I am center stage, microphone in one hand, violin in the other. A dozen coworkers are standing behind me, each with their own designated instrument playing the song’s melody and harmonizing with the words about to come out of my mouth. We all get along and work well with each other offstage as we do onstage. I finish singing my song and return to the lineup, ready for the next. I switch instruments when needed. The room is filled with bright lights and bright colors: red, green and yellow. The aroma of fresh Mexican food makes my stomach sing along as well. I worry about few things. Maybe a string goes out of tune or my throat becomes a little dry. Stage fright is never one of these things. I am in my happy place. This is what my weekends already …show more content…

I play the violin and the guitarron (Mexican acoustic bass guitar). I sing in Spanish. I have a large repertoire of mariachi songs. I am an artist, a musician and a performer. Sticking with the theme of music, I possess many other skills that are not showcased when onstage. I am a classical violinist and musician. I have a broad knowledge of music theory: I know everything from musical notation to the structure of an orchestra. I can read in both treble and bass clef and can name the relative minor to every major key signature. In addition to this, my non-musical skills and interests include writing, designing (websites and such) and what I can only describe as “putting things together”. I am fortunate that in my life right now, I spend my time outside of school surrounded by positive people whom I view as family. I exercise my musical abilities in teaching younger students and in performing in mariachi bands. I plan to always share my musicality and culture with my community, whether it be through performing, teaching, creating arts programs or putting on music and art events. I still can not say for certain what exactly my future looks like. I do not know what my official job title will be, who my employers will be, whether or not I will even expand the number of musical genres that interest me. What I do know for certain: Music performance excites me. Performing and teaching music gives me a sense of importance. I am meant to use music as a way to figure out what my life looks like. Music has brought me to the people I wish to surround myself with and the environment I hope to always be a part
