I am center stage, microphone in one hand, violin in the other. A dozen coworkers are standing behind me, each with their own designated instrument playing the song’s melody and harmonizing with the words about to come out of my mouth. We all get along and work well with each other offstage as we do onstage. I finish singing my song and return to the lineup, ready for the next. I switch instruments when needed. The room is filled with bright lights and bright colors: red, green and yellow. The aroma of fresh Mexican food makes my stomach sing along as well. I worry about few things. Maybe a string goes out of tune or my throat becomes a little dry. Stage fright is never one of these things. I am in my happy place. This is what my weekends already …show more content…
I play the violin and the guitarron (Mexican acoustic bass guitar). I sing in Spanish. I have a large repertoire of mariachi songs. I am an artist, a musician and a performer. Sticking with the theme of music, I possess many other skills that are not showcased when onstage. I am a classical violinist and musician. I have a broad knowledge of music theory: I know everything from musical notation to the structure of an orchestra. I can read in both treble and bass clef and can name the relative minor to every major key signature. In addition to this, my non-musical skills and interests include writing, designing (websites and such) and what I can only describe as “putting things together”. I strive to be a creator, not necessarily of products or new technology, but a creator of music, art programs and of relationships between people and …show more content…
I am fortunate that in my life right now, I spend my time outside of school surrounded by positive people whom I view as family. I exercise my musical abilities in teaching younger students and in performing in mariachi bands. I plan to always share my musicality and culture with my community, whether it be through performing, teaching, creating arts programs or putting on music and art events. I still can not say for certain what exactly my future looks like. I do not know what my official job title will be, who my employers will be, whether or not I will even expand the number of musical genres that interest me. What I do know for certain: Music performance excites me. Performing and teaching music gives me a sense of importance. I am meant to use music as a way to figure out what my life looks like. Music has brought me to the people I wish to surround myself with and the environment I hope to always be a part
Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Allows me to express myself through sounds and through instruments. It is truly a talent and a hobby that I hope to continue through college and through life because of the joy it brought me and creative outlet it was throughout my
Although I am a fairly well-rounded student outside of school, I focus on the passions I am adept at: art and music. Creativity and thinking outside the box are skills that I have possessed and have developed over the years. It gives me great joy when I use my artistic and musical talents for the benefit of others, such as playing the piano and violin at a dinner honoring senior citizens or drawing pictures for young children at a Bible camp. Their smiles in appreciation of my service are priceless. My drive for excellence in my passions show that I give one hundred percent in all that I
After seeing the impact music can have on one person, I was enraptured with the magic of music. It hit me like a brick, creating a sense of calm once I determined what I wanted and what I could give to people. I continued to make the most out of my internship, and dug into the activities, helping plan, lead and create these engaging ideas while maintaining a psychological approach. I have also frequently administered private bassoon lessons to younger students. The ability for people to soak up knowledge like a sponge never ceases to amaze me, and teaching others has, in turn, made me a better student. The advantages to teaching frequently inspire me to better myself. Music has played a large role in my life, and performing music grants me the freedom to express and interpret the nuances of the simple black notes on the page to create a masterpiece. I am discovering myself daily, and over time, I have evolved into who I am today. My goals surround music, helping others, and bettering myself and the world around me, and the ample opportunities enable the efforts towards these
In a survey study most people stated that their investment in music derives from its ability to convey emotions(Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) Studies have implied that music can elicit basic emotions such as happiness (Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) Music with a fast tempo and major mode are considered and reacted to as happy music, while music with slow tempo and minor mode are deemed sad(Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) This effect was shown through fMRI imaging while listening to different genres of music and participant questionnaires (Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) A study conducted by Greasly and Lamont was able to show that there are two broad types of listeners; less engaged and more engaged(Greasley and Lamont 2006.) Less engaged listeners we categorized by listening to music only a few hours a week to pass time, and were less likely to make the music selection themselves (Greasley and Lamont 2006.) More engaged listeners reported listening to music up to 40 hours a week and were more likely to choose the music selection for themselves (Greasley and Lamont 2006.) The main difference found between the two types of listeners was the ability for the music to impact the listeners mood(Greasley and Lamont 2006.)
The manifestation of roots music from African immigrants developed into American musical genres such as spirituals, blues, and gospel music. As the centuries progressed, spirituals and work songs extended to comprise distinctive song genres, particularly the blues of southern blacks. Work songs and spirituals from African Americans are regarded as a window into their cultural life, their songs interconnect the optimisms, burdens, and beliefs of slavery. Music was imbedded into life, songs were hummed on front porches, chanted in churches, and caroled in the fields. Melodies were passed down from parent to child and through connotations they mirrored the changing times.
