Meaning And Significance Of Jesus Christ: Who Is Jesus Christ

Who is Jesus Christ? What has he done to enable salvation from sin? What is the meaning and significance of what he has done? To begin to answer the question “Who is Jesus Christ,” I feel that it is extremely important to understand how our current society sees Him and Christianity. To be blunt and completely honest, we live in a society that does not tolerate prejudice. We can no longer ridicule ethnic groups such as African American Leaders who spend more time spreading poison and hatred than helping alleviate the real problem at hand. In my home town the Washington Redskins have been making headlines because their name offends Native Americans and our society feels that it is wrong to support public pillorying by keeping this historic name.

Jesus is more than a prophet, an awesome teacher, and a godly man. Jesus is the Son of God. The Jesus I know is nothing short of amazing. He is amazing in the Bible just as He is amazing in my life. My Jesus changes peoples live in ways I can only imagine. We can read countless times throughout the Bible where Jesus stood out in ways that were not so pleasing to the people around Him. Today just as yesterday people do not know how to take Him. He turned water into wine. He disregards any type of social and racial gender. He is the way, the truth, and the life. And He is the exact reason I can have something far greater than I deserve. No matter how many scars others around me can see from wounds that I have suffered and continue to suffer, my God is an AWESOME God and without Him in my life, I am not sure how I could function. In fact, I am not sure how I functioned at all before He saved me from myself. Jesus’ sufferings and death on the cross redeems the sins of the whole world, both original and actual. There is no other ground of salvation from sin but this alone. This atonement is sufficient for every individual of our race and is how He enables salvation from sin. Hebrews 9:22-23 says: In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. It was necessary, then for the copies of the heavenly things be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. The sacraments of the Old Testament was never part of God’s ultimate plan. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. (Hebrews 10:4) Hebrews tells us that once and for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Roman crucifixion is one of the most painful deaths imaginable.
