There are many distractions in the world today to affect college student’s homework. With all the new technology it is easy to get off task and eventually lose interest in homework. Such as talking on the phone, sending text messages, reading emails, or being on social media like Facebook or Instagram. Social media, cell phones, and parties play a big role in distractions. Students are taking longer to complete their assignments while absorbing less information than they would if they were focusing solely on schoolwork. Cell phones make it possible to do pretty much anything on one now. A person can call; text, email, and can even pay bills on them. Studies show 90 percent of American adults own a cell phone, 58 percent of American adults have a smart phone, 32 percent own an e-reader, and 42 percent of American adults own a tablet computer. Cell phone owners find themselves checking their phone for messages, alerts, or calls when they don’t even notice their phone ringing or vibrating. Cell phones have become such a big part of life that their now something people can’t imagine life without. People now place them beside their bed when they sleep to make sure they do not miss any calls, texts, or other updates during the night. 93 percent of college students have a cellular device. It’s not uncommon to see a cell phone next to a student while they are completing an assignment because it has become a habit to pick your phone up immediately as soon as it goes off. Students with more cellphone use have a tendency of receiving lower grades, higher anxiety, and they are less happy. The higher users of cell phones are not able to control it and are glued to the cell phone. Any person it doesn’t matter what age, everybody needs to have alone time with their thoughts, recover from their daily stressors in a way that doesn’t involve electronic devices. Cell phones have also had an effect on exercise. Students with a higher use of cell phones are less fit.
