‘Where am I? Among what do I move? What are my relations to these things?” I approve of Redfield’s definition only adding an emphasis that one’s worldview is nurtured by the culture and society to which one belongs. Hesselgrave says that “people are born and reared ‘into’ culture.” and that “cultural reality becomes their reality over a period of time.” As one spends time among a culture, the culture slowly persuades an individual to the truth
In 1859, Charles Darwin published his groundbreaking Origin of Species, which would introduce the seminal theory of evolution to the scientific community. Over 150 years later, the majority of scientists have come to a consensus in agreement with this theory, citing evidence in newer scientific research. In an average high school biology classroom, one may imagine an instructor that has devoted much of his life to science and a predominantly Christian class of about twenty-five students. On the topic of evolution, one of the students might ask, “Why would God have taken the long route by creating us through billion years of evolution?” while another student may claim “The Book of Genesis clearly says that the earth along with all living creatures was created in just six days, and Biblical dating has proven that the earth is only 6000 years old.” Finally a third student interjects with the remark “maybe the Bible really is just a book, and besides, science has basically already proven that evolution happened, and is continuing to happen as we speak.”
Everyone has a worldview and a way they see life. Christian teachers should be willing to use their own biblical worldview to help the students in class develop a strong set of beliefs by integrating biblical truths into their lessons daily and encouraging their students to apply what they learn in class to not only their biblical worldview, but to their life.
All people have a worldview that is based on personal beliefs forming their reality and what they feel is meaningful in life. I am a Christian of faith that has a biblical worldview, which is based on the word of God. The Book of Romans 1-8 provides the word of God and answers for how Christians can live a righteous life for our savior Jesus Christ.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth ….” (King James Version, Genesis 1:1). The Bible clearly identifies who created the world and how it was formed. No one knows when the earth was created or what it could have looked like. There are many ideas of what it was like based on what is written in the Bible. Christians believe the Bible, the story of creation, and that God created the world in seven literal days. However, evolutionists continue to believe that there is evidence that the universe and the earth took billions of years to form. They also believe that life on Earth has come about by the process of evolution, as proposed by Charles Darwin. Scientists are studying different processes and trying to reconstruct the past, but no one can scientifically prove or agree on any one view of history: creation or evolution, old earth or young earth, uniformity, or Noah’s flood. The best one can do is to identify one’s view of history, interpret the evidence within that, and see which view gives the best explanation. The controversy about the age of the earth continues today because of some important arguments, including the importance of how the earth was biblically created in a twenty-four hour period, an evaluation of the evolution timeline claiming an old earth, and a creationists
There are different degrees of creationism, while ranging from believing only in what is explictly stated in the Bible; to believing an equal balance between the Bible and science. One type of creationism is Young Earth Creationism, which is most often entitled as "creationism" by scientists, education and the press (Moreland 41). This belief teaches that the earth is young, a few thousand years old, and that science is wrong. By saying that the earth is young, the timeline of the Bible matches Young Earth Creationists follow on earth's creation (Moreland 49). Other views include a mix of science and religion, which include teaching that the earth could be as old as some scientists say it is.
The age of the planet earth is sometimes a controversial topic, most believers, usually Christians, believe that due to what the bible has provided, the earth is somewhere near 6,000-12,000 years old. That’s only how far back the bible goes as for stories. An argument about it is that the bible only implies that humans have been around for 6,000+ years and not necessarily the earth itself, but with the beliefs of Adam and Eve, a lot of Christians think that. The common belief about the first humans was that God created them and put them on earth the last day he created the universe. The duration of the day to God, or what is in the bible may be drastically different than the 24hours we believe and live through today, so the opinion is not the most popular.
Different personality, believes, identity and behaviour makes a person unique. Identity is considered as one's self representation in the world. Who I am really makes up my identity. Personal traits makes me appear towards the world. My worldview is incorporated of different concepts and suppositions.
Amid these previous couple of weeks, I have arrived at numerous decisions about my convictions on creation and development. Before creation studies class, I never took the activity to completely comprehend what I accepted and why I accepted it. I knew the Bible was the wellspring of my convictions and that Genesis was really clear that God had made the sky and the earth. Then again, I trusted that there was no confirmation or physical verification to bolster the Bible. This class has not just permitted me to develop further as a Christian, but likewise has developed in my insight into life and science. I now have the capacity to comprehend my contention and back it up. I have numerous individuals throughout my life who address the full power
