“We are too young to realize that certain things are impossible... So we will do them anyway.”(goodreads.com) William Wilberforce spent most of his teenage years hooked to his faith. Although he encountered many problems along the way to defeat slavery his life definitely displays moral courage. He did not know what he was going to do with his life at this point, but I bet he had no idea what life had in stock for him. By examining moral courage, how he relates to the Holocaust, and how he impacts me it is clear that he speaks out for everything that he believes in, and he does whatever he can to announce his message to the whole world. He truly had a life worth waiting for. In the beginning William was like any other young child playing outside …show more content…
He thinks that freeing the slaves would be a very sympathetic for all the people who wanted slavery gone. Although William was doing the right thing Hitler did the same thing by wanting to get rid of all Jews. It is just that Hitler was doing it the other way around by taking all the Jews he was doing everything wrong. Both the slaves and the Jews were held captive for quite a while it was just a matter of time before they knew they would be free. So William has a relation with the holocaust because they both wanted to get rid of something or …show more content…
Living a quite a long life he used most of it for the Abolition Movement, prison reform, educational reform, and public health. Informing everyone about what problems lie ahead with these topics. William thought that we need to get rid of slavery and Hitler thought that we needed to get rid of Jews. And finally he inspires me to speak out and show the world what I can do. “If you love someone who is ruining his or her life because of faulty thinking, and you don’t do anything about it because you are afraid of what others might think, it would seem that rather than being loving , you are in fact being
Starting in 1939 during the Holocaust, many Jews were deported to concentration camps by the Nazis where they will meet their end, but how did some of them survive? Even though most of them died, some lives were saved by the very few people with moral courage. One of the people with moral courage was Carl Lutz. Moral courage is the actions a person takes because of his/her belief of what is right or wrong, even though it may risk his/her life. Lutz was born in Switzerland in 1895 and he emigrated to the United States at the age of 18. During more than 20 years of temporarily staying in the United States, he worked at the Swiss Legislation in Washington and became chancellor of Swiss Consulates in Philadelphia. These events lead him to be appointed as Swiss vice-consul in Budapest, Hungary. During his life as a Swiss vice-consul, he decided to save the Jews because of his belief. By the time of his death in Bern, Switzerland in 1975, Lutz earned the title of Righteous Among the Nations
Douglass made poignant points about manhood, Christianity and literacy that helped the freedom bells ring for all mankind. He did so in a peaceful and Christian manner that was exemplary and repeated in later years by civil rights activist Martin Luther King. Douglass opened the eyes for many both black and white to the shadows and indignities that slavery cast on all that were involved with it. Through his hard work, dedication and sacrifice he helped bring an end to the demon of slavery.
As one can see, William was a man who did great things for those in need of help throughout his lifetime. However, if he had never escaped from slavery, his accomplishments may have never occurred. If he had not fled from slavery, then there may not have been a chance for the successful escape of six hundred and forty nine slaves, nor would his organizations have been formed to help many of those who needed assistance in overcoming the burdens of being former slaves.
There are many heroic individuals in history that have shown greatness during a time of suffering ,as well as remorse when greatness is needed, but one individual stood out to me above them all. He served as a hero among all he knew and all who knew him. This individual, Simon Wiesenthal, deserves praise for his dedication to his heroic work tracking and prosecuting Nazi war criminals that caused thousands of Jews, Gypsies, Poles and other victims of the Holocaust to suffer and perish.
He motivates me to be a better person and to stand up when I know that I need to. William is known as an unsung hero, and I think that after what he did he should be extremely famous and known. His story is impeccable and I will think of him as a role model everyday.
" The businessman, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example of a man who was moved emotionally to step in and take action to save the lives of the Jewish people. His bravery still commands great respect today. His role shows the great significance of speaking up against injustice and choosing not to be silent.
The hope is that his one voice can bring new light to a list of statistics, that the world will feel a much deeper impact when they visualize the torment of the Holocaust, rather than just seeing the numbers and moving on with their days. Reading line after line and memory after memory, one can almost hear their own hearts breaking with each turn of the page. My heart will forever have an ache for the innocent lives lost and the battles that shouldn’t have been necessary to fight. A quote from the novel will forever be instilled in my mind, “NEVER SHALL I FORGET that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky. Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes. Never shall I forget those things, even were I condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never” (p34). Never will I forget Wiesel’s bravery and never will I forget that the Holocaust
Elie Wiesel: A Survivor of the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel wrote in a mystical and existentialistic manner to depict his life as a victim of the holocaust in his many novels. Such selections as ‘Night’ and ‘The Trial of God’ reveal the horrors of the concentration camps and Wiesel's true thoughts of the years of hell that he encountered. This hell that Wiesel wrote about was released later in his life due to his shock, sadness, and disbelief. Elie Wiesel spoke in third person when writing his story.
In the end, he gave away about 90% of his own money to various causes. He also preached to others to do the same as in giving money for education and sciences. The problem, however, was that there was such a contrast between the rich and the poor. By this he was referring to the inequalities in rights, hereditary powers, and such things. He also felt we should have a continuum of forward progress, i.e.
During World War II there was event that lead to deaths of millions of innocent people. This even is known as the holocaust, millions of innocent people were killed violently, there was mass murders, rapes and horrific tortures. The question I will attempt to answer in the course of this paper is if the holocaust was a unique event in history. In my opinion there were other mass murders that people committed justified by the feeling of being threatened. But I don 't believe that any were as horrific and inhumane as Germany’s genocide of the Jewish people.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of his time. He saw that segregation was wrong and decided to do something about it. He endured through hard times, all the while working to better the lives of others. With his help many people began to take a stand against the racial inequality and injustice against African Americans. He left a lasting impact and improved the lives of thousands living in America and changed the future for those yet to come.
In conclusion, true courage is shown in the story in many different ways by many different characters. There was not just one protagonist in this story who turns out to be a hero. In this story we had two plots. Each of the plots contained many heroic characters who not only did what they deemed morally just, but put their life behind what they believed in. Whether physically or mentally exerting themselves, almost every character, showed qualities like Martin Luther King Jr. They made bold statements in the community. They sent out messages that people would not forget. It is unfortunate that only now can we admire these type of people for what they did. Thankfully, they are remembered for their courage and that is what makes these characters world famous.
His work serves as a reminder to everyone- not to let prejudice blind you against evil, to remind people of the great sorrow that happened, and not only does it educate and inform people, it also expresses feelings that should not be forgotten in case another Holocaust should happen. It serves as to inform people, or also remind them of what happened. It is his catharsis, and our education.
When I was younger, I always knew that my mom took her job very seriously, but I was never able to fully comprehend what she did as a teacher. Once I started getting older, I understood that in order to teach certain topics to students, she had to understand a lot about history. One of the topics she studied in order to teach her students was the history of the Holocaust, which indeed is very serious. Then I began hearing that word, “Holocaust,” in school and made the connection. That’s when the seriousness of her job started to resonate with me as a student as well as her daughter. One could probably say that this topic is interesting to virtually everyone who comes across it. However, for the reasons I indicated, it sparks a little bit more of an interest in me than the average person.
