Around the time after Jesus’ resurrection, Christians were confused and they needed answers. Jesus was just arisen from the dead. The Church now had Jesus and God to look to, but who was the leader of it all? Who were they to worship? Where does the Spirit fit into all of this? After many questions, they looked to Scripture. Christians have had the belief of Monotheism and that there is One God. Yet, it wasn’t until the Church looked to Scripture that they pieced together what is now known as the Holy Trinity. The Church found their foundational text in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, known as the Shema. These verses are about Israel worshipping God, repeatedly saying “the LORD alone”. Israel had faced many struggles, from slavery to years and years of
Growing up, I was always taught to use a soft pretzel to symbolize the Trinity. The dough is all rolled in one giant, long string. This symbolized the inseparable nature of the Trinity. Next, the dough was twisted to make distinct loops, all in the same pretzel, but having their own sections. This implied how God is the whole pretzel, and the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are their own loops working divinely. But, it is still the whole pretzel. The crossing of the pretzel dough signifies how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work together, and overlap in their divine work. Now, the baking of the pretzel symbolizes the person, and their walk with God. Some pretzels take longer to cook than others, representing a human lifespan. Some pretzels come out with breaks in the cooked dough, signifying some hardship or times of tribulation and doubt. But, overall the pretzel will eventually be ready to eat, symbolizing death. And as long as the pretzel is not burnt (symbolizing a lost soul and Hell), it can fulfill its ultimate purpose, representing our joining of the army of God. Another great example of the Trinity is Athaniusus’ psychological analogy. He suggests that human beings are the only creation that can reflect God because we were made in His image. He uses the concepts of memory, understanding, and free will in humans as an analogy to the Trinity. One person has all three of those distinct parts and they all work
One of the main principles of Christianity is the belief in both the divinity and humanity of Jesus, that these two natures are combined harmoniously in one being. In general, all modern Christians believe that Jesus was human, he was considered to be “The Word was made flesh” (John, I: 14). However, Jesus was more than just a human, despite being subjected to pain, suffering and death like all other human beings, he was sinless and also possessed the power to heal and to defy death in order to ascend, both body and spirit, into heaven. He was all man and all God, a combination of these two elements, remaining distinct but united in one being. The deity of Jesus is a non-negotiable belief in Christianity, which is referred to in many parts of scripture, “God was revealed in the flesh” (I Timothy, 3:16). The Christian faith does not perceive Jesus as God but rather a reincarnation of God, a mysterious deity who is the second person of the Holy Trinity. Throughout history, controversy has surrounded the issue of the humanity and divinity of Jesus, leading to the formation of Docetism, the belief that Jesus was fully divine but not fully human, Arianism, that Jesus was superior to all of creation, but less divine than God, and Nestorius, that there were two separate persons within Jesus. This the proportion of the divine and human within Je...
...nity. The Holy Spirit allows human beings to become closer to God, and the relationship between the Father and the Son. After writing about both the Trinity and Salvation, I have learned that they are immensely interconnected. The Trinity allows human beings to find Salvation. All in all, the Trinity is not three separate parts, but one part with three different essences.
After the Holy Spirit was sent by God, the first Christians were given the power by them. And they end up telling the people about Jesus. It was the Christians who explained to people that they should invite God into their lives and confess their evil deeds to God.... ... middle of paper ...
The worship of Yahweh was unknown. before the time of Moses. The Israelites as a whole began to realize that the God of Moses was a very “jealous God,” who would not tolerate worship of any. other gods.. As the book of Exodus opens, we find that the Israelites are slaves.
The first revelation (Chapters IV to IX) is the revelation of “His precious crowning with thorns” and Jesus’s love for all that He made by dying on the cross for His people. When He left earth the Holy Spirit came down to dwell among us. St. Julian is brought to understand the death, resurrection, and the incarnation of Christ. She is also led to see that our God is a Triune God. Our heavenly Father is made up of three parts: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is distinctly different but together they make up one God identical in essence. The three persons of God remain in unity and
In Christianity one of their primary beliefs is the idea of a Triune God, which means the belief of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as one entity not three separate beings. This would result in God being indivisible and could not be divided into three different parts for an ...
Walls states, and gives examples of how expressions of Christian faith have changed over time. The early church in A.D. 37 were mostly Jews, worshiped in the Temple, and lived according to the Law of Moses. They lived like normal Jews, except for their belief in Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah, who fulfilled the prophecies of the Law that they love.
