Matilda
Directed by Danny DeVito
Matilda is a family comedy which takes place somewhere in the USA during the nineties.
Matilda is a brilliant girl neglected by her stupid, self-involved parents. Ignored at home, Matilda takes interest in reading and she develops telekinetic powers. Eventually, her insensitive parents send her to a school run by the cruel Miss Trunchbull. Matilda befriends her schoolteacher, Miss Honey. She soon realizes Matilda's talents, but is later amazed to see the full extent of Matilda's powers.
I think that Matilda is the most colorful character in the movie. Matilda is very independent for her age, due to her parents’ irresponsibility, and she manages to keep her head up and not let her parents put her down. The young actress, Mara Wilson, does a great performance with her interpretation of Matilda. I believe that she makes the character come to life.
Matilda’s family is the kind of family you’d never wish to have. Her father, Harry, and mother, Zinnia, are both conceited and don’t care about anyone but themselves, except Michael of course, their son and Matilda’s older brother. He is a spoilt brat who’s mean to Matilda and who likes to cause trouble.
Miss Trunchbull is the vicious principal who hates the pupils in the school; especially Matilda after Harry sold a car to Miss Trunchbull and she discovered it’s not in good condition.
Miss Honey, Matilda’s teacher, must be the most wonderful person in the whole movie. She’s one of those teachers you’d be really lucky to have and she’s a complete opposite to Miss Trunchbull.
The special effects in the movie contain flying objects. Most of them are hard to see just how they are done, which in other productions can be quite obvious and might ruin the whole film.
Personally, I like the movie. It is funny at some points where you can’t help but smile or laugh.
Miss Maudie is a woman in the neighborhood who allows Scout and Jem to play on her lawn, eat her Scuppernongs/ grapes, and explore her vast lot. and was often working in her garden. She was a widow. In the evenings,
The book Quiet by Susan Cain explains that extroverts are the type of people who are talkative and sociable, therefore, they could easily get others' attention during various conversations with the topics that they are discussing. Introverts, on the other hand, are the more quiet type. The ideas from introverts are usually drowned because they do not talk as much as the extroverts do. Introverts don’t expect themselves to handle leadership positions, but it doesn’t mean they cannot be successful leaders at their jobs. We often assume that talker as smarter than the quiet type and perceive talkers as leaders. However, introverts actually make the best leaders by carefully listen to what their followers have to say; not only because introverts gain knowledge by listening, but also their abilities to demonstrate modesty and they are extremely
Due to her father’s wealth and her high rank, Matilda was highly sought after as a bride. She was well educated and said to be very beautiful. Modern research shows that she never exceeded five feet in height. Matilda gained the attention of the powerful William, Duke of Normandy. He had fallen in love with her when he first saw her at the French court and was said to be so passionately captivated by her that he would do anything to obtain her. According to legend, when William's representative asked Matilda if she would marry the Duke of Normandy, she declined by saying that she was too high born to consider marrying a “bastard”. William was the son of Robert, Duke of Normandy and his mistress, Herleva. The legend also says that when William heard of her refusal, he rode from Normandy to Flanders, found Matilda on her way to church, dragged her off her horse by her long braids, beat her and left. After this she shockingly agreed to marry him.
George failed to comply with the duty of care, causing his car to roll downhill. According to the authors, negligence occurs when someone suffers an injury or damage to property because of a party’s failure to live up to a required duty of care (Mayer, Warner, Siedel, & Lieberman, 2014, p. 161). Negligence is an unintentional tort that the tortfeasor either wishes to bring consequences of the act or thinks that they will occur (Mayer et al,. 2014, p. 161). For George to be liable for negligence, I will explain the following elements.
In this, she is similar to Atticus, as he spends his life defending people, also mainly the under-privileged. They are also like-minded as to their tolerance of the children, which is a stark contrast to Aunt Alexandra, as she is always nagging Scout to become more of a lady and doesn’t accept her as she is. Miss Maudie is very unlike Miss Caroline, Scout’s school teacher as Miss Caroline whipped Scout to try and control her, whereas Miss Maudie helps her through restraint and friendship. Another person who is totally unlike Miss Maudie is Mrs Merriweather. At the missionary meeting, she patronizes Scout by speaking to her as if she was only a baby and deliberating lying to her. As she is also a childless woman, her behaviour highlights how understanding Miss Maudie is, as she has a
The main difference between introverts and extroverts is where they draw their energy from. Extroverts are generally considered as an expressive individual who seem to be energized by outgoing and social activities whereas introverts prefer the solitary pursuits -often embroiled in their own imagination- and may sometimes find the company of others draining. Introvert tend to recharge by reflection over ideas or by enjoying the solitude; they lose energy when they are near the crowd or large group of people.
character that is innocent, she is a near 6 year old girl that is very harmless and innocent, and she only has the good intentions to save and relief the population of maycomb from racism and from any problems that occurred...
