Mosuo’s society recognizes family by matrilineal descent meaning that a family is traced through their mother’s family. Furthermore, Mosuo does not believe in marriage, instead the men would go to the women’s house to conceive a baby. This interaction is called tisese or furitive visit, where the man would make love to his lover, and then return to his mother’s house. The relationships between men and women in a tisese relationship are secretive because the family pretend they know nothing of the tisese, and no public affection is to be shown between the two.
