Mathematics is the foundation for any type of career. With a mathematics degree, an individual can choose from a variety of different fields. Most people who major in mathematics enjoy it and excel in the field. Mathematically trained people are needed in every field, because of their problem-solving and critical thinking skills (toroidalsnark.net/mathcareers.html). The number of career opportunities with a mathematical degree or mathematical background is endless. By choosing a mathematical related profession, people are taught patience, discipline and step-by-step problem solving skills (math.ucdavis.edu/~kouba/MathJobs.html). Mathematics are used in everyday life and desirable careers, such as an actuary, an accountant, math teacher, financial …show more content…
They also maintain plans for insurance and pensions. Often referred to as, "financial architects" and "social mathematicians," actuaries deal with investment, financial problems and taxation. Actuaries use their knowledge of mathematics to determine premium rates and the benefits of insurance plans (Careers in Focus: Mathematics and Physics, 18). They develop mathematical models to help their employers make business decisions. There are different types of actuaries, such as casualty actuaries, life actuaries, pension actuaries and consulting actuaries. In order to become an actuary, an individual must excel in mathematics and statistics. A bachelor's degree with a major in mathematics is recommended. It is important to have worked with algebra, calculus, statistics, probability and numerical …show more content…
It is their job to operate a cash register and check out a customer. A cashier adds up the total sum of the items, collects the amount from the customer and enters it into the cash register. "The cash register records all the monetary transactions going into or out of the cashier's workstation" (Careers in Focus: Mathematics and Physics, 65). A cashier must make sure they receive the right amount of money from a customer and give back the correct amount of change. They keep a record of the amount of money they have in their drawer. Cashiers need basic math skills to give back change and to work with large sums of money. They also need to know mental math. They should be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in their head. Cashiers have to pay attention and be very
Mathematics is used to pay bills and to cook to give a few examples. It is also used to figure out different formulas for space. Mathematics is used for computing
Truck driving is a much needed career to help transport goods across the United States and other local areas. Commercial Truck Driving is the career I choose to uphold. Trucking is a way of transportation needed to keep business going. Trucking has been a part of my family for years so I fell in love with trucks now I won’t to drive my own. This career has a good background, career requirements, job positions, and a good reflection.
For most professionals, designations must be acquired through a series of training and schooling. In the United States, actuarial candidates have the opportunity to be a part of the following organizations: the Society of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, the Conference of Actuaries in Public Practice, and the American Academy of Actuaries. Each of these societies has specific requirements in the realm of passing exams and attaining work experience in the actuarial field.
This may surprise you but, there are many jobs dealing with algebra, three different types of jobs that use algebra are accounting, home health care providers, and credit manager. These different jobs all require knowledge of algebra to be able to solve the problems, and to do daily work that happens within the job. Accountants use algebra to make decisions and such, while health care providers use it on a daily basis to take care of their patient. And credit managers use it to help people with their financial deals and such as. Algebra is also used on a most daily basis with the most simplest things that are done daily. Tasks such as: getting gas, buying and paying for items at the store, sharing candy among siblings, and exercising.
My mathematical knowledge is a special gift. I have comprehended math problems from simple addition up to calculus significantly easier than my fellow classmates. Whenever I am stuck on a problem, I refuse to quit until I reach a solution. I was introduced to an actuary occupation as a freshman in high school, and I have been intrigued ever since. Actuaries manage risks and predict probabilities, like the probability of me receiving the Lily Scholarship (85.93%) or the probability of me getting into Purdue’s Honors College (51.67%). The mathematical task will always be
Math is found in literally everything. It is apart of our lives whether we recognize it not. Even when do something simple like go to a movie theater to enjoy a film like Frozen or Wall-E. Without Math none of these movies would be possible. Math is used in animations all the time. Every second we watch an animation we see math at work. All the characters that move and flash before our eyes are able to do that because of math concepts like algebra and trigonometry.
My mind enjoyed the sense of accomplishment with each problem I solved. At that point, I knew that my career would involve math, such as an actuary. That was until recently – I tore my ACL. After going through months of rigorous physical therapy, I have developed an interest in
There are lots of real uses of mathematics in our life. All the mathematics terms base on counting. There is no concept of business without mathematics. We cannot deny the importance of mathematics in our daily life. Wherever we go (for example when we want to purchase something in the market), we need mathematics. And nowadays, technology is very important in our daily life, hence its system used mathematical rules. So we cannot deny the importance of mathematics in real life.
Mathematics is everywhere we look, so many things we encounter in our everyday lives have some form of mathematics involved. Mathematics the language of understanding the natural world (Tony Chan, 2009) and is useful to understand the world around us. The Oxford Dictionary defines mathematics as ‘the science of space, number, quantity, and arrangement, whose methods, involve logical reasoning and use of symbolic notation, and which includes geometry, arithmetic, algebra, and analysis of mathematical operations or calculations (Soanes et al, Concise Oxford Dictionary,
Mathematics is part of our everyday life. Things you would not expect to involve math
An actuary is essentially a kind of business professional. They specialize in analyzing the risk and consequences associated with each decision. To do this job well, individuals must understand financial theories, math and statistics. These analytic tools help the actuary to predict how likely a certain event is to happen. This type of risk assessment is often used by insurance companies, pension programs, employee benefits departments, hospitals, banks, financial institutions and the government.
While sitting in an advanced math class, do you ever wonder, “Why am I wasting my time learning something that I possibly may never use outside of school?” Well, you’d be surprised if you knew all the different careers and jobs that use advanced math every day. For example, carpenters, contractors, and even optometrists use geometry and algebra quite often. Whether you want to believe it or not, math is around you everyday. The buildings you live in, the glasses you wear, and even furniture you sit on all starts with math.
All college students should partake in career exploration project because it gives structure and direction. The result from an assessment identifies and prioritizes which careers will best suit an individual person or student. It does not necessarily mean they have to pick that particular job or career; it gives them more chooses to choose from. Career exploration is a life long journey that is emotionally, physically and mentally stress full. I say lifelong because as time goes on so does an individual’s views, abilities and skills. Career exploration is very helpful to a career, because it improves a person's ability to become informed of their interests, skills, values, abilities, aptitudes, weaknesses and strengths It helps in the guidance of career matters across the nation, job influence, growth, work hours opportunities to name a few. An individual needs to remember that when doing this career exploration project to keep in mind that money is only a temporary fix. In the beginning it may bring you joy and happiness but as time goes on it will not keep up personal enjoyment i...
I have chosen to do Possibility 7. It states that once a person decides to study mathematics they are limited to the possible fields of work that is available to them. According to this statement the only possible jobs are teaching jobs at the school, college, and university levels. It also talks about how this can be dull to some and how a person can't become a millionaire this way.
Actuaries are the fortune-tellers of the business world (“Be an Actuary.”). Their main duty is to analyze the risk and uncertainty of a situation (“Summary”). They then look at the long term effects of possible solutions to see which one has the least amount of loss (“Be an Actuary.”). With the information that they gather about a certain situation they then advise the business how to act in order to get the best outcome and allow it to grow (“Summary”). Actuaries will also do this for individuals for investments, retirement, or financial planning. They use many different types of theorems to get their information; such as the game theory and other theories form statistics or calculus (Ravi). With always dealing with the risk of particular situations and their possible outcomes ...
