I went to the Maumee council meeting Monday at 7:30pm. When just before the meeting start two families and a boy scout troop walked in very loudly. Mr. Kissinger, a council member, had to go get a salad which he ate while the meeting was going on.Every council member was present along with the Mayor and council president I known this because there was a roll call by last name. To begin a male and female took the oath of office to become Maumee patrol officers. The Chief and his wife was there along with some other officers that had the afternoon shift to support the new patrol officers. After they all left with their families, the meeting start to get extremely boring. For the first time in years there was 24 different issues that they voted …show more content…
Then a council member would talk about what they recommend the council would do which was mostly emergency legislation. Each topic has a letter from the alphabet assigned to it. For example D was on the Topic of the authorization to enter into an agreement for professional engineering services relative to the Dussel/Salisbury corridor signal program modifications project. A woman called every member of the council by their last name, this is the time either they can say rather the agreed with the topic at hand with a simple yes or no. I noticed how respectful the council was with each other. They all waited for the Mayor to address them with a Mr., a Mrs., or President. They responded with a thank you Mayor before they started talking about the topic. Even though they was respectful they also like to have fun there were a few moments were they laughed. The Mayor also addressed us and explain that they were moving so fast because the topics already went from committees then administer and finally the council votes. The Mayor announced the hearing of the public. This is the time for the member of the community can talk about 3 minutes per
Mayor Nutter associates himself with the Mount Carmel Baptist Church, which he has attended for the past 25 years. Followed by saying that the church choir got a lot better once he left the choir 20 years ago. His intent in using this strategy effected the congregation by making them feel like they all are part of one big happy family. So much that, they welcomed and looked forward to hear the rest of his speech.
Milagro is a small agricultural town located in the hot arid state of New Mexico. Joe Mondragon, a man of his mid 30's, provided for his wife and two kids. He was a farmer, but a farmer with no fields. During the 1935 Interstate Water Compact, much of the water was transferred to big-time farmer's fields, like Ladd Devine. This would not have been a problem except for the fact that Joe's field was located on the west side of Milagro and all of the water flowed to the southeast side. All of the people of Milagro were unhappy about this change, but no one would say or do anything that would oppose the Devines. One day, Joe had had enough and tapped into the water supply. He knew that watering his father's field would cause problems, but he didn't care. Day after day Joe worked in his fields, preparing them for harvest. People from all the town gathered each day to watch Joe work. While Joe worked on his fields, the Devines worked on a plan to get rid of him. They did not like the idea that Joe Mondragon, a simple farmer, had not conformed to their ways. The Devines involved several various people in order to get rid of Joe, but all of these people could not stop Joe from obeying his morals. Bernabe Montoya, the Milagro town sheriff, and Sheriff Kyril Montana, a government officer, were assigned the duty of arresting Joe. They worked hard and diligently to arrest him, but time after time, they failed.
After witnessing the older gentleman give a piece of his mind to the mayor, I was hoping for more residents to stand up and demand action from their local government. I wanted people to step up and tell the local government that some of ...
The Phoenix City Council meeting stood packed with attendees ranging from council men and women, lawyers, (basically elderly) interested citizens, neighborhood representatives, owners of businesses, and many others firm on playing a undeviating role in the due process of local government. The meeting began with an invocation from the pastor of a local church invited to pray by the Mayor Stanton. Then following was a pledge to the flag and then the mayor carries the motion. The Mayor reads for the council while passing them several agendas. This series of formalities set the tone for the arrangement and flow of the summit as a whole. Things steered quickly and professionally thanks to the succinct language of both the City Clerk and the Mayor, who led the agenda of the assembly. In general, each agenda entry was introduced by the Clerk, and then led through the agenda by Mayor, who asked for each item’s approval by the Council. The executive order of the agenda acted mostly as a general guideline, as the meeting swerved from the stated order with relative occurrence. Instead of a stringent order, the items seemed to be litigated first, in terms of how straightforwardly they might be permitted. Entire swathes of application were approved if the Council did not obtain any requests for dialogue concerning the item, and if the Council was expected to endorse the item unanimously. In theory, most of these items had already been hashed out in the various other committees through which any agenda item must pass before reaching the City Council.
