Abstract
This paper reflects the understanding of how homework policies foster self efficacy, self awareness, self esteem and foster positive social interactions between teachers,students and parents as well as peer to peer interactions in a special education classroom.This paper examines several ways to apply the knowledge learned to and ways to motivate students, use assistive technology, adapt the curriculum for students and also make lessons interactive in the classroom to enhance students understanding and reduce incidents of unwanted behavior.

Collett had students upon entering class walk to his desk and put completed homework in one basket and walk to the other end of his desk and pick up graded assignments from another basket. Depending upon transition time between classes and class size this could prove very time consuming. One major problem i have with his policy is students being allowed to look through graded papers. This does not respect the privacy of all students and students in the class who may be already struggling socially and emotionally may be exposed to ridicule from other students because of their low grades. This system would not work well in all settings. some students with special needs have limited mobility or physical disabilities that would make this difficult and very time consuming. This would not motivate students to want to complete their homework because they may be teased by other students when trying to turn in assignments. To make sure all students felt included and their dignity is respected is to have students pass ungraded papers to the front or to have students grade papers from their seats. Graded assignments should be passed back by the teacher, by either walking around or calling students up one by one to get their papers. Separating students into mixed ability cooperative learning groups and grading papers as a class will allow additional supports for students who are struggling with mastering a particular skill. Collett Has a dedicated space on the board for Homework assignments. Containing all pertinent information about the assignment. I would be able to use this policy for my students with special needs. The students would know exactly where to look for the information. I also like the idea of having the students be involved with the developing the homework assignment. Engaging the students in the development of their homework will help them retain the information. This policy would allow me to keep students actively engaged in the lesson while checking for understanding of the concepts taught that day. The policy of allowing students to dispute incorrect answers on assignments promotes active engagement and metacognitive thinking skills. By making students write a formal appeal that includes evidence of why they think their answer was correct with supporting evidence attached is a good way of getting students actively engaged in their own learning . Even though i like the idea it would not work well for my classroom. Most students would require assistive to help them read write and hand in the appeal. A better option for me would be to modify the assignment to the student's present level of
