What is music? The definition of music is movement of sound through a period of time. It may not seem like it when someone is listening to their favorite song, but music is measured in time by beats per minute. Music to me is an escape from my fast moving life style. Music allows me to take the time to relax and jam out to my favorite songs. The wonderful thing about music is that it has many different characteristics and it mainly depends on the person and their personal preference. Music is put together in so many different ways whether it is a studio, or just in a garage with some friends. Music was first recorded in the early 1800’s by a device called a phonograph. What is a phonograph?, a phonograph is an instrument used to capture sound waves, unfortunately it would only record for less than a minute. I find it fascinating that we went from the phonograph to recording studios today. …show more content…

Just within those three types of music there is a wide variety. For example, take old rapper like Tupac many people still listen to him, but they is a noticeable difference between Tupac and a new rapper like two Chainz. Tupac is more laid back and slow where the new rappers are more upbeat and fast. The same way with rock and country in my opinion, and I believe it is because how civilization is growing in such a steady pace. Having music means a lot to me because it gives me a break in life. It allows me to relate to the lyrics with my life and what has happened to me the nineteen years I’ve been on this planet. I also believe that is affect people the same way it does me but in their own way. It’s like music therapy is used in school and outside of school. “Music therapy is used to improve performance and attend to issues in personal life.”(Berman , pg1).
