The ultimate reason behind writing the paper is sharing my personal philosophy regarding leadership. I believe this leadership style will aid supervisors, peers, and subordinates understand the type of person I am and how my moral compass and experiences shape my decision making. The paper will more so cover leading through change, ethical challenges, empowering employees, power handling, adaptive leadership, and the relationship existing between followers, leaders, and teams. I hope the points discussed here will add trust to my actions while knowing where I am aiming to reach or head.

Selfless service involves my commitment to duty as well as putting the prosperity or welfare of the nation, my subordinates, and the values of the Air Force before personal gain. It’s this commitment that serves as the foundation to push one’s self to try a little harder and evaluate how I can add to the effort. Leadership is both an art and science, and in my opinion, will continuously evolve. Where many corporate businesses hire employees with certain skillsets deliberately, military leaders find themselves managing a volunteer force, a force which brings a myriad of personal experiences but must be trained and grown into technically-sound Airmen. Air Force leadership has continued to push the empowering-Airmen mantra, but this act might not come natural for some leaders who’re uncomfortable with giving up control. Even though it doesn’t come naturally, I continue to push myself to empower Airmen as a tool to stimulate a sense of pride in their performance, even if it means growth through trial and error. Through the use of evidence-based management, we’ll use our own missteps and the lessons learned from outside agencies to create a foundation of best practices and celebrate the collective brilliance of the unit.2 Through this mechanism, my goal is for the Airmen to feel empowered and intrinsically motivated towards improving
