Conquering alarming heights, dark depths and the vast unknowns are what the human spirit is made for. Are the many risks of mountaineering worth the honours and the adrenaline rush? Mt. Everest has cost a lot of lives from accidents ranging from hypothermia to avalanches. Because of these, there has been a decisive argument on whether to keep the mountain open or not. As an advocate of keeping Everest open, I consider the thought that these honours do outweigh the risks involved. “To deny this outlet-even to the few who are ready and willing to avail themselves of it-would be a cruel restraint.” (Source One). Even when those who do decide to climb Everest are aware of the many risks, others have to understand that doing this is their choice.
