The Meth Project website was created to reduce the use of the drug methamphetamine through public service messages, public policy and community outreach. The program, while focused on teenagers, reaches out to all ages. The website is full of information such as statistical data, intimate stories and many community service projects. The Meth Project’s edgy advertising documents the downward spiral that is caused by the use of the drug. While some may find the Meth Project advertisements unpleasant, they portray the story of the incredible power of meth and its effects on the human body. The advertisement techniques used by the Meth Project to reach an audience are effectively horrific. The Dig advertisement portrays a young woman that has open sores on her face and arms. One can see the blood on the young woman’s fingertips and she picks at an open sore. The disturbing scene could make one think that it is straight out of a horror movie. Her eyes portray a look of fear, anxiety and distrust. There is an unmade bed in the background surrounded by dirty clothes. The room appears to be grimy, dingy and rundown. The scene promotes a chilling tone and evokes feelings of disgust and negativity. Looking at the picture could make a person’s skin feel dirty. There is nothing of sentimental value in the room such as family pictures or jewelry. The caption in the advertisement reads Will Meth Make Me Dig at My Own Skin? (Dig). These words seem to jump out from the picture and can linger on the mind for a long time. The manner in which the Meth Project reaches out to an audience can easily be discerned by the use of the age of its model. She appears to have been at one time a healthy person. The left side of advertisement is in a troubled ... ... middle of paper ... ...and will work among the younger crowd; however, this can apply to a person of any age group. The Meth Project’s goal is simple and profound which is to prevent one person from trying meth for the first time. Their website is filled with an abundance of different types of advertising. A person may feel slightly bothered by the way The Meth Project portrays the use of this life-changing drug; however, the drug is a quick and easy way to an early grave for most people that try it. This article’s target is to raise alertness, give caution, and create comedy about the often-misleading advertisement industry. Through convincing writing techniques the onion uses exaggeration, scientific data and medical explanation, to make fun of an everyday advertisement. The writer(s) also create a methodical and noticeable satirical piece of literature.
Then the viewer understands that this advertisement is about marijuana. In this advertisement, Pathos, which is used for emotional appeal, is embedded efficiently. Also, it is the best choice for this anti-drug ad and more suitable than ethos or logos because appealing to a person’s character or logic does not work so much for the marijuana addicts. That is why this image successfully persuades people to disregard the risks of marijuana. First, the ad tells the story of an accident that was caused by a person who smoked weed.
It is clear that most DTC advertisements in the pharmaceutical industry easily approach consumers and inject distorted information about drugs into them. DTC advertisements provide clarity in product performance claims, with less reliance on implied benefits (Beltramini 574). Furthermore, DTC advertisements have made a huge impact on public consciousness with constant exposure to their consumers and sell less effective drugs (Lurie 445). Consumers do not recognize the danger of ineffective drugs due to the embellishment of the marketing strategy. Zelnorm, a drug for women with irritable bowel syndrome, is an example of how a highly visible television advertising campaign makes this less effective drug popular. From a pharmaceutical company’s analysis, while 0.1 percent of patients treated with the drug had a heart attack, chest pain, or a stroke and one died, patients taking a placebo had 0.01 percent of these symptoms and none died. Despite inefficiency of the drug, it became a popular treatment for irritable bowel syndrome because of television advertisement campaign; it displays attractive young women whose bellies are inscribed with the catchphrase, "I feel better" (Shuchman 2239). The reason that ineffective drugs, such as Zelnorm, became popular is because most people who have not enough knowledge to evaluate drugs
We used this strategy and targeted all students, both male and female, in the video since in this period in history it would be offensive if we directed the ad specifically towards males, following the stereotype of the “problematic boy”. Another persuasive technique we used was appealing to the dramatic benefits of the post-treatment of adderall by having a student imitate exaggerated behaviors of short attention span and impulsive nature that resulted in poor grades. Then after the same student takes adderall, he portrays a completely different character and becomes very attentive and productive in his studies, which results to an A in his next assignment. This is critical in Singh’s “Not Just Naughty: 50 years of stimulant drug advertising”, as he emphasizes how drug advertisements commonly present a post-treatment normal reality of a highly idealized “portrait of an ideal family—bright, attractive, well behaved, in control, White, middle class” (Singh, 145).... ...
Frontline’s “The Meth Epidemic,” is a shocking documentary that exposes the dangerous effects of meth and explores the cultural patterns related to meth addiction. Understanding the severity of the effects of meth and how it is made are two important lessons to take away from this video because understanding those two things will help us to better understand how to combat this epidemic. Two effects of meth addiction are an increase in property crimes and an increase in the number of children entering foster care. Shockingly, half of the inmates in Portland jails were meth users, and meth addicts commit 80% of the property crimes in Oregon. These statistics show how meth can not only negatively affect an individual and a family, but a whole community.

The reason behind my thinking of the ad with the victim as the main point is that the image is right in your face the second that you see the ad. You see a person missing half of their face

...t they show has influenced many people never to try meth and they should try doing that with all the other drugs in the world to influence everyone about that. In conclusion, we face a silent epidemic that we have to inform the people that think that drugs are not bad for you and think there are no risks in taking them.
Partnership for a Drug-Free America’s “Pot Surgeon” advertisement video depicts a nightmarish scene. “Pot Surgeon” uses a slightly unrealistic scenario and uses people of authority or high respect to make a point. The advertisement uses various lighting, coloring, and sound elements to manipulate the audience response. The use of such techniques is in an attempt to cause the audience unease. “Pot Surgeon” uses strong emotional appeals to raise varying levels of fear and distress in its audience in order to motivate him/her to reconsider any positive views towards the use of marijuana.
The prostitution in which she participates doesn't seem consensual or even safe, never mind legal. What she says about her boyfriend contradicts everything he seems to be doing for her. As a teenager, she's hardly experienced in romance and relationships and is loyal to her boyfriend regardless of the actions he takes in spite of his addiction. The goal of the project is to promote awareness about meth addiction. Each ad shows the harsh reality that comes with addiction that many people may overlook. They want you think twice about the life you may enter before experimenting with drugs. But this ad touches on another important subject, rather it was intended or not. Who would ever talk so lovingly about the person who made them sell sex for drug money. She states, "He takes care of me" which he doesn't seem to doing much of since his priority is the drugs he's obtained. These are textbook examples of abuse. Drug abuse and relationship abuse often come hand in hand. The growing problem with relationship abuse can be equally concerning to the growing problem with meth
