Daddy Day Care is a film directed by Steve Carr in 2003. The movies writer was Geoff Rodkey and the production companies that where involved in this movie included Revolution Studios, Davis Entertainment and Day Care Productions. This movie follows an African American family. The family has two parents, Charlie and Kim Hinton, with their four-year-old son, Ben Hinton. The family seems to be in the middle class with Charlie being the sole provider and Kim benign a stay at home mom. The movie starts with Kim wanting to go back to work, which leads to putting Ben in an exclusive and expensive preschool. This means that the child is between the ages of 2 to 5. In this stage parents are making rules and enforcing their children to teach them structure and order. This needs to be done in a warm environment for children to develop positively. The system in the model that changes the most is Microsystem. This system includes his parents, school, and peers. In the beging of the film Ben stays at home with his mom while his dad goes to work. This then shifts when Kim wants to go back to work so Ben is placed in preschool. The preschool that Ben goes to is very strict and does not offer much interaction with peers. After Charlie loses his job he becomes Ben’s main caregiver and Ben is pulled from school. This is an improvement on Ben’s development because he is able to express himself with his dad and is creating a bond that he had never had before with Charlie’s. By the end of the movie Ben is back with his peers in his fathers run day care. Now Ben has a more supportive family life and larger group of peers. Chapter seven of “Making the “Terrible” Twos Terrific” by John Rosemond is about sending your children to daycare. Rosemond believes that if possible one of the parent stays at home for the first three years of life. “The first three years of life constitute the single most critical, precedent-setting developmental period” (Rosemond 207). He also talks about putting your child in a three day or half day daycare. From birth to age two children rely completely on their parents. At age three is the transition time when children learn they are not the center of the universe and this should be taught by the parents.

Even though, the children grew up in different environments, the stages of development they underwent were mostly the same. Whether it be in an environment not suitable for any person to live, as depicted by Ponijao’s family, or a well-kept home, as shown by Hattie’s family, the development stages were pretty much the same. Each toddler used their senses in order to gain information about the world around them. The major difference between the development of these four babies was the environment that they grew up in. For example, Hattie’s parents were constantly trying to teach their baby new and educational things. Her parents always read her books. In one book, she learned how to imitate the sounds and motions an elephant makes. Due to Ponijao’s environment, it was extremely difficult to learn the kinds of things Hattie was learning. In his environment, he didn’t even have any books or toys that could further his knowledge. His family was living in poverty. Erikson believes a person’s personality changes throughout their lifespan and primarily focuses on ego. Furthermore, ego is a person’s sense of self-importance or self- acceptance. This is a major factor when discussing personality because how we perceive ourselves, reflects onto others. Erikson’s eight stages of psychological development consist of infancy, early childhood, preschool, middle school, adolescence, young adulthood, middle age and old age. He indicates that during each stage of life a person experiences a psychological crisis, which could aid in a negative or positive result. During the infancy stage, the psychological crisis is trust vs. mistrust, meaning total dependence on the mother or father. If either or both parents show love and attention, then the child will develop trust, or otherwise mistrust if neglected. Early childhood, around the ages two to three years old a child becomes more mobile and shows signs of independence. The caregivers will either assist the child in all their needs or wait patiently as they figure them out on their own. Erikson distinguishes the importance of allowing children to face their own challenges with the tolerance of failure. This will provide the willingness to push through hard times and overcome adversity. Stage 3, initiative vs. guilt describes the interaction between other children and their ability to make decisions. A child will initiate activity with others continuously when he or she feels secure. Nevertheless, when children are told ‘no’ they react with feelings of guilt. The fourth stage of Erikson’s theory begins to explain inferiority. In this stage, a student will be introduced to teachers who become a major part of a child’s psychological development. With encouragement, children will feel confident in themselves, whereas negative reinforcement may cause self-doubt. Identity vs.
When discussing the interactions within different systems which were discussed in Chapter 1 of the text, you a left with complex yet systematic avenues to which an individual’s development can be affected. In order to fully understand the interactions of individuals on a day to day basic, it is imparative that we first understand that people and everything around them are in constant change. Rather those changes are internal or external, we must be able to identify these systems, which intel will help us with the understanding of human development.
Day-care is a place where children ranging from as little as one month, to any other age, are taken care of during the day. This could be due to the parents being too busy to take care of them during the same time, either due to work, school, or other time consuming obligations. Day-care therefore provides alternative care for little children, when their parents are away. This is widely criticized by a large number of people who believe that children should not be left under the care of strangers.
Firstly, let’s take a look at how Ben affects the play’s main character, Willy Loman.
