The realistic fiction book, Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, by Matthew Dick, was very heartwarming and enjoyable. This book takes place in the town and world of young Max Delaney around the year 2013. The story is told from the point of Max's imaginary friend Budo who goes with Max to school and even wanders on his own to have his own adventures. This book's conclusion will warm and break your heart. The book happens in the time span of a few months with days skipped over. They main characters of this book are Max and Budo. While the story follows Max it is told by Budo making them the main characters. Max is 8-9 years old and he imagined Budo when he was only 4. Some people say Max has Asperger's but Max's dad says that he is just a ¨late bloomer¨ (Dick, 16). Budo has been alive for 5 years and looks like a human unlike most imaginary friends. Max imagined him ¨much older than him. Probably a teenager,¨ (Dick 5). Some of the other characters included Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Gosk, and Max’s parents. Mrs. Patterson is Budo’s least favorite of Max’s teachers. She is a paraprofessional, …show more content…
Like Max I sometimes relied on my imaginary friends for company and even played games with them like Max does. Near the end of the book Budo has to choose to do the right thing for Max or for himself. I feel like this is a common problem in movies or books with someone having to pick between helping themselves or helping someone else. This also happens often in real life which for me, makes the book or movie seem more realistic. Almost all the books I have read have had this dilemma in them but it is often obvious what the character with choose. For example in Harry Potter you can be certain that Harry will choose to save his friends but in this book it makes you question what choose the character will make I recommend this book to kids in middle school who are a bit more mature, that enjoy having a book touch their

In the novel, I learned the with Great Friendship that it would be much easier to achieve anything, and with great determination, you could achieve anything. This shows that with a little friendship, and hard work, you can achieve anything that you want to. I would say after reading this book, that without friendship you can never have a better life, than the one Freak and Max and after all the two kids with no friends became two of the best friends you could ever
I am writing about the book The Magician’s Nephew. It is by C.S. Lewis and it is part of the Chronicles of Narnia series. This book is about two children who go on an unexpected adventure. At the beginning of this book, a young boy, Digory, learns that he has a new neighbor next door. The new next door neighbor is a family with a daughter named Polly. One day, they are both playing in their own backyards. Digory wants to meet the new neighbor so he says hello. She says hello. They start talking but their talk soon becomes an argument. Polly finally apologized when he told her about his sick mother and having to stay with his aunt and his mad uncle. After they made up, they became good friends and played together almost all the time. One time

...h is why fantasy is necessary for children in succeeding through a quest for sanity and morality. Through what is essentially known as escaping reality, children such as the character Max can further bring themselves to understand what they are feeling by unconsciously thinking about it in an imaginative way. Projecting certain personalities into characters in a way that accurately relates to Max is a prosperous way to develop a reassured idea in his life, between himself and the relationships around him. Thus, effortlessly reaching a sense of sanity and morality after all, “Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It’s a way of understanding it.” (Lloyd Alexander)
The type of narration, the plot’s rising action, and the overall imprint that is left on the reader, pushes this book above and beyond. Whaley creates a picture for the reader by using third- person omniscient point of view. This method helps the reader better understand the main characters. The rising action development was extremely easy to follow. The descriptions of the characters and the background information helps explained how the story was laid out. Also, the author seemed like he wanted the reader to realize the purpose of the three-way friendship. It represented how a relationship allows everyone to learn from their flaws and unwarranted decisions from other’s reactions. This book is truly unique, from the composure to the character’s
One literary device Rodman Philbrick uses the reveal the theme of the importance of friendship is characterization, what Max thinks. In the story when the first
While many obstacles get in the way of friendship, true friendship still lives, even in silence. In the book, The Chosen , By Chaim Potok, two boys, Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, who are very religiously different and both raised in completely opposite ways, develops a deep friendship. Their friendship opens up their worldview to many other different viewpoints in life. The friendship between these two boys is one with great religious significance, starting off with destiny and Gods will. As Danny and Reuven’s Friendship develops, it teaches them to respond wisely to the values of the more complex and secular world. It also teaches the true value of friendship. Because Danny’s father, Reb Saunders, raised Danny in silence, Danny and Reuven’s relationship was also a way that Reb Saunders could talk to his son, through Reuven. There friendship grows and they become closer and closer.
“Choose your friends wisely,” my mother told me as a child. One’s friends are a reflection of who one is. Therefore, I value honesty, loyalty, and compassion in my friendships. These qualities are valued in Chaim Potok’s novel The Chosen. He develops the unlikely friendship between Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, two teenage boys who live very different yet similar lives. Through their growth both individually and as friends, Potok conveys that honesty, loyalty, and compassion are qualities that should be valued in all relationships, especially friendships.
She doesn’t know this, but she changed my life. She was there for me when it seemed like no one else was. When most of my friends were dissolving around me and I just didn’t feel like I could do anything right, she was there, and she made everything seem okay. It didn’t matter that I was inevitably going to graduate with a GPA a tenth of a point lower than I wanted, or that my director told me that he was disappointed in me because I just didn’t seem focused lately, or that my other friends just weren’t talking to me anymore. It didn’t matter because she was there and she made me feel safe. She’s my best friend, and I love her and admire her for so many different reasons.
...but rather its real life. This book presents so many range of problems almost anyone could read this. There is nothing I didn’t enjoy and I would recommend this to ages 12-
