On the afternoon of April 10, 1815 an event occurred that would change the lives of many people. This event was forevermore engraved in the history books and remembered as the eruption felt around the world. On this day Mount Tambora exploded killing thousands of lives, and destroying the entire surrounding environment, and is still known to this day as the most powerful volcano eruption in history. There are many curious people that still ask themselves “what caused this devastating eruption”? Its simple, the volcano eruption wasn’t something we caused, but rather something Mother Nature itself caused. The governor of Java sent an officer to one of the neighboring islands Sumbawa to check the condition it was in. “He found there were still dead bodies lying around, the villages were almost entirely deserted and most of the houses had fallen down. The few survivors were desperately trying to find food. An epidemic of violent diarrhea had broken out, thought to have been caused by volcanic ash contaminating the drinking water, and had caused many deaths” (Cavendish "The Eruption Of Mount Tambora"). What was left of the island were nothing but empty fields of the remains of bodies, houses, crops, and even pools of water caused by tsunamis. That’s right tsunamis hit the coast of many islands around the volcano. This was mainly due to the tectonic plates that were moved in the ocean crust. When the volcano erupted it even managed to move tectonic plates underneath it, and since the volcano was right next to the ocean water the tectonic plates clashed with each other creating multiple tidal waves. Not only did it affect us but also Mother Nature, there was many landscapes that were destroyed and many earthquakes cause by the tectonic plates that will scar the earth forever. Mount Tambora is still recorded in history as the most powerful volcano in years, and it was the only volcano that had a worldwide effect. What makes even scarier is that after this eruption happened many thought it wouldn’t have another eruption for years to come, but in 1967 another eruption happened.
