“Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my soul”. – Jim Valvano

Billie Holiday, or as her friends called her “Lady Day” was an African-American jazz singer who had a phenomenal voice. She was born April 7, 1915, in Philadelphia, PA. In her late teenage years she was discovered by John Hammond and recorded her first record led by a studio group under Benny Goodman, who was a prominent figure in the entertainment business.
Patients who are diagnosed with the disease have an 85 percent survival rate if they receive chemotherapy. She does not want to go through with the treatment advised by her physicians. Due to her age, Cassandra cannot legally make that decision and it is left up to her parents to decide course of treatment. Her parents are in agreement with Cassandra but the hospital is in disagreement with their decision and opts to take the case to court. (Macklin, 2015, p.1)
“Don’t tell me you’re one of those people who becomes their disease. I know so many people like that. It’s disheartening. Like, cancer is in the growth business, right? The taking-people-over business. But surely you haven’t let it succeed
Isn’t it overwhelming to consider the fact that approximately one in eight deaths in the world are due to cancer? To make this more comprehensible, the number of deaths caused by cancer is greater than caused by AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. Along with the idea that this disease does not have a definite cure is a mind-staggering concept to grasp. If not caught in time, cancer means guaranteed death. These types of thoughts were floating around my head when my mother had told me that my father had mouth cancer.

Ela Stein is one of the most famous speakers who talks about her time during the Holocaust. Ela Stein was eleven years old in February of 1942 when she was sent to Terezin concentration camp with other Czech Jews(Rubin, Flap). Ela was transported with her mother, sister, grandmother, and her Uncle Otto. Once they got to Terezin a guard ordered them to get off the train, and they had to walk the last couple miles. As they approached the wooden gate of Terezin and the doors closed behind them they knew that were locked up.When they were separated into different barracks Ela’s grandmother was sent to one barrack, her Uncle Otto was sent to a barrack for men, and then Ela and her sister stayed in the same barrack with their mother. Ela remembers that when she went into the barrack that it was so cold and there were people layed there sick and dying from disease and hunger. (Rubin). One night Ela went out to the corridor and heard the sound of prayers. Below in

“The word 'leukemia' is a very frightening word. In many instances, it's a killer and it's something that you have to deal with in a very serious and determined way if you're going to beat it” - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Many people, including tons of children, fight leukemia every day trying to beat this vicious cancer. Without knowing how leukemia is exactly caused, it puts a damper on how to avoid it.
Leukemia like any other cancer is devastating especially when it affects children and especially when they are too young to understand most of what is happening to their bodies. Facts like these are what should be used to motivate researchers and caregivers to help to make the process of treatment and care for patient dealing with disease one that is pleasant and supportive. The research should be taken seriously and it is hoped that in the future a cure can be found and the cause of the disease can be explained. It is also hoped that achievements like those can give families who are coping with disease or who have lost loved ones to the disease can find closure and solace in knowing that other may not have to go through what they have.
Cancer is a deadly disease that millions of people die from a year. Many loved ones are killed with little to no warning affecting families across our world. My family happened to be one that was affected by this atrocious disease. This event changed the way my family members and I viewed cancer.
To be elected into a power of importance here in America and be trusted to make good decisions here in the land of the free, how can they say no to having immigrants here? Are the immigrants the ones shooting up schools? Are the immigrants the ones shooting up cops? No they are not it is the born and pure breed Americans that are tearing this country apart. With all that is wrong with our country i can stand tall and say the majority of the immigrants are not doing anything wrong. I have watched several videos now on what they are having to go though simply because they wanted a better life. They are working very hard to stay in this country and make a difference here. To then pick them up and cuff them like some criminal because they weren

There is no penalty for getting caught. Now, don’t cross this river, hear?” How smart is that? We’re baiting them. It’s like putting out a salt lick and then complaining when deer come. Immigrant parents would be irresponsible not
He doesn't understand that everyone in American had to once immigrate here His wife is an "immigrant" who came to do the job no "American" wanted to do His gold locks that he obsesses over is like a carpet glued to his head
It was Dr. Quill’s observation that “she was an incredibly clear, at times brutally honest, thinker and communicator.” This observation became especially cogent after Diane heard of her diagnosis. Dr. Quill informed her of the diagnosis, and of the possible treatments. This series of treatments entailed multiple chemotherapy sessions, followed by a bone marrow transplant, accompanied by an array of ancillary treatments. At the end of this series of treatments, the survival rate was 25%, and it was further complicated in Diane’s case by the absence of a closely matched bone-marrow donor.
No matter who it happens to, any type of cancer is heart-breaking. However, one’s heart seems to crack a little bit deeper when you hear a child has been diagnosed. Several forms of cancer can arise during childhood. The most common is acute lymphoblastic/lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). In fact, it is so common between the ages 0-14, that people refer to it as childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Kanwar, 2013). .
