What makes a monster a monster? A monster is defined as an imaginary creature that is typically large, ugly, and frightening. Humans depict monsters just as that, terrifying manipulative creatures. Monsters can be seen in many different shapes and forms, not just that of a vampire, werewolf, or clown. The term monster derived from many different aspects that humans have developed into unrealistic creatures. Many individuals see monsters as mythical. People do not see the underlying truth behind where monsters came from. Humans remain the ones that established the expression monster using the characteristics seen in humans. In one scene of Monsters Inc. the Abdominal Snowman, Mike, and Sulley get banished to the human world. This scene demonstrates just how little humans acknowledge the presence of monsters lurking around. The monsters lurking around are no more than a metaphor for humans presumed as monsters. Each person develops a little monster in them, some more than others. Deep down people know that the real monsters do not hide under the bed or in closets, but inside of them. Monsters Inc. expresses the idea that our monsters start at a young age, and as people grow older the monster increasingly consumes more of the person. The distinction between the two worlds was to reassure people that there exists some sort of difference between the two, because humans do not want to be associated with something so demonic. Monsters in the human world may not look like the creatures depicted in movies and books, but people that we associate with daily. In books and movies such as Monsters Inc. the monsters emerge easily distinguishable, and easy to spot. In the human world, it is more difficult to identify the monsters prowling around, because humans have become so oblivious to situations that they do not see the monster staring in their eyes. It is easier to put up a shield rather than to let people see the monster
