When you always know what is going on around, you have good situational awareness. Situational awareness is being alert and aware of the status of your surroundings and the objects within it. In many situations, you need to know about any and all factors that would affect your decisions and actions. People in the military need to have strong situational awareness, knowing what is in front and behind them, who is with them, and what they are going into to better prepare themselves for it.
