Hello! I’m Amy Ahlers, and I wanted to start off by thanking you for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to this time to get to know each other, as well as learning about the expectations you have for the candidate who will be filling this position. From my understanding, the previous classroom teacher had strong music skills that positively transformed the learning environment. There are several reasons in which I feel qualified to step into this position.
To begin, music has played a significant role in my life. Over the years, I’ve been involved in music, both instrumentally and vocally, as I have learned to play a variety of instruments and been involved in a number of different singing groups. This all started when I was fairly young. In elementary school, I began taking piano lessons, which resulted in performances during church services and at recitals. Also, throughout middle and high school, I learned to play the clarinet and participated in both marching and concert band activities. In addition, I was actively involved in choir,

Personally, I am capable of reading music and understand the various components of it. On top of that, I realize that music has the potential to develop specific life skills such as responsibility, perseverance, patience, and discipline. I am aware that there are many things in music that I may not be familiar with or may have forgotten over the years, but I am more than willing to learn and try new things with my students. Because of my musical background and my understanding of its importance, I will support the music program and integrate music in my classroom practices when possible. Music truly helped shape me into the person I am today. I’m so grateful for the exposure to music I received, and I want to make sure my future students are given similar
When asked to choose skills, I selected performing arts, problem solving, and speaking, all of which I would use in a career as a music educator. I also selected creativity, independence and prestige as the most important values to me. Again, these values are all applicable in a career in music education.
Once this is accomplished, students gain personal pride in achieving this new skill. Music programs offer lots of chances for students to develop new talents, whether that is playing an instrument or singing a song. “Music programs in public schools help to foster a student’s sense of pride and self-confidence” (Hoffman 1), and with this newfound pride, students will develop more experience in other areas, like working with others and communicating with different people. Music plays an active role in student’s lives, and as core subject grades begin to rise, “music education remains a key component in a student’s academic success and in positive social and emotional growth” (Hoffman 1). Music forms dignity in a students abilities, offering to give the students a chance to develop their communication and social skills in a safe environment, and give themselves positive feelings about their accomplishments. Without music programs in schools, students will have less pride in their abilities and will not let them gain that safe environment to achieve these experiences with
I'm tough on myself, much like most people my age. So I feel like I haven't accomplished a lot, but I have. This essay prompt really made me think and a million achievements rushed into my head. My entire high school career has been focused around band. I've made many achievements throughout my high school band experience. I've gotten nothing but gold medals at solo and ensemble competitions and always had a perfect grade in the class. Most of all, I've been building my leadership position, and now I'm a field commander. It was a tough road, but I've made it very, very far. Band is an experience that has gifted me various skills and unforgettable memories.
Essentially I believe that in today's society music literacy is a necessary skill for us all to have to successfully encounter and interact with the world around us. Reasons for teaching music as a school subject are consistent with the reasons that we educate ourselves about anything else. Furthermore, we have shown a commitment in the past to creating a musically literate society, and events in today's world only strengthen the need to continue that commitment.
After graduating from high school, I entered Soochow University, whose music department is among the best in Taiwan. During these four years, I had numerous opportunities to perform on stage. Realizing early on that performance is the lifeblood of musicians, I joined as many orchestras, wood bands, and brass quintets as possible to acquire performance experience. Having numerous performing chances, and enjoying each of them, inspired me to become a professional musician in the future. Besides taking part in performing activities, I also used my experiences and knowledge to teach students. Believing that teaching others how to appreciate the beauty of life is fulfilling, I teach both to give knowledge and to enhance my own artistic ability. Because I so enjoyed my conversations with students, I remain committed to teaching and trying to convince others of the limitless joys of music.
