The media wasn't always in athletes ears during press conferences, after games and between practices telling them to help sell their products. Before technology allowed the media to take a part in athletes lives, sports professionals were making money solely off of their career earnings. As technology advanced and the media took a bigger role in these players lives, more opportunities for endorsements occurred. Along with these endorsement opportunities also came a lot of money. Michael Jordan was one of the first athletes to rise around the time the modern technology became available in the world. While fans were screaming and cheering as he put up thirty points a game, Jordan was focused on other things. Michael Jordan's astonishing success …show more content…
Jordan's first major film was a documentary called, “Come Fly With Me.” The film focused on how he came into the league and it looked into his college career and early NBA seasons. Over four million copies of the film were sold and it made over 80 million dollars in sales. The next production from Jordan came when he played a lead role the a movie, “Space Jam.” When Michael Jordan got involved in the movie Space Jam he became the first athlete to star in a Hollywood film. The movie featured Michael Jordan as a star basketball player who teams up with the Looney Toons to help them beat a overpowering team of aliens from a different planet. Jordan did that with the creation of the Jordan company. The Jordan brand was an extension of his contract with Nike and it was by far his best success. The Jordan Brand is his own collection of shoes and merchandise that he sells with his name on it. The company has major success and on average makes him over one hundred million dollars a year. (Chase par 2). The Jordan brand had many big impacts, one being that it made Jordan a businessman and not just a player. It also had a lasting impact because it allows Jordan to still make millions of dollars a year and he hasn't picked up a basketball to play in over a decade. One last impact the creation of the Jordan brand had was that it gave athletes today opportunities to join. Jordans brand is unique because he will sign current basketball players like Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook to wear his shoes. This contributes to Jordan's success for advertizing business because he is making money from people wanting to buy his shoe to be like star players, and he is also giving current players opportunities to sign endorsements at the same

In the history of business, there has been a clear record of industry heads finding something or someone as a mainstay and bedrock for their respective companies or corporations; there is often a chief product that keeps many businesses afloat, even in the rough times. Apple found it's own in 2001 with the iPod. McDonald's has had the Big Mac since the late 1960s. Nike, however, found their goldmine in a person with Michael Jordan. Walter LaFeber's Michael Jordan and the New Global Capitalism tells the paints the picture of the rise of young Michael Jordan from his middle-class family in racist North Carolina up through college and into the NBA where he becomes an international sports icon. It tells the story of how Jordan catches the eye of Nike's ambitious co-founder and CEO, Phil Knight, and how he was transformed from a young, rebellious black hoopster into the face of a multi-billion dollar transnational corporation while stretching its touch all of the way to the far reaches of Asia. LeFeber's book also delves into the darker issues and topics addressing Jordan and Nike, such as race and sports and how they played a part during scandals that surrounded MJ off of the court along with the growth of Nike abroad and their dealing with technological changes in manufacturing while facing criticism for their labor practices.
Steve Nash is considered one of the greatest point guards in the first decade of NBA, and he already became a national hero in Canada based on his tremendous achievement as a professional basketball player. However, according to his interview, Nash was considered a player without sufficient talent to be even a good college player in the United States. No college was willing to offer him a scholarship initially, because he was a Caucasian player from Canada. Caucasian players were widely considered as athletic inferior to African players, and Canada was also considered a country that has few talented basketball players. This is a typical stereotype about Caucasian basketball players in NBA, and usually

That shows how much Mc Donald?s has an affect on U.S. With Michael Jordan, advertising and supporting McDonalds then everyone will notice him and realize who he is. Nike is a footwear company, which thousands of Americans purchase there shoes each day. When Jordan came to the NBA, he signs a contract with Nike worth $30mil (Jordan Michael Bio). He created the shoes called ?Air Jordan?s? and created a line of shoes called ?Jordan?s? which made him very famous. Nike?s profits upped 20% through 1984-1986 helping them to be the dominate shoe company in America (?The Best Frequent Flyer?). Still in 2007 His brand of shoes are still making money in stores everywhere around the U.S. Nike sold more Air Jordan?s than any basketball shoe ever made (?Sports Illustrated For Kids?).

...er Jason Taylor “Team Jordan is something I wanted to do my whole career. Michael exemplifies everything that I think an athlete should be. The desire the competitiveness, everything about the man says winner and that’s what I’m about.” The hard work and desire Jordan put forth in order to achieve his dreams is well documented, and he has used this as the main focus in advertising his clothing line. By using other sports superstars who have achieved great things, he has been able to capture the attention of the sporting world. Once you put on the shoes and the clothing, you will begin to expect great things out of yourself. These goals come only after dedication and effort. Showing the work ethic of other great athletes and the thoughts that motivate them, Jumpan23 has successfully captured the idea of its clothing line. One has to look no further than the miniature symbol of a man flying through the air in order to imagine the possibilities and see what makes this advertisement so appealing.

Michael Jordan, portrayed by Jim Naughton in the biography Taking To The Air: The Rise of Michael Jordan, is well regarded as not only the greatest basketball player of all time but also the face of a generation. During the mid to late 1980s NBA basketball was simply treading water. As a result of the lack of a marketable superstar, the NBA was losing popularity to the National Football League and Major League Baseball. Following Jordan’s emergence, the NBA’s attendance rose dramatically and it’s worldwide popularity skyrocketed. Michael Jordan returned basketball to its past popularity in the United States and revolutionized the way the world viewed the game of basketball. (Harriman) Michael Jordan’s life is succinctly depicted in Taking to The Air: The Rise of Michael Jordan. Jim Naughton focuses on Jordan’s influence on worldwide sports and culture as one of the most publicized and marketed athletes of all time. Like Kirkus Reviews, I too believe that Naughton’s work goes into great description about Jordan’s upbringing and later career while also examining his cultural impact. Throughout his life, Michael Jordan has topped the sports and entertainment worlds by becoming the greatest basketball pl...
In 2008, Michael Jordan made his 200th wish to Make-A-Wish foundation. The CEO of the Make-A-Wish foundation even stated that, “Michael Jordan is one of the all-time greatest athletes, but he is an even better person,” said David Williams, “He has changed the lives of hundreds of wish kids and their families for the better, and for that, we are forever grateful” (Christensen). If the CEO of Make-A-Wish can say that Michael Jordan is a better person than a basketball player, and then he must be quite the person considering how dominate of a player Jordan was.
