Family is one of the most important things that we as humans get to enjoy in this life. Throughout our lives, our families grow and change. More often than not we have a clear vision of the changes that we hope to see within our family. These visions expand beyond our families as well. They reach our friends, local communities, greater communities, and the countries we call home. We have goals and dreams for how we want the world around us to be shaped. These dreams are fueled by an ambition to make the world a better place and to further experience the satisfaction life has to offer us. I was born and raised in America and I consider it to be my home. I am proud to have grown up in the beautiful land hat has proved me and so many others with opportunities that did not exist anywhere a century ago. My country is not perfect by any means, but we strive to make it better with each passing day and I dream that one day America will meet its full potential. To meet this potential it must truly embody the principles that it was built upon. All citizens must be offered the same freedoms and opportunities. All people must be treated fairly and with dignity by the federal government. And finally, all people must be respected by the people of the United States regardless of their identities. This dream can and will be realized, but it will be an uphill battle fought against the fear inside of each person that is holding them back. We fought to end slavery, we fought to end segregation, we fought for equal marriage. Each one of these battles were eventually won. Each one of these victories put us one step closer to fulfilling this dream that I share with countless other people. We have not ended racism, we still struggle to accept people for their gender identities, and we are still fighting the fight for women’s rights that has existed since the founding of our country. But we are getting there. We will get there one day. As American citizens, we have a duty to help this great nation toward these goals. When you make these changes in your personal lives and homes, you are making a change, however small, in the attitude of this country. You are helping us to realize this
