Leadership to me means helping and motivating others to help them excel in an activity. I would like to become a leader because my Muskoka experience in grade 9 was a great way to make me feel part of the school community. Muskoka helped me meet new people and create many strong and long-lasting friendships. I found that this experience made going to high school a lot easier and a lot less stressful. I feel as a Muskoka leader I would be able to pass on the same experience I had with the new students. I believe the hardest part of being a leader is resolving and preventing conflicts within the group. Based on past experience this is definitely the most challenging part because it's hard to resolve the conflict while still keeping both parties
happy. I believe the most rewarding part of being a leader is being able to assist others in creating a memorable and favorable experience. As I previously said, my Muskoka experience is something that I treasure very much and will remember it as a highlight of my high school career. As I leader I want to make sure the new students feel as welcome to St. Augustine as my leaders made me feel. At school, I've been involved in various sports teams including basketball, softball, and golf. In these sports, I motivate teammates and encourage them to always do their best by cheering them on. I have also taken leadership roles in many other classes whether a presentation or group assignment. In my community I participate in many leadership activities such as scorekeeping, teaching children basketball, volunteering at my church, and leading groups at summer camp. As a leader, I would go about preventing conflicts by talking to the students involved individually and help work out the issue to prevent further arguments. I would also make sure the students are aware and comfortable speaking to me if there's a disagreement before it escalates into a major conflict. I would motivate the students by cheering them on and making sure they feel included with the group at all times, to make them feel comfortable and participate in the activity. I would also talk to them to see why it is they don't want to participate and help resolve the issue to hopefully change their mind.
Denisco & Barker, (2016) discusses the foundation of leadership and the four conceptual pillars that comprise it. Understanding the leadership is a responsibility of an APN, the following final question was posed to Ms. Gordner. “Of the four pillars of leadership; professionalism, inspirational motivation, interpersonal relationships, and business skills, do you feel that one is more important than another, and why?” She responded,
Encarta Dictionary within Microsoft Word defines leadership as,” the ability to guide, direct, or influence people.” Expanding upon that definition, my personal definition is influencing people to follow to achieve a goal, regardless of how unpleasant. Leadership is not something that happens overnight, it needs to be cultivated over time. During that process, it is necessary to identify delinquencies and make adjustments. Reviewing the feedback provided by my LPI/360 assessment, the three areas identified I need to improve on are, praising people for a job well done, actively listening to diverse points of view, and becoming more visible within the workplace.
Leadership is an art that evolves over time. My experience has allowed me to obtain the key principles that make me a leader. Recently, I became President of Denver South High School Key Club. A self-funded group, that provide student with leadership and public service opportunities. It provides student with a lifetime experience and allows their leadership skills to grow. As the President, I coordinate and organize events that allow members to serve there community. With a very strong team, we are able to accomplish our duties as leaders.
Being a leader is no simple task. During my Eagle Scout project, I lead a range of people, from adults to youth. It was my job to make sure everyone was working and, that everyone was capable of doing their task. I had many issues doing this throughout my project because I am only one person and I can’t be everywhere at once. Thusly made being a leader a drudgery. But I had an incredible set of adults guiding me along the way, who taught me that being a leader was not doing everything myself, being a leader
Leadership can be difficult to define and sometimes more difficult to attain. There are are a multitude of different leadership styles and each can work effectively in a given environment. Some styles that work in some environments fail in others. As far as the leadership of Alaskan Airlines, they seem to be doing something right. The chairman and chief executive officer of Alaska Air Group and its two subsidiaries (Alaska Airlines and Horizon) is Brad Tilden. Under Tilden’s leadership, Alaska and Horizon are focused on running a safe and reliable operation, on providing a hassle-free travel experience, on offering low fares, and on steadily growing their combined route network. Alaska has earned many accolades, including ranking highest
To be a leader, you have to be authoritative, but not mean, and you have to keep a cool head, even in the hardest situations. You also have to be understanding, and
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
I believe that leadership is not something that you are born with, but that has to be learned over time. You learn to become a leader from watching other leaders, and also from personal experience. People should become leaders; so that they can help others do their best. They should not become leaders for the title and power that may come with leadership. Being a leader does not mean you get to boss people around by telling them what to do. The purpose of a leader is to guide others by encouraging, showing them the way, and by challenging them to do the best that they can do. I learned leadership through personal experience. In high school I played sports and had many class projects to do. My senior year was the first time my school had a soccer program, and I along with two other girls was captains. As we all know, when a group of girls come together, the drama comes too. All three of the captains had to work together and show the girls that if we wanted this program to be a success and grow, they had to work together as well. It was hard at first, but when we encouraged everyone, it worked out better than expected in the end. Also, in my business class, we had a lot of projects that were mostly group projects. During the end of the year, we had a project where we had to make up a new product. My partner and I were both seniors and it was a stressful time with finals, SAT scores, graduation, and trying to become honor graduates. We were tired and just did not want to do another project, but our teacher, Mr. Brace, did not give up on us. He showed us what to do, and encouraged us constantly every day. He would tell us many positive things and would check up on us. He was a great teacher and a great leader. Leadership may be one wo...
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
“Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and actions,” quoted by Harold S. Geneen. There are many different types of leadership styles that people around the world live by. I believe that people’s self centeredness is reflected through their leadership style. One of the main differences in the leadership styles between Smith and Bradford was the way that the viewed themselves.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
Leadership is something that is heavily prevalent in the workforce and in the world today. Being a leader, in my opinion, takes someone (or a group of people) who is willing and able to lead a few or many people. Not every leader though is successful or leads in a positive way. There definitely exists both good and bad leadership. Many leaders fail while many achieve extraordinary milestones. But everyone, not just leaders, have their pitfalls and rough patches in life. I know that I myself have some weaknesses as a leader, and that is what I want to take some time to reflect on.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
I believe true leadership is a quality many aspire to have, and only a few truly obtain, because in order to become a leader you must first learn to follow.