Christianity is a very unique religion. It, unlike many of the world's major religions, places a great emphasis on having the correct beliefs and interpretations of religious doctrines. Being a much more societal religion than many others, Christianity in its early years found that it was important to have every follower have the same understanding of the cardinal beliefs that it preaches. The story of the bible is a very complex one, as compared to other religions. The statement of beliefs of the other Abrahamic religions are all relatively short. They do not rely so heavily on scripture as Christianity does, and therefore there s no need for a comprehensive statement of belief that covers all major events and definitions (Johnson 9). Christianity, even around the time of its founding, was a very controversial religion. Given the religious landscape of the time, consisting of mainly of Greco-Roman Pagan beliefs and Judaism. Early followers of Jesus had to convert former Jews or Pagan Greeks into Christianity, but that caused some prior views of people to hinder their full understanding of Christianity and bring with them plausible, yet ultimately false ideas on the correct interpretation of some fundamental events in the Bible. The Christian statement of belief, or creed, in the beginning was a very rudimentary summary, but as Christianity grew in its early years, it became evident that there was clearly some clarification needed. The creed slowly evolved from the original "apostles" version to the version that is widely accepted today called the Nicene Creed (Fullerton & Hunsberger 317). The main reason for the rapid evolution of the creed was to define the correct interpretation of scripture, and halt the spread of various her...
“Trinity” is a word that symbolizes the incarnation of a three-in-one Godhead. She represents the “Holy Spirit” because many people are brought to the “One” which is said to be Neo by her. In the film we have Morpheus which in biblical references is "the Father," Neo who is "the Son," and Trinity who is "the Holy Spirit." In of the scenes Trinity talked to Neo when he died in the Matrix. Her kiss raised him, which would reference the biblical verse Romans 8:11 “…. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you…” Trinity in one particular scene in the film she insisted that Neo needed her assistance in order to help Morpheus, Trinity symbolizes our lives that we need to walk in the Spirit. We might know what needs to be done in life, but we can't accomplish it on our own value or strength. We need the “Holy Spirit” to be our
The Trinity is made up of God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This concept is what many Catholics believe in, but other worldwide religions believe in other beliefs. Out of all the three Divine Persons, “Jesus is the most qualified to bring the renewal of creation because it was through him that creation came into being” (Pohle February 7th). We as humans will have to face the consequences for actions that we have done in the past, present and future. Jesus has come into the world as a human to show his dignity and save us from sin; he was the world and of all creation. As we come to read more about Jesus we get to know Jesus more, we learn about what he did, how he did it and why he had to do these saving actions.
The doctrine of the Trinity, as seen in the Christian bible, is primary to the Christian faith. The word “Trinity” does not actually appear in the bible; it is a theological label meant to summarize certain teachings of certain passages of scripture, and is crucial to properly understand what God is like, how He relates to us, and how we relate to Him. It may also raise many difficult questions including what does it mean that God is a Trinity? While it is difficult for us to fully understand everything about the trinity, it is quite possible to answer questions like this one and come to a solid grasp of what it means for God to be three in one.
The Holy Spirit Many people just think of God the Father and Jesus Christ, but the Trinity has a third member. That member is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity, and he has his own personality, he has metaphors to describe himself, and he has a presence in the world that is shown through his works.
The history of worship can easily be found within the Biblical texts; many ancient Jew partake in worshipping the Yahwah by singing Psalms, read from the compilation of Biblical texts, and discussed among themselves what they believed to be the interpretation and implications (Webber). It is from this tradition that Judaism fed into the sect referred to as Christianity, which is represented in two main divisions referred to as Catholicism and Protestantism. White referred to the nine divisions of Protestantism which represents the Evangelical Church and how we worship today.
God the Transformer This response details the three main images of god, specifically focussing on God as The Transformer. The answer can be found in God’s Word. Colossians 1:13¬¬–20 explains all that humanity needs to know in order to begin understanding the Deity of Christ, who He is and how He and God are One. This passage talks of Christ being the Firstborn over all Creation (Colossians 1:15) and how in Him, everything has come into being (Colossians 1:16). Jesus Christ, being on earth as God incarnate dwelt amongst the people claiming to be God. Colossians 1:18 (NIV) says “He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in
