Growing up as a child, I was the kid who grew up in church going every Sunday. Up until middle school, I just went to church and all the events like VBS and learned all the typical Bible stories. When it can for me to start middle school and transition into the youth group, at the time I was not too excited about it because I was scared and did not really have friends. Before I actually came into the youth group we had a transition of youth pastors during the summer. In that summer my older brother Brandon was already in the youth group and there was a mission trip happening that summer. To this day I am not really sure why I decided to go on the mission trip because it was people with the youth group and my best friends were not even going …show more content…
I am very glad I went on this trip because I got to really build new relationships with people in my church and I got to see the need of service. What really opened my heart and mind was during the devotionals we would have together as a church and alone. I had always seen God and Jesus just as things to know the stories of and believe in. However, during this time, something hit me and realized of real God was and the need to have a personal relationship with. This was the moment that really sparked my true interest in God and how I need to actively seek and act like Him. Ever since I started youth group and when we got our new youth pastor he has been a major influence and teacher in my life. He made going to youth group so much fun and really knew how to teach us about God and how to have a relationship with Him. The second major conversion point in my life was the first year our youth group went to TCTC ( Tennessee Christian Teen Convention). This was our first year going to this and I had never gone to something like that before so I had no idea what to expect. It involved a weekend full of worship, workshops, and
Last semester, I planned my first outreach event at the church. We had bounce houses, face painting, food, games, and candy. I worked so hard to get this put together and even members of the church used their own money to purchase things to make this event happened. There was door to door evangelizing going on in the surrounding neighborhoods to get the word out, and there were only two people in the community that showed up. Two people.
This experience was really out of my comfort zone. It was hard to be an outsider and not prepared for what was to come and not speaking one of the languages used to understand the entire service. This service learning project gave me the opportunity to try a new church and gain a deeper respect for a different religion. Everyone at the service was very educated on speaking the sacred texts and participating in the rituals practiced. I hope to have gained a better understanding for those who are new to religions and are nervous to come to a worship service. I will make more of an effort to be welcoming and accommodating to those who are new to our church.
It was strange, I had always wanted to experience what a mission trip was like. Although, when I thought about actually pursuing to go on one I would once again shove the thought in the back of my brain, in hopes of forgetting about it entirely. Until one day, I was reintroduced to the idea once again. My friend Nick and I were in Math class one day when Nick said, “
... been nourished at Grace Church and the Merge youth group, and I have been a part of the youth group at Northview Church as well. Taking apologetics through Anchors Away has fomented my faith, and I have made amazing friends both my age and adults who have guided and are guiding me through life. Most recently, I went on an evangelical trip to South Africa that completely changed my outlook on life and is currently challenging the path I had defined for myself.
I loved church. From belting "Father Abraham" to watching Gospel Bill videos to coloring pictures of David and Goliath, it was endless fun. The Sunday School teachers seemed immortal, and I loved talking to them, and I wanted to be just like them when I grew up. I learned to obey my parents and love my neighbor and speak in tongues. And of course I learned to love Jesus.
Our goal as a church was to go into another community and share the gospel with them but we did it in a unique way, through community service. Together we volunteered in a trailer park to clean up trash, fix gardens, redo roofing, paint and clean trailers. While doing this I meet an old woman who appreciated what we were doing for her and her home and wanted to know why. This gave my small group and I an opportunity to help guide her to Christ and when we left not only did we give her a better and beautiful community and trailer to live in, but we left her with a bible and a thirst to learn more about our God. This experience was important to me because it showed how one can truly make a difference in people’s lives just through serving
First, one great dislike was the distraction of children. To my understanding there is no division of children from adults or families, division meaning children ministry or Sunday school to keep children away whilst the pastor is preaching. The reasoning of dislike is because children can and will cause distraction from focusing on receiving the Word, with the noises, crying, fussing and desires of wanting to move and play. In addition, at Christ Fellowship with a children ministry we still share the love and message of Jesus Christ in age appropriate activity and sermon delivery, not only is it a fun environment but also still receiving the word of God just as the adults in the main auditorium. Secondly, as you enter Salvation Army you are welcomed and program handouts are given, the benefit of program handouts are the updated events and activities taking place in the organization, the biblical sections that will be discussed and general information of the organization.
For the past two summers I have traveled to Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico to work with Spectrum Ministries Inc., serve the city’s people, and share with them the love of Jesus Christ. The summation of people I’ve met, experiences I’ve had, and lessons I’ve been taught has allowed the city a permanent spot in my heart. Going on these mission trips require leaving my family and friends for weeks, leaping out of my comfort zone, and allowing myself to be stretch physically, mentally, and spiritually. In hindsight, giving up the amenities that I have grown so accustomed to having was a minute price to pay for the abundant reward I found in looking into the eyes and hearts of the people of Tijuana.
Vacation Bible School is an amazing program that gets kids invested in their faith. I was gifted the opportunity to guide preschoolers through their Vacation Bible School experience and watch them grow in their faith. Vacation Bible School takes place at Hales Corners Lutheran Church, where I am a member. I helped with the set-up of the camp as well as be a leader for two days of the camp. The theme this year was “Cave Quest” and it focused on using God to find your way through life. Everyday of camp we started with devotion and songs. This part of the day always had a powerful impact because you could see the excitement in the kids eyes just coming to camp to learn about God. Next, we would go do a craft. The first day we made crosses out
I was presented with this trip because of my work with the youth violence prevention initiative over the summer. This trip allowed me to hear from students all over the United States. While attending I had the privilege to network and join a new organization. The trip was a week long, it basically was a learning experience for me. I was able to see that my community wasn’t the only one to face problems with education or
Each of us had learned something from that trip. For me, this experience has taught me what gratitude is, the impact a good attitude has, what a servant looks like, and really how the relationships we make with our life are the most important aspect of life. It was the summer after my freshman year of high school. Earlier in the year, my parents had decided that they wanted to go on a mission trip as a family and serve somewhere.
Throughout my college experience, I have gone on multiple missions trips. I could say with confidence that I feel as
When I gave my life to Christ, my life began to be transformed passionately towards Him. My father is a pastor of a church in the area so my childhood was mostly spent running through the halls of the church on Sundays and Wednesdays trying not to get caught. In high school I was involved in the church music ministry. I was a drummer for the choir and worship team. Every time
Being the youth leader and the church admin has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of people and manage them equally, also it involves me listening to them and given them confidence in whatever they are going through at the time, also
It gave me the chance to see how other people worship or fulfill their spiritual need. I was able to see and get a better understanding of the things that go on. It seems that we all share the same goals. To be good people, listen and receive the Word of God and to go out and spread to other people what we have been
