The military has expanded its recruiting program to compete with the private sector and to lure qualified applicants into joining the organization. The United States military is extremely diverse, offering job opportunities and career progression to every applicant regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, or religious belief. Everyone that serves is given the same opportunity and benefits to be successful while serving their country. Diversity is important for any organization to have because it allows for a variety of perspectives, ideas, and experiences on the table, which can lead to creativity and innovation. Being a Navy recruiter myself, applicants always want to know what their benefits are going to be like. Retirement plans, medical benefits, educational benefits, and life insurance are particularly important to have. These benefits give the employees a sense of security and stability, attracting top talent and helping retain experienced personnel. These benefit packages ensure that the military members and their families have job security, financial security, and healthcare access. By providing military members with competitive packages, they will feel more valued and are more likely to continue serving their country and help with retention. Strong military benefit packages play a significant role when it comes to hiring and keeping employees. Applicants want to work for an organization that will benefit them and their families overall. Salary is important, but if the growth opportunity and benefit packages are not competitive, companies can struggle hiring new employees (Seemiller,
“Military leadership qualities are formed in a progressive and sequential series of carefully planned training, educational, and experiential events—far more time-consuming and expensive than similar training in industry or government. Secondly, military leaders tend to hold high levels of responsibility and authority at low levels of our organizations. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, military leadership is based on a concept of duty, service, and self-sacrifice; we take an oath to that effect.”

Being a military veteran can have both positive and negative effects on one’s ability to maintain a job and socialize with other people. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is usually a problem with soldiers coming back from war, although after a veteran recovers from it, it creates great job opportunities. Business leaders recognize how useful a military veteran is in the work force. Veterans tend to show great responsibility, leadership, and team work which make them the ideal employee for many jobs.
The Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, also known as the GI Bill of Rights (GI Bill), was signed into law on June 22, 1944, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (United States Department of Veterans Affairs, 2012). It was a pivotal point in history, which has impacted the United States socially, economically and politically. Today, educational benefits are primary tools used to recruit service members. In 2007-2008, about 4 percent of all undergraduates and about 4 percent of all graduate students were veterans or military service members (Radford, 2011). Furthermore, the recent expansions in benefits increase the use of education benefits by veterans will grow almost 5 percent (Simon, Negrusa, & Warner, 2009). To improve the success in higher education, veterans must ensure they keep updated on current educational assistance programs as well as other educational services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and their institutions.

The protection of our country is not overlooked for recruits; they are awarded many personal benefits as well. Tuition assistance, job training, and many benefits that help prepare recruits for occupations while enlisted. Not only are students getting great benefits, but they are also in a small group of professional workers. High School students should be allowed to join the military, because it is a way to pay for college expenses. College is expensive.
Leadership is contagious throughout the world and most importantly in the Army. It is not just my view, but of all leaders, at all levels, that organizations are responsible for setting conditions that lead to long-term organizational success. As I reflect on my experiences, through experience and observation, I realize how my values, beliefs, and perspectives about leadership continuously evolve over time. Recognizing these changes over time helps me better understand that people in organizations have different perspectives in life. This leadership narrative serve as important guiding principles for how I will lead at the organizational level and represents my thought, values and beliefs.
From the parent’s perspective, the military has much to offer for a child’s development. There are many opportunities children born in a military family get to experience that is beneficial to their development. The marine corps will help an individual further on his career by allowing the person to go to college or have colleges on bases. Specially “Officers earn promotion based on time in rank, successful performance in assignments and appropriate education” the Marine corps also have special school to teach warfare and leadership to the commanding officers, so they can be the best in the world. They can study abroad in Rome or in the Marine college which are both great honors for anyone that can enter. the rank also affects the salary a person may be earning; “as a marine corps officer a person may be paid from $35,000 to $200,000 a year depending on rank and also experience within the rank”, the more experience the more the money plus all the benefits that come from being in the marine (Marines pay ranks). The advantages of becoming a Marine, “far exceed a simple list of benefits: those who earn our title are supported by the Marine Corps brotherhood. Tangible benefits include financial resources, family healthcare and insurance, housing and facilities, education, travel, vacation, and recreation” these are the pretty good benefits considering some jobs do not even have benefits for its’ employees (Marines). This organization does worry about its employees to have the best they need. After completing all his service to the Marines, a fellow marine may retire, so the marines also have some benefits to the
Understanding the diversity in the U.S. Military is easiest if the numbers are looked at according to this nation’s population. American women account for fifty-one percent of the U.S. population and yet they only make up about sixteen percent of our uniformed officers throughout each branch of the military. The numbers are even fewer when looking at the number of women who have made a general officer rank. In the Army, only four percent of the generals are female, Navy admirals are seven percent, Air Force numbers are only nine percent, and the lowest number is the Marine Corps with three percent. (Sagalyn, 2011). The graph below shows the disparity in the numbers from each branch of the military and covers both active and reserve officers.