Music plays a critical role in the narrative films as it is important technique that filmmakers use to support the narrative and influence the way that the viewer interacts, responds and interprets the events as they unfold. The godfather, which is one of all time Hollywood movies, represents a good use of music that succeeded in supporting the dramatic events that take place in the movie. Moreover, both diegetic and non-diegetic music in the godfather movie are used to achieve the overall purpose by using the different principles and functions of film music that range from setting the mood of the viewer to providing continuity within the movie. In this essay, we will take part of the godfather movie in which we can observe and analyse the role of the music in the film (00:30:52- 00:35:52)
Money, fame, and promiscuity are the three main components of the American Dream, and what better way to get to that level than through music? The truth is, almost any other profession has a higher statistical chance of achieving this goal. Musicianship is a nearly impossible career plan to survive with. An artist will spend incalculable hours learning and mastering their craft, only to be oppressed by the community. No matter how much time or money a musician spends on his/her creations, the world will typically find a way to avert their success.
Music has been ingrained in the American heart for generations. From African American slaves singing songs to boost the overall happiness of the people they worked with (Songs in Slave Society, 2009) to the Beatles performance on The Ed Sullivan Show that was seen by 73 million people, or 40 percent of the U.S. population. (Lule, 2012) With the explosion in the popularity of owning a home radio, it has further shaped American culture and its values. In 1922 there were 60,000 households in the United States with radios; by 1929 the number had topped 10 million. (David Marc, 2000) When radio stations started, creating programming, it started breaking down racial bonds, not immediately there were still white only radio stations, yet Black radio became more common on the AM dial. (Lule, 2012) With varying musical styles that could be picked up on any radio by any race, enabling people to gain insight into different cultures, bringing with it, acceptance of those differences. Early Black disc jockeys even began improvising rhymes over the music, pioneering techniques that later became rap and hip-hop. This new personality-driven style helped bring early rock and roll to new audiences. (Lule, 2012) Between the years 1960 and 1966, the number of households capable of receiving FM transmissions grew from about 6.5 million to some 40 million. (Lule, 2012) During the sixties music was a platform for artists to share their feelings on many different social issues, including civil rights and race relations; drugs, affluence, and consumerism; the Cold War; Vietnam and the peace movement; the sexual revolution; women’s liberation; and ecological and environmental concerns. (Ward, 2002)
You have common titles such as dentist, teacher, physical therapist, doctor, or accountant but then there's music therapy, a not so common job. If i were to tell you i wanna be a musician you'd understand what i wanna do. If i were to tell you i wanna be a therapist you would also understand what i wanna do. However when I say I want to become a music therapist not many people can understand what it is and why I wanna do it. To put it simply I love music and love helping people in a way not many people can. While doctors have medicine and psycho therapist have their words, music therapist have music. Something not many people are born to do while others just have the music in them. It is something Ive researched for a year or so and fell completely in love
Music has always been an important part of my life. During high school I have developed areas of service and leadership through interests in children and gardening, which will continue to be major parts of my life.
At the age of ten, my parents decided that I should learn how to play an instrument. In addition, they also chose which instrument I should learn, the guitar. I had no interest in learning the guitar, because all I wanted to spend my leisure time on was improvising my soccer skills. However, my parents believed soccer was a waste of my precious time, time which I should be using to focus on school and expanding my brain by taking on a difficult task, such as learning to play music. This was contrary to what I believed, but I had to do it or else my parents would be displeased. Therefore, the following week, I began taking guitar lessons.
I feel proud to have grown up in a musical environment, as my grandfather was a professional musician who played in several professional symphony orchestras, my mother learned violin from my grandfather, then my older brother from her and then I did. On the other hand, my father is a former Fulbright Scholar with a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. Although they have all have been a tremendous inspiration, it was my own will, passion and love for music that led me to pursue such career.
Music is the creative system of making, performing, and responding to sound for individual and total significance. Through the methods of making musical works, performing with voice and instrument, and responding to our own specific and others' music, individuals and social events pass on suggestions, feelings and qualities. Music engagement shapes our thought and development, and is evident from the most reliable periods of life. Music is a pervasive component of contemporary life. This is, all things considered, since music, not in the slightest degree such as some other creative expression, can effectively unite a social event of people in light of true blue sympathy toward a particular reason.
The standard 21 year old adults have exchanged 250 thousand emails, spent 5 thousand hours video gaming and 10 thousand hours using their mobile devices (Lei, 2009). When people hear the word technology, they think of microwaves, televisions, cars, NASA, different types and transportation and more. For all that, technology has occurred long ahead these discoveries. Technology is an arguable matter amongst people. .In the old days, people lived an extremely simple life without technology. They used candles to light their houses and lanterns at the dark to travel, they used fire to cook and used newspapers and mail to share news. On the other hand, technology has seized an important place in our society. People are living in a stage of progressive technology. They are using all natural reserves applicable for making their lives better and easier. The society cannot picture life without electricity since it allows them to live through their everyday life. This paper argues that technology positively impacts people’s lives.
The process of choosing a career is, many times, a difficult decision. Many factors must be taken into account while deciding a career. Such factors usually include pay, work environment, and most importantly, what the person is interested in. Becoming a musician would be a highly fulfilling career for the reasons of broadening one’s musical abilities, people enjoying something that an individual made, and traveling the country, possibly even the world, for musical opportunities such as teaching, performing, and writing.
