My Experience with Music
At the age of ten, my parents decided that I should learn how to play an instrument. In addition, they also chose which instrument I should learn, the guitar. I had no interest in learning the guitar, because all I wanted to spend my leisure time on was improvising my soccer skills. However, my parents believed soccer was a waste of my precious time, time which I should be using to focus on school and expanding my brain by taking on a difficult task, such as learning to play music. This was contrary to what I believed, but I had to do it or else my parents would be displeased. Therefore, the following week, I began taking guitar lessons.
Since day one of lessons, I disliked the guitar with a passion. My teacher was old, grumpy, and did not like young children. We did not get off to a promising start, especially after I told him I hated the guitar, which made my instructor even angrier. Guitar lessons were something for which I had no enthusiasm. I wanted to play soccer as much as I could. However, what is a ten year-old supposed to do when his parents promise to punish him for not applying himself to something other than sports. I was a regular child who just wanted to enjoy life. I did not believe in learning something that did not interest me.
For the sake of conformity, I had to accomplish this task so that I could put a smile on my parents’ faces, even though I despised that guitar with all my heart. I went week after week to the instructor, and week after week, I would come back distressed and tired of the lessons and of the incredible amount of practice hours required.
After wasting a year of my life learning how to play the guitar, I still had not accomplished anything special. My parents began to realize that I was not born to play this instrument and that I was not having fun trying to learn either. They finally understood how much I wanted to play soccer. So after one miserable year, my parents called the music instructor and told him I would no longer be taking guitar lesson. The instructor was quite happy about my decision, telling my parents I was his worst student ever, but at least I had given it my best shot.
I can’t touch music, but it touches me. I cannot exist without it. Music surrounds me and envelops me. The music isn’t just background noise, it has power. The lyrics beat and intensity can fill me with angst, sadden me, pump me up and help me relax. Music is life and it has power. It helps me delve deep into my personality and individuality and has helped me discover a more introspective side of myself. However, it wasn’t always like this.
The Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA is the result of a 1970 executive order by President Richard Nixon for the purpose of protecting the environment of the United States through regulation on business and citizens. Public opinion on the Environmental Protection Agency has been divided fairly evenly across the population of the United States as of recently, as compared to the widespread public concern of the 50’s and 60’s that led to the agency’s creation. Recently the agency has come under scrutiny for its contributions of millions of dollars in grants to researchers in order to hide the potential trade off of its actions in order to further the agency’s agenda. The EPA’s ever-expanding regulation could end up harming more than it actually

After playing for the school for two years my parents and I made the decision for me to start playing
The war was fought primarily as a war to acquire territory as it had resulted in the loss of more than half of Mexico’s land. Due to the territorial acquisitions during the war and the imperialist attitudes of the American people, the war was a war of American imperialism. Even before the war, President James K. Polk had unsuccessfully tried to intimidate Mexico into seceding California, a territory which Mexico had long held. President Polk had denied that expansion was a movement of Imperialism in the quote "Our government is not extended by the sword. By its own merits it extends itself." However, it is apparent that through Polk’s order of Gen. Zachary Taylor and his army into the disputed Rio Grande territory, that expansion was not allowed for by the merits of the American people, but rather on behalf of the aggressive imperialism of the American government.
In ninth grade, I realized my passions were going through a rapid change. I started hating football because it wasn’t the same sport I played for six years before. It became more complex with schemes and coverages, and ultimately robbed the game of pleasure because it was no longer tackle the kid with the ball. More importantly, I no longer had the sense of acceptance and accomplishment due to me growing so vastly different from my peers. I also participated in band at this time which gained my interest and affection more so than football. One day Lucas, the saxophone section leader at the time, asked me if I was going to join marching band, and I told him yes because I was ready for a change. This monumental decision forever changed my life, and consequently I would’ve never been the same person I am now.
Sexuality is defined as the feelings and behaviors of a human being concerning sex, which encompasses both sexual behaviors and sexual desire (Sharpe, 2004). Sexuality is and can be different for everybody. As time goes by, there are different ways and types of behaviors associated with sexuality. Sexual development from the very young to the very old differs because for example, sexual behavior in young adults serves for procr...
