Hello! I’m Amy Ahlers, and I wanted to start off by thanking you for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to this time to get to know each other, as well as learning about the expectations you have for the candidate who will be filling this position. From my understanding, the previous classroom teacher had strong music skills that positively transformed the learning environment. There are several reasons in which I feel qualified to step into this position.
To begin, music has played a significant role in my life. Over the years, I’ve been involved in music, both instrumentally and vocally, as I have learned to play a variety of instruments and been involved in a number of different singing groups. This all started when I was fairly young. In elementary school, I began taking piano lessons, which resulted in performances during church services and at recitals. Also, throughout middle and high school, I learned to play the clarinet and participated in both marching and concert band activities. Personally, I am capable of reading music and understand the various components of it. On top of that, I realize that music has the potential to develop specific life skills such as responsibility, perseverance, patience, and discipline. I am aware that there are many things in music that I may not be familiar with or may have forgotten over the years, but I am more than willing to learn and try new things with my students. Because of my musical background and my understanding of its importance, I will support the music program and integrate music in my classroom practices when possible. Music truly helped shape me into the person I am today. I’m so grateful for the exposure to music I received, and I want to make sure my future students are given similar
