CSR is a broad management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns into their business operations and interactions with stakeholders. CSR covers many various topics: human rights, health and safety, environmental effects, working conditions, and economic development. As broad as this may be, the consistent purpose of CSR is to drive change towards sustainability. The word “sustainable” is in McKesson’s mission statement as it reflects the aims and values of their corporation. As McKesson’s website explains, “we’re experiencing an era of unprecedented change in health care. New technology, new services, and new ideas will be needed to deliver improved outcomes for businesses and patients.” Health care definitely falls under CSR and the improvements in the technology of healthcare are what drive change towards sustainability. McKesson Corporation has developed two acronyms for the shared principles that guide them, also known as, “ICARE” and “ILEAD.” “ICARE” stands for, Integrity, Customer-first, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. “ILEAD” stands for, Inspire, Leverage, Execute, Advance, and Develop. These principles unite their employees, connecting them across business units, locations and functional areas. Following these values is what enables employees to make a positive difference in the

It would be an awesome day in history if the healthcare industry could mimic restaurant chains business practice of combining quality control, cost control, and innovation. Even though it’s a great gesture from a patient’s perspective, there is no way that healthcare could even come close to such models of restaurant business practices. Why is that? Well, a restaurant is more predictable than any health care sector. First, restaurants are able to plan and coordinate their business practice to meet the needs of their customers. Secondly, they can control inventory and certify quality meals at an affordable price. Additionally, they can predict how many customers will

Over the last 5 years the healthcare system has begun to transform. This transformation includes a focus change to preventative care to the new health conscious consumers and the reduction of healthcare costs (PR Newswire, 2013). This change comes from the consumers of healthcare as well as new laws such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). This has created a need for hospitals to enter in partnerships to create hospital systems such as Centura Health. These hospital systems are expanding the continuum of care to include everything from preventative care, emergency care, and finally end-of-life care. This creates a need to monitor competition and create ideation plans to increase likelihood the consumer will use Centura Health over the competitors.
If I was to become the CEO of a large health care organization, I would investigate and analyze all the information to determine what needs to be improved within the organization in order to make the best decision for the company. There are three major elements of quality: structure, process, and outcome”(Burns, Bradley, & Weiner, 2011, pg 251). One way to improve the quality of care in my organization is to be passionate and excited about the engagement of consumers. The patients need to be able to have access to the right information to educate themselves about their health care decisions. If they are active working with the physicians it can reduce emergency hospital visits and improve treatment and quality of life that is associated with different chronic diseases (Aulbach, 2015). As for my staff, I would ensure that they have all the equipment as well as the

Formed in 1998, the Managed Care Executive Group (MCEG) is a national organization of U.S. senior health executives who provide an open exchange of shared resources by discussing issues which are currently faced by health care organizations. In the fall of 2011, 61 organizations, which represented 90 responders, ranked the top ten strategic issues for 2012. Although the issues were ranked according to their priority, this report discusses the top three issues which I believe to be the most significant due to the need for competitive and inter-related products, quality care and cost containment.

The company shows a flat organization in which there are few layers of management but has broad span of control. According to the chart, the company develops a decentralized authority in the level of their management due to which they focus more on adapting to what customer wants based on decision making from the lower level managers who are more familiar in the local conditions. This type of authority allows them to understand customers such as patients’ needs in order to develop strategies to fulfill this requirement According to Figure 1, they primarily focus more on the health care system and invested in about $7.5 billion dollars in research and development to create a strong product portfolio. The culture of this organization demonstrates a formal organization in order to guide the lines of authority as well as the responsibility for the company. According to Johnson and Johnson Credo statement, their main focus is towards the responsibilities of the doctors, nurses, and patients as well as their employees. They also state their growing responsibilities toward the shareholders and to the communities in order to research and develop new innovations in towards civic improvement to the communities. There are now several concepts of CSR and its definition, along with the meaning across corporations. In my opinion, and according with our textbook in page 11. CSR is about a particular set of business and strategies that deal with social issues. In addition, we can clearly perceive that CSRs application along corporations has increase in the past decade due to the several local, and international regulations in order to enforce business to act responsible.
According to World business council for sustainable development 2000, CSR is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to sustainable economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as the local community and society at large.
