In her article, “Lecture Me. Really”, Molly Worthen addresses the issue college students know all too well: how to lecture properly. Published in the New York Times, Worthen writes a passionate article about lecturing but from the perspective of a professor. Worthen presents the idea that lecturing, although some may think ineffective in the classroom, is a way to truly challenge and engage students into critically thinking. Worth dictates this idea with an excellent build up logical argument but lacks the proper evidence to support her claims creating a faulty argument.
While reading “ Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, many opinions can be formed of Chris McCandless. One, in particular, was the author's opinion which he blatantly stated on page 85. He didn't think that Chris was some reckless foolish insane idiot. He believed that competent otherwise he wouldn't have lasted so long. I agree with Krakauer, things Chris did on this journey did not show signs of some careless person. Chris was just an adventurer looking to get away from the expectations society had of him to see the world for what it really was.

Today I received a referral from a family who is seeking help regarding their dysfunctional family structure. The Simpson’s are a nuclear family that is having difficulties living as a family. I have already spoken to Marge Simpson and agreed to find a way to get her husband and children to therapy. She has very high aspirations of attending therapy with her family because she has longed for a “normal” functioning family in which her husband and children interact in a much healthier manner than they do now. She described her husband of being careless, her son uncontrollable ate times, and her daughters disconnected from the family. We have set up the meeting for next week, Wednesday at six, when she believed her family would be more willing to attend and actually participate in the therapy session.
In this paper I will explain Judith Thomson’s argument that abortions are not morally wrong under the condition that the fetus is considered a person. By setting this condition, Thomson advances the argument on why abortions are morally permissible by getting past the triviality of whether the fetus is a person or not. Charlotte Alter, a writer for TIME Magazine, published the article, The Problem With Pit Bulls, which speculated that pit bulls needed to be sterilized because they were dangerous and aggressive. Alter’s argument was one example of the unjust discrimination against pit bulls that caused several people to fear the breed. Alter’s argument started with an anecdote about a three year old girl, who had been attacked by a pit bull, who got kicked out of KFC due to the “disruption” that her battered face caused. The story was later proven to be a hoax. The article then focused on the reasons and statistics of pit bulls’ violent nature. Although Alter’s argument had numerous sources to support her claims, her argument is ineffective and flawed due to her use of polarization, bias, and oversimplification.

This is a topic that is popular in today’s world of competition and professional sports. The claim to allow performance enhancing drugs is difficult to make people agree with you because the media always displays them as bad and they never say the positive benefits of these drugs. Since it is difficult to get people to believe and agree with your claim by pitching a well-constructed argument. Sisson presents a good argument by using strategies of persuasion such as ethos, pathos, and logos developed by Aristotle.
Educational budget cuts are hitting children’s passions in a negative way. School, teachers, and extra activities are a safe place for some children. Lynda Barry is showing how school can be a safe place for children, like it was for her. School and teachers can save children from their negative home life. In Barry’s essay she shows how school was her safe place, and how educational budget cuts are bad. Lynda Barry’s position that educational budget cuts are bad is correct, because for some children school and teachers the only safe place they have, extra school activities can help keep troubled children off the streets, and educational budget cuts may take a child’s passion away such as music, arts, sports, and so on.

No matter who you ask, it is evident that the topic of abortion is very controversial. In Judy’s situation, being a fifteen year old sophomore, getting pregnant unexpectedly and not being able to talk to her parents about the situation, I believe that abortion is the right way to go. Although for Judy to get an abortion in her state she needs parental consent because she is a minor. I don't agree that states should require parental consent for minors to have an abortion. There are many teens that have the same situation as Judy and if you can’t care for your child you shouldn't put him or her through suffering while you try to provide.