Children look up to their elders for wisdom and advice. They rely on someone experienced and with authority for guidance on how to live their lives. However, sometimes the people who are accountable for youth mislead them; they may have good intentions, but are not mature enough to exemplify their values and morals, or they simply are ignorant. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Aunt Alexandra plays a negative role: she is a proper, southern lady with a strict code of behaviour and etiquette, but is too closed-minded and obstreperous to change her ways or view the world from others’ perspectives. Calpurnia takes on the position of a positive role model by disciplining the children in the Finch household. Miss Maudie takes on the role of a motherly companion, who shares warmth and words of wisdom with Jem and Scout Finch.
Society today favors extroverts. As a society, we see values such as outgoingness and sociability very important. These are all traits of extroverts (Cook). Even schools value these traits, which is, in a way, negatively impacting introverts. Because introverts don’t possess these specific traits, they feel that there’s something wrong with them, and in turn causes them to try and become more extroverted. It doesn’t really work that way. You can’t try and pass as something you’re not. Being an introvert is not a bad thing, though, as Cook talks about in his article. Working in a group causes us to mimic the behaviors of other without realizing we’re doing so. This is called groupthink, when the beliefs of group members conform, often unconsciously, to those beliefs of other group members. Introversion can help solve this problem, though. Since solitude is one of the most important factors for creativity, working on projects solo can help create better and more efficient solutions than if the problem was solved with multiple people working in a group. According to Cook, humans function better along than with others. Introverts are more likely to be motivated by dedication to their
...r, this movie is lack of depth of storyline. The audiences can even predict what will happen in the next scenes. Moreover, the ending of this movie is too cheesy and irrational according to me. If only they change the ending to become more interesting and rational, I will give a four or five stars out of five. In spite of a lame twist ending, this movie is a perfect example to show that managers should be able to motivate and challenge their employee. It is important to remember that a happy employee means a productive employee.
If you are an introvert, you probably know how it feels like to be routinely passed over for leadership roles in school, in an organization or in college. The daring boy who always speaks his mind and raises his hands in class is always recognized as a better student representative than the introverts in the room. The frustration and disappointment that introverts have to go through because of the common misunderstanding that they are shy or anti-social has probably left a negative impact in your life. For centuries, people have preferred extroverted leaders rather than introverted leaders because great leaders are always characterized as gregarious and charismatic (McHugh,
The movie Matilda is about a young first grade girl named Matilda Wormwood. Matilda is a very smart young girl with a family that does not pay any interest in her. From a young age she had to take care of herself. At the tender age of three she had read all the magazines and newspapers in her home, so she looked up where the library was and walked to it. From then on Matilda would read anything she could in the library, the books gave her an important message, that she was not alone. A few years past and Matilda wanted to go to school, her father, Harry Wormwood, who thought she was four when she was actually six, didn’t want her to go because he wanted her home to sign for packages. Although awful, Harry did manage to give her one piece of

There are two distinct personality types: introverts and extroverts. Introverts like to keep their thoughts to themselves and prefer to be alone; however, introverts are not always shy. On the other hand, extroverts are comfortable with sharing their ideas and opening up to others quickly. According to Anthony Hilling in “Extrovert and Introvert—what is the difference?, “It is wrong to think of introverts as being antisocial.” Furthermore, introverts and extroverts choose to socialize differently. Carl Jung defines “introversion as an attitude-type characterised by orientation in life through subjective psychic contents (focus on one's inner psychic activity).” Introverts are known for articulating their thoughts clearly in writing because they “tend to stop, reflect and absorb information before speaking, they reflect this kind of deliberate thought in their writing.” There is an apparent difference between the two personality types, explaining why many people believe that introverts and ex...