Throughout my life, music has always been a major influence. It has the power to change my mood when I'm feeling down, but the thing I find most intriguing about music is that it doesn't always end up improving your mood: like all forms of art, it imitates life, which is not always portrayed in a positive light. The musicians that I admire most have the versatility to induce several different emotional responses in the same piece. This quality is present in most of the wide variety of music I listen to, from Russian composer Dmiti Shostakovich, to Chicago jazz band Tortoise, to California pop/rock sextet Mr. Bungle.
I was a very talented, left-handed pitcher and could have gone very far in baseball. My mom hated the idea of me not playing baseball because of my talent so they pushed back and told me that I shouldn’t and should at least finish the season. I respected my parents and hated making them upset so I did just that, I pushed through till the end of the season dreading it more and more every day. 7th grade was now over and the season had ended, but practices for the next were already beginning so I approached my parents once again. This time they got my coach to talk to me and ask me to keep going for another season. Once again I was pressured into playing. About half way through the season I had had enough of playing for good. I told my parents that I was done and didn’t want to play anymore and that was my final decision. It made my mom so upset but after a while she accepted it and forgave me. I learned through this experience that I should never let other people pressure me into doing something I don’t enjoy just because I’m scared of what they’ll think of me. Having quit baseball, I’ve moved on to doing theater and absolutely love it! I now try to keep that lesson in my head every day, to do what I enjoy and what makes me a better
The following Christmas half way through my fifth grade year, I received my first string instrument. Immediately I dropped the clarinet and fell in love with that cheap, 45 dollar, first act guitar. Everywhere I went, it followed. I was 11 at the time and that 45 dollar guitar made me feel like the hotshot of the town. Music made me happy.
...minant factor in human affairs, and the nation as a whole has done a superb job at keeping the green movement alive. The fact that we are now far more likely to call upon scientific data and experimental research to support arguments in favor of protecting the wilderness or against polluting industries, provides us with more power to properly brainstorm and implement ecologically assisting systems. Politicians record the work of several researchers and use automated climate models to battle global warming, and medical researchers rely on public health statistics to argue against mercury pollution as well as other harmful elements. Whether these arguments succeed or fail, however, the vast accomplishments of the green movement still depend on the vision, the passion and the commitment of not only environmentalists, but the majority of people living on planet Earth.
My guitar has taught me a lot of things. It has taught me a lot about music and how it works and how to play but beyond that my guitar has taught me to work hard. My guitar has taught me that if i want to get better at something that it will take work and that if i keep with it there is a lot to gain from it. That hard work really pays off. My guitar has taught me the importance that I am passionate about something I am learning. Guitar has really taught me a lot about myself and the way i learn. I have become a better student because of
In conclusion, the participants before and after the experiments had the same thought about asexuality. The lack of being sexually attracted seems to be the main cause although sexual arousal still occurred.
I had practice year round sometimes everyday, and no matter how much complaining I did, I was at every practice everyday. My father wanted me to be the best at everything I did; therefore I spent many nights practicing with him. When I was that young, I enjoyed every second of practice with my father. Being the best was so deeply instilled in me that anytime I failed, it was a catastrophe for me. For example, in baseball I would probably only strike out three to four times a season, which is great looking back now, but when I did strike out I became irate.
I chose to research the modern day environmental movement in the United States for several reasons. I was interested in learning more about the history of the modern day environmental movement here in the US. I feel as though in recent years the outcry for the environment has been growing on scale and I wanted to see what has been done throughout our history, and what the movement has accomplished so far. The significance and scale of this movement also is very interesting to me. There are over 6,500 national and 20,000 local environmental organizations within this movement as well as an estimated 20-30 million members. Additionally the beginning of this movement goes back to the 1960’s, I was interested to learn what it meant for a movement to be operating at such a large scale for so many decades. Its significance is not just limited to its longevity and grand proportions but also its motives. The argument that due to human action our planet is suffering and without action there will be only further decline is a strong one. The significance of our environment is unarguable. A...