The issue with typical public hearings is, not everyone can attend, and not everyone who attends speaks. The first problem should have been alleviated by the fact questionnaire asking what times and dates worked best for the community in the photo questionnaire and set up the public hearing accordingly. The second part is more difficult to deal with, not everyone is comfortable speaking in public, or even at the community gathering they may not be comfortable coming up to strangers to voice their concerns. So, when everyone arrives on their way into the hearing a small survey will be given to them that also provides space for them to write down their concerns. This survey will not only gauge preference, but will also be asking some personal questions about age, race, and sex so that there can be an accurate measure of who showed up to the public hearing and different concerns of different subcultures. This survey will provide data that can be utilized in the future, that is more accurate than simply writing down what everyone says during the public hearing. For the public hearing, there will be multiple different design approaches shown that were created based off the results of the questionnaire, these designs will show the community what is possible, and that their input is being heard. Rather than asking them to pick a favorite of the bunch they will be asked to pick some
Since I was young, I’ve always took a special interest in learning about the Holocaust. While the Holocaust represents a horrible time in history, I’ve always been interested in learning about the horrifying details because I simply couldn’t imagine how so many people complied with and remained silent as the Nazi regime took over much of Europe. So naturally, I was very excited to begin reading Maus. Similar to Persepolis, Maus is a graphic novel. I do not like reading graphic novels at all, but because the Holocaust is a topic that interests me so much, I was still able to enjoy Maus.
While watching the Uniondale School Board of Education meeting this was something very interesting. The people that attended this meeting where the school board members, the superintendent, the student member, business affairs and people from the local community. The people the present was the student member, two school board members and a couple people from the community. There were a couple things that the board talked about and the members of the community. Something that was very interesting at this board meeting was that the members of the board had a student member by the name of Campbell present during the meeting. Campbell raised a concern about the segregation that is happening in Long Island. She mentioned how she and other people
...evision. I feel there are several simple things could be done that would make the meeting more accessible to not only first time attendees but also citizens in general. First of all by giving a very brief introduction to who the Council members are and why they are on the Council, as well as the who the people on the side bars are and what their purpose for being there. Just a brief background, five minutes at the tops, would give a background enough for newcomers to have a basic understanding of what is going on. Another thing that could be done to make it more accessible would be to explain the purpose of the meeting or to give out an agenda at the beginning. By attending this public meeting, I was able to see that the grandeur that is portrayed on television is very fake, but the importance is vastly downplayed.
As a mayor begins or continues their term of office, their overall purpose is as leader of the council and a number of roles which are both legislative and functional. The mayor not only takes precedence at all municipal proceedings within the municipality but must also take the chair at all meetings of the council at which he or she is present. The mayor’s role extends well beyond officiating at council meetings or other municipal proceedings and includes providing leadership, promoting positive relationships, and modelling good governance.
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the
The meeting started with presentations to the council. During these presentations a council member presented a person or persons to the council. Once the council member made their presentations the other council members made comments to the person or persons. The presenting council member then read part of a framed proclamation. The Mayor then read the proclamation to the council and made a declared the day as a celebration of that person or persons.
At my community meeting similar concerns were discussed such as ¬¬¬the addition of the 116th precinct and the possibility of Creedmoor turning into a homeless shelter. I found this meeting to be very informative and a great learning experience. I learned a lot about my neighborhood 's concerns and several issues that are affecting it. Furthermore, I feel if nurses become more proactive within their communities many of these issues can be easily fixed and the population as a whole will benefit.
I have been involved with the Keene Lions Club for six years now; I have loved and enjoyed every moment of it. My first show being “Seussical the Musical,” I fell in love with what the Keene Lions Club does for great of our community. Since being part of the theatrics of the club with their annual shows, I have served as an ensemble member, audition accompanist, and keyboardist for the orchestra. No matter the experience or task given at hand, I have always felt welcomed by everyone’s encouraging personalities, and talents. When I first took part in the shows, I wasn’t sure what the ‘mission’ was, I just thought it was a really great ensemble that performs a new show each year. I soon learned that everyone in the show, as well as the audience
You only know one man's opinion or story and he wasn’t even involved in the incident. This man is Philip Malloy’s father Mr. Benjamin Malloy. As if that wasn’t enough you went and told reporters and made it go county wide. You also created a big problem with the school board and with my boss Gertrude Doane. If that is how you wish things to be then continue on with the rumors and things you don't know the truth about. I hope that you change your ways, and that you stop having meetings. I also suggest that you don’t try going for part of the school board I say those things because I have been told by one of the other members that you have been backing up Philip Malloy and his father Benjamin. For you’r own sake I hope you resign from trying for the school board. You also made a problem for me and the Harrison School System. You made sure the school budget wasn’t passed, there was over one thousand that didn’t want the budget to pass. Now the school has asked me to resign from my job from there school district. This way they don’t have to pay for me and the teaching class I was going to take this summer. If you feel that you are doing what is right for you, the school, the school board, and the community then please continue. Thank you for your
I believe that my background in art and literature makes me a perfect candidate for the election to the Humanist Club Board of Directors. With my extensive knowledge in writing about humanism and feminism, I would be a great addition to the Club. With the experience of writing over 40 poems including Epistre au dieu d'amour (1399), where I explored the status of women within society and commented their depiction in literature and Le livre du trésor de la cité des dames (1405) where I talked about the importance of equality. Not only do I know extensive amounts about literature, but I have enough life experience to help give fair advice to the Club. Being a widowed mother to three
