The Miracle Worker The movie The Miracle Worker, directed by Arthur Penn was released in 1962. The Miracle Worker play was written by William Gibson in 1956. Both have several similarities and several differences. Both the play and the movie showed Kate and Keller finding out that Helen is deaf and blind. How they found out that Helen was deaf, is when Kate was taking to her. They found out she was blind because Helen was looking at the light and she was not squinting. That was one of the most dramatic parts in the book and the movie. Another similarity is when James tells Kate, Keller, and Aunt Ev that Annie was locked in her room at dinner. Helen drops the key to Annie’s room down the well, Helen is smart even though she was not taught. At breakfast, Helen keeps taking food of others plates and when Helen gets to Annie’s, Helen tries to take food off Annie’s plate. Annie grabs Helen’s hand and she did not like that so she spit in Annie’s face. Aunt Ev gives Helen a doll that was made out of old rags. When Helen gets the doll, she notices that the doll did not have eyes, so Helen pulled two buttons off Aunt Ev’s dress and starts to hit the buttons in the doll’s face. …show more content…
The differences in the play and the movie are when Helen is pining Martha down and and trying to cut Martha's hair.
In the movie, Percy was ringing the bell and Kate comes to grab Helen and get her off of Martha. In the play, Martha and Helen are cutting out paper dolls and Helen cuts Martha's hair. The play shows Helen as a nicer person than in the movie. Another difference is when Annie and Helen are in the hunting shack. Captain Keller came to see his daughter to see how she is doing in the movie. In the play, Captain Keller didn't come to see Helen in the hunting shack. When Keller does not come to see his daughter, it makes him look like a bad
father. There are advantages and disadvantages in the play and the movie. An advantage is there are more details in the play than in the movie. A disadvantage is you have to read a lot. Advantages for the movie is, it goe a lot faster but a disadvantage is they leave some parts out of the movie. I preferred the movie because for me personally, I followed the story better since i'm not a strong reader. Another reason I liked the movie is it showed more of Helen’s struggles.
There are even some small differences in The Crucible book and movie. Such as, all of the scenes in the book are place indoors whereas in the movie there are many outdoor scenes. Even the number of girls with Abigail in the movie is much larger than the amount of girls mentioned in the book.
There were some scenes added or adapted in the movie as opposed to the play. First, the large group of "stricken" girls, which indeed had a greater number than did the group in the play, left the church meeting at the beginning of the movie to see about Betty's condition. Betty seemed to be much more violent in the movie and she tried to jump out of the window, which did not occur in the play. These details were most likely added to ...
The key props that adorned both settings were not much different from that of the film. In the play, however, there were more pieces that adorned the pie shop, and the raggedy arrangement of the background props compare to the distressed structure that the film wanted to show as well. In the movie there was more room to experiment and add to the locations. For example, in order to show the age of the barber’s shop, they added peeling wallpaper, creaking floorboards, and panels that were detached from the
There is other little differences that I noticed added to the story that were in the movie and not the play. There are several scenes where Mother superior is interacting with Sister Veronica. Because of some of these scenes you see another side of Sister Aloysius that presents a more compassionate lady not so wrapped up in doubt. Although Sister Aloysius comes off as a strict woman that really has no sympathy for anyone or anything, which kind of makes you question how the heck she ended up as a nun. In the movie you can clearly see that she has a softer side and actually is hiding behind that tough façade she puts up.
Now in the play in act 5 a total of four of the characters died but in the movie only two died in Act 5. The only real similarities are that Romeo and Juliet die and Balthazar told Romeo that Juliet died. At the same time the differences are that in the movie Romeo never went to the apothecary witch in the play he did. Also In the movie when Romeo and Balthasar went to the Capulet tomb Romeo never gave his servant the reason why he did go into the tomb and he opened the tomb with a boulder but in the play he told Balthasar that he was going to give juliet a final kiss and retrieve a ring from her. Romeo also opened the tomb the a iron crowbar. And the biggest Difference was that Lady Montague died from grief but in the movie she lived and Romeo never fought Parris in the movie at the Capulet
Each version also has the main characters boarding up the windows. Anyone who thought the birds won’t attack are usually found dead, but in the movie they are found with their eyes pecked out. Also, both the story and the movie have REALLY bad endings! They aren’t very similar, but they both leave you hanging. When you see a movie or read a book you want to know what happens to the main characters. In these two, you didn’t get an ending. They left you hanging and for some people that ruins it all.
