From my extensive research on the projects and final essay I have become an expert on middle class inequality. I have researched varying viewpoints on why the middle class is declining and how the government must take action. I added this information to help enhance my essays. In my final essay I said “The next president Americans elect should be a Democrat. The Democrats have supported and implemented many programs that benefit middle class Americans. While the Republicans have ignored the middle class the Democrats have been fighting for them. The information I learned has helped enhance my essay and backup my main points. In my final essay I said “Democrats have been working to create affordable healthcare plans so that all Americans can have equal access to this necessity. Republicans on other hand, are trying to avoid the topic of income inequality. Bruce Bartlett, a former senior policy analyst for President Reagan said “Concern for inequality leads to redistribution, which all Republicans believe is evil (Income Inequality).” (pg 4). This has helped me have better knowledge on my topic as well as help support the main points in my essay. 2. From the image analysis essay to the final essay I was able to learn proper MLA citations and citing sources in my essay. I also learned how to correctly use a quote as a source. Next, I worked on integrating a source into a conversation. This can be seen in my synthesis essay when I said “Representative George Miller is a Democrat from California who serves on the House Education and the Workforce Committee. One program that he strongly supports and helped write out the policies for is the ‘Middle Class Jumpstart’ action plan. Representative George Miller said, "Middle-class working families need legislative solutions that work for them.” Representative Steve Israel is a Democrat from New York who is also in favor of rebuilding the middle class” (pg 3).     Other than learning how to argue (my boyfriend loves my new ability) I learned how to source my research using MLA format. This new skill is tremendously important in college because most professors, if not all, require their papers to be submitted using MLA format. Throughout my upcoming years at Valencia and then The University of Central Florida I will find writing papers significantly easier because sourcing will be practically second nature. In class we were taught how to use the in-text reference throughout our papers, build our own citation and how to set up our work cited page. Although in high school we used the MLA format for papers, prior to taking this class I hadn’t noticed how many small details go into the actual citation, the authors name is last name then first name, the commas must be in the proper place, page numbers etc. In some classes you “learn” how to do things however it is only stored in short term memory because you don’t consider it an important attribute or useful for future classes. Personally, I made sure I knew how to do MLA, every aspect of it, I reviewed the rules, did my assignments, and then reviewed my assignments in order to store this new skill in long term memory. By doing this I have successfully transferred the information to long term memory and made it into a skill.

    The main ideal that keeps public policy in America extremely limited compared to other democracies is the desire for less government, a more limited government. The strong American beliefs in individualism and equality result in this desire for limited government, and thus limited public policy. American government programs are much less ambitious than those of other industrialized democratic nations. Programs in health, welfare, housing, transportaion, and many other areas are much smaller and less ambitious (Kingdon: 44). This is a direct result of the American desire for limited government.
