MODEL OF REFLECTION
Description
Throughout this reflective log, I shall be reflecting on my own personal journey through the Developing Essential skills within Higher Education Module. To do this I shall be using Gibbs Framework model of reflection (Gibbs, 1988). By using this model, I shall be able to construct a thorough reflection of my progression which will enable me to reflect on both positive and negative experiences to gain knowledge and improve my outcomes. The module consists of:-
Developing essential skills needed to progress into higher education.
Developing skills in using and accessing learning and research materials in order to inform own learning development.
Demonstrating and applying these skills to work submitted for assessment.
Reflect upon and evaluate own skills in relation to work undertaken.
(Ashby, 2006) suggests that reflection helps us to understand a

(Connerly and Forsyth (****) suggest that poor academic writing is due to lack of practice and the understanding of how to go about it.
During my presentation I was filled with defeatism before I started knowing I would feel vulnerable an exposed, but after research on how to present yourself during a presentation I found the experience to be positive especially when given feedback on my evaluation. In Downs and Wardle’s article, they argue and identify the flaws in teaching writing in college. Demonstrating the misconceptions that academic writing is universal, but rather specialized in each case. Citing studies and opinions from esteemed professionals, Downs & Wardle state their points and illuminate the problem in today’s many colleges.
According to Runciman, there are many plausible reasons that students and other people don’t enjoy writing. Evidence, assumptions, and language and tone are the basis for which Runciman makes his argument. Overall, this argument is effective because reliable and well known sources are used in a logical fashion. Also, the assumptions made about the audience are accurate and believable. Runciman used his assumptions wisely when writing his claim and in turn created a compelling, attention capturing argument. The article was written so that students and teachers at any level could understand and easily read it. This argument is interesting, captivating, relevant through its age, and can relate to students and teachers at almost every academic level.
In Patricia Limerick’s article “Dancing with Professors”, she argues the problems that college students must face in the present regarding writing. Essays are daunting to most college students, and given the typical lengths of college papers, students are not motivated to write the assigned essays. One of the major arguments in Limerick’s article is how “It is, in truth, difficult to persuade students to write well when they find so few good examples in their assigned reading.” To college students, this argument is true with most of their ...
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.

When an ODP job in advertised the prospective candidate must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council(HCPC) (Health Education England, 2014f); the regulatory body set up to maintain a register of health care professionals from certain roles within the NHS (Health Education England, 2014g). Before I am entitled to register with the HCPC I must meet a criteria designed to ensure I meet the necessary standards for the role I intend on practicing in (Health Education England, 2014g). The best way to satisfy these standards is by completing an approved programme that automatically entitles me to registration and put me one step further to becoming an ODP (Health Education England, 2014g). An approved programme for an ODP registration would either be a Diploma of Higher Education or a Bachelor of Science degree course; with the latter being a relatively new option that has begun to be offered by universities (Health Education England, 2014g). My goal is to become an ODP is shortest time possible, making the diploma course a better op...
In this instance, I will reflect on how the incident aided my learning. I will also look at how effectively I educated the patient.
Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Formal writing forms like essays, research papers, and articles stimulates critically thinking. This helps the writer to learn how to interpret the world around him/her in a meaningful way. In college, professors motivate students to write in a formal, coherent manner, without losing their own voice in the process. Improving your writing skills is important, in every English class that’s the main teaching point; to help students improve their writing skills. Throughout my college experience I have acknowledge that

As I reflect on my path through the MPH program, it is hard to believe how far I came, how much I learned, and how this well-designed, multi-disciplinary, professional course has changed my perspectives on health and well-being.
Students in higher education are expected to be responsible for the management of their own learning, learn domain specific concepts as well as acquaint themselves with a range if transferable cognitive skills that enables them to learn how to be successful in future (Dransfield, 2004 p.39). It is very important for higher education students to become self-managed learners as it enable them to learn for themselves giving them a chance to achieve more, enjoy their work and produce original work. One of the most important goals of self-managed learning is helping learners move forward such that they can become typical self-managed learners. Being self-managed is a very important skill in the modern job market as most employers look for employees who can effectively manage time and projects independently. As Dransfield (2004 p.39) argues, the ability of a student to demonstrate self-managed learning is a very important outcome of professional development regardless of the fact whether it is in the basis of a workplace or college learning facility. One of the best opportunities for higher education students can demonstrate self-managed learning is through research projects. Cunningham, Bennett & Dawes (2000 p.57) argues that self-managed learning brings a continuous feeling of development among students directly linking them to embracing their career
Much like Benjamin Franklin believed, I feel that a person should take advantage of the time the person has in life with activities a person wants to do or needs to do. A person should not spend much time on activities the person does not want to do. Life is way too short to concern oneself with work or other activities one wants nothing to do with all the time. When possible, I try to forget about my responsibility and just let go of the ‘things’ that do not matter to me. I think a person should try to occupy oneself with something productive, worthwhile, or necessary at all times. Even though a person’s life is left up to a person to live, I cannot imagine thinking that I owe my time to society through working a job that I simply despise. I am a compassionate person, but I do not owe anyone anything regarding my time.
For instance, I have learned that just simply reflecting on what I am seeing in the classroom is not enough that I have to comprehend and gain knowledge about the classroom in a more profound and meaningful way, such as relating observations to theories and psychology studies. Also I have learned to reflect more deeply on what is going on around me, not just looking at what is at the surface. I took notes during my observation. I tried to not only write what was happening, but also why it was happening and tried to convey any thoughts or feeling the students, teacher or myself had. Lastly, in my reflection, I improved my reflection skills by asking myself questions, such as, “what would I do,” “how would I do it,” and “how would I react?” Then, I would reflect back on what I had learned throughout the semester to see if I could find the most appropriate