Although based on the same play, the stage and the film adaptations of Tartuffe by Molière, contain different portrayals of the character Tartuffe through costume choices, manners, and emotion in voice.
One of the similarities is, at the beginning of the movie and play Scrooge is still mean. And in the movie and the play people still don't like Scrooge at first. And in the movie and play he gets visited by something to show what's really important about christmas. Also in the movie and in the play the townspeople didn't want him to work in any
Another major difference in the mood of the play and the movie is in the funeral
Main details that support this difference are that in the movie, Cora is supposed to wed with Heyward and Cora agreed with that. Then she met Hawkeye when he saved her from an ambush from the Hurons. From there they fell in love and Heyward was out of the picture as far as love is concerned. So, Cora is the one who is in love with Hawkeye and Alice takes the role of Cora. Another factor, dealing with the love theme differences is in the book, there was not a big love scene between Hawkeye and Alice as there was in the movie between Hawkeye and Cora. Thus making the movie a more romantic story. In the movie, key things that happen have different importance because the roles switch. For instance, towards the end of the book, Cora dies. In the movie, Alice dies. This is important because Alice and Cora have certain traits that make this more and/or less important to the story.
Despite the gap between the two films they both have very similar features and same intensions. Even though they are similar they also have their differences. The play was set in Padua, Italy, the film was shot at stadium High School in Tacoma, Seattle. The play has different characters and each of those characters have a different personality in the play. Kat in the play is rude, in the film she is rude but not as much as the play. Bianca in the play is alone and wanting to find someone, in the movie she is also alone but she try’s a lot harder than Bianca in the play. Gremio and Hortensio in the play are two different characters where is in the play they are joey meaning they are just one
The most obvious similarity is the characters. The main characters are seen in both the play and movie. A lot of the minor characters do not change either. Of course, the dialogue is followed almost exactly. There are lines here and there that are cut out, but for the most part all the lines that are not cut out are the exact same. Also, the plot is the same too. In both the movie and the play, Hamlet seeks revenge on Claudius for killing his father. They play that Hamlet puts on is in both the movie and the play that proves he is trying to seek revenge. Hamlet also does not kill Claudius when he has the chance in both the movie and the play. Another similarity is that Claudius and Laertes conspire together to kill Hamlet. In both the movie and the play, Claudius poisons the drink Hamlet is supposed to drink, and Laertes poisons the sword he uses to injure Hamlet. It is made known in the movie that Claudius and Laertes conspire together when Laertes yells out that the King is to blame. The same lines are also used in the play. Laertes yells out, “Thy mother’s poisoned. I can no more. The King, the King’s to blame”
Between the short story and the movie, many similarities were shown. To start, a similarity in both the short story and the movie was that Margot was locked in the closet by her peers to show their dislike for her. This resulted in Margot missing her chance to see the sun for the first time in five years. In the
First, one of the changes between the film and the play's the ages of Abigail Williams and John Proctor. In the play Abigail was represented as a child no more than 12 years old, and John was at least 60 years old in the play. But in the film Abigail was 17 years old and John was 30 years old and they had an affair. These changes cause a different outlook on the two characters. It also allowed them to be more memorable, because
Some of the differences I noticed in the play was the Shakespeare streams lines everything causing things to happen more deliberately and seemingly right after the pervious event. He also changes things around in order for the to make more sense in a play format. Other than changing things in order to make in more play friendly I believe