The begging of middle school our choir consisted of Sopranos, Altos. This was mainly due to the fact that we didn’t hit puberty yet. That year I found my niche. This was exciting for me because I wasn’t like my brothers who are athletic. My 7th and 8th grade year were the years I made a difference. To add on to the Sopranos and Altos the guys were now baritones and that was a big deal. During my 7th grade year we sang Phantom of The Opera. My friend Jon and I sang a duet and received a standing ovation. The following year was just as good due to the fact we sang Broadway medley. I sang Part in the South Pacific song aint nothing like a dame. Later in that piece I had a whistling solo for the king and I. this was so cool to do because people thought I was going to sing and I shocked the by whistling. High school was a big change because we now had 4 parts: Soprano, Alto, Bass, and Tenor. Our choir consisted of 50-60 students and 40 of them were girls. I was very intimidated by this but didn’t let this stop me. I sang tenor and our section was about five people but we were the strongest section. We hosted State Large group which is where judges rate your choir you can receive division 1, 2,3,4,5. One would be the best that you could receive. We also had honor choirs you could go to. I went to one in Waverly, Iowa at Wartburg College called the Meistersingers Honor choir. While I was there I sang tenor 2. This Honor choir was about 600 high school students plus the Wartburg choir. This particular honor choir was special because we sang with Simone Estes, the famous opera

I’ve always loved music and singing, even as a kid. It has always been my passion. Performing on stage is what actually broke me out of my shell. Going into highschool I was very awkward and shy, but music helped me conquer my social awkwardness. Music has helped me give back to my community in ways I never thought of, seeing the smiles on people’s faces when I sing is one of the greatest feelings ever and I cherish it, and the applause when I’m done makes me feel all warm inside. Performing and helping others perform is something I love to do and it helped me find my place in the world. Learning a new song is fantastic experience as well.
Music has always been an important part of my life. Upon entering the fifth grade, my parents bought me a flute, at my insistence. After moderate success playing the flute, I saw greener grass on the other side of the musical fence. Singing just had to be easier than making music with a long metal pipe. My perception and reality did not exactly match. Singing has its own subtleties and complexities which are not readily apparent to the casual observer. Abandoning the flute for singing, I began taking voice lessons in the tenth grade. My voice teacher was very experienced and encouraged me to pursue my interest in music beyond high school. After much deliberation, I decided to major in voice during college. This path would be fraught with unforeseen difficulties and exciting challenges.
As a musician you are exposed to many different types of terminology, ideas, debates and concepts most people are not. There are Interest and topics that we find appealing like the different language that we use to communicate with each other, are very different from someone that is heavily invested in other activities likes sports or even knitting . With these differences we have formed our own social group. The definition of an music educator is a field that touches on all domains of learning, including the psychomotor domain, the cognitive domain, and, in particular and significant ways, the affective domain, including music appreciation and sensitivity In our community we strive to achieve the goals set in this definition and also to move forward in our advancement of music in the world
In order to help spark that passion inside of others I must accomplish my first goal of obtaining my bachelor 's degree in music education and gaining my teaching endorsement for K-12. I intend on accomplishing this goal by attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha starting the fall semester of 2016. After attending UNO for 4 to 5 years I will begin my search for a high school instrumental music employment opportunity. Once I am employed I will be able to begin fueling the fire of passion in some students.
Music has always been an important part of my life. During high school I have developed areas of service and leadership through interests in children and gardening, which will continue to be major parts of my life.
It was finally the end of my junior marching season. The time had come for the now former drum major to help aid in the decision of who would be his successor. Ever since I joined my high school’s marching band in my freshman year, I took a keen interest in the position of the drum major. The grace with which the drum major used to keep the band together had amazed me and in that moment, I knew that I wanted to exude that same grace. After the date for the interviews were announced, I would come up with a couple questions that I thought might be asked of me and I practiced my answers, making sure that they were “perfect” or at the very least expressed my interest in the position.
Music is very interesting and entertaining to do. But still, other subjects in school in my opinion, are more important in life. From my personal experience, from all the things I’ve learned at school, I think that the most important things I needed outside of school is english and math, english because everytime we communicate in the language, we are using it, and math, for everyday situations. Music, I just play it as a hobby, other than that, I don’t really use what I’ve learned in music class outside of
Even when children learn music they able to listen, sing, dance, create movement. Listening to music draw out emotions, and playing music can be just like communicating emotions. Some people find this a very powerful experience. “ Music enriches the lives of students and should be considered a necessary part of education.”
