Face to face interactions are becoming scarce do to many diverse devices. If someone was to look around next time they are on a bus or in a restaurant, the amount of people nose deep in their phones is ridiculous.
Some people are to busy with what is new on social media and do not care to make a conversation with the person next to them. More communication via technology is resulting in the loss of important social and communication skills. Social and communication skills are important in the interaction with others and are useful in everyday life. The use of constant technology is causing the loss of ability to be able to read body language and social cues in other people (25 Negative Effects of Technology). People need to be able to modify behavior in response to other people, and reading body language is an important part in doing this. The minds process of reading social cues involves the impact in the reduction of ambiguity and plays a role in intuition. According to Cambridge Dictionary, “Intuition is an ability to understand or know something without needing to think about it or use reason to discover it, or a feeling that shows this ability.” People are spending more time on devices and their interaction skills are diminishing. People are resorting to their devices and
avoiding human interaction because they do not know how to act. When people do not know how to interact with others, they resort back to their devices causing a comfort zone (Maher). Comfort zones can harm the cohesion of society as a whole. If everyone is in their own little comfort zone, how will society become united. The avoidance of these interactions are causing people to forget, or even learn, social skills. Melissa Ortega writes about how the lack of these skills may be harmful to younger people later in life. She says, “I can’t imagine these kids sitting down in an interview and having a reciprocal conversation easily.” If people can not have a fluent conversation with others, life will be tough for them. Society is all about making conversation with others and interating with them. Technological devices do not just hurt communication and social skill, they are also a big distraction.
