The Jayhawks, “Waiting for the Sun” vs Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”. I was in shock when I heard this one. I love Tom Petty and was surprised to hear how similar these two are. “Waiting for the Sun” is a great song that I have never heard before and I immediately heard the similarity to Tom Petty. Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Dani California” is similar to the two songs mentioned above, but I can sense some differences. “Dani California” definitely has a faster tempo. I’m not exactly sure what the differences are, but they are there. Kenny Chesney’s, “Pirate Flag” is similar to the above songs, but it is not something I would have noticed if I wasn’t looking for it. Unlike “Waiting for the Sun”, I had to really
listen for the similarity. Joe Cockers “Woman to Woman”, 2Pacs “California Love”, and California Breeds “Scars” do have similar beats. I listened to “Woman to Woman” first, and the rhythm was right up front and gave me a very clear pattern to start with when comparing. “California Love” started the same beat with the addition of some other tones. Not sure how to explain it, but I did hear the same beat throughout both songs. I feel like the “Scars” song was the most polluted, with the same beat. It seems to have another layer which masked the obvious underlying rhythm that matched in all the songs.
As time progressed, music had to continue to evolve to keep up with the ever-changing styles. Blues slowly began to morph into Rock and Roll to engage people of a new era. While many changes occurred in creating Rock and Roll, it continued to carry undertones of the Blues. This can be heard while comparing Son House’s, “Walking Blues” and Elvis Presley’s, “Blue Moon of Kentucky.” These two songs show many similarities, while also having their own identities.
Even though these books were written a little over a hundred years apart, there are several similarities and differences. Both de Vaca and Rowlandson went through similar struggles such as starvation and dehydration, different weather conditions and troubles with the Indians. God was a factor in keeping both of them uplifted in their treacherous journeys. They both mention numerous times how God aided them. One slight difference is in Mary Rowlandsons book religion is more evident. She had access to a Bible which enabled her give quotes unlike de Vaca who barely had clothes on his back.
Throughout the years, America has pursued the performing arts in a large variety of ways. Theatre plays a dramatic and major role in the arts of our society today, and it takes great effort in all aspects. Musical Theatre, specifically, involves a concentration and strength in dance, acting, and singing. This is the base that Musical Theatre is built upon. For my Senior Project, I helped choreograph multiple scenes in a community musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. Choreography is a way of expressing oneself, but it has not always been thought of for that purpose. Agnes de Mille’s expressive talent has drastically affected how people see choreography today. Agnes de Mille’s influence in the world of dance has left a lasting impact in the Performing Arts Department, and her revolutionary works are still known today for their wit, lyricism, emotion, and charm.
The second song is “You Give Love A Bad Name”. This song opens with just the vocals proclaiming, “Shot through the heart and you’re to blame, darling you give love a bad name.” Next, the instruments com...

The whole reason why Bigger doesn’t see what happened to Mary as an accident is because it was what helped him apparently find a sole purpose; as if what happened was what needed to happen in his life. After the death of Mary, Bigger saw it as a way of giving the whites what they deserve as he slowly gained a high sense of invincibility and masculinity. Bigger’s motivation was the way he viewed white America. He convinced himself that his whole life was meant for him to accomplish that one thing. Even if it was by accident, it gave him a clear cut purpose he didn’t have before.
Author Christine Mitchell’s “When Living is a Fate Worse Than Death” told the story of a girl Haitian named Charlotte. Charlotte was born with her brain partially positioned outside of her cranium which had to be removed or she would have not survived. Her skull had to be concealed by a wrap in order not to cause further damage. Charlotte was born with less brain cells which allowed her only to breath and not feel much of the pain. Charlotte’s parents thought that the doctor’s in Haiti did not know what was best for their daughter. The doctors in Haiti thought Charlotte should not be resuscitated, undergo anymore horrible treatments and die peacefully. Charlotte’s parents were not happy with the doctor’s guidelines and thought the United States medical care would have better technology and could save their daughter. Charlotte’s parents bought her a doll which
There have been few people, if any, who could subvert stereotypes in such fascinating and iconic ways like Josephine Baker, and none of them did it while wearing a banana skirt. America’s most famous expatriate, Josephine Baker, has maintained a cultural impact over 42 years after her death. She exploded onto the 1920’s jazz scene in New York and shortly after took her talents to Paris, where she performed an original burlesque show, La Revue Negre (Lampley). This performance made her a star, and she quickly became the face of African-American jazz culture. There are many photographs that capture Josephine performing at the height of her career, but the problem with these photographs is that they only show a single facet of Josephine Baker.

An underdog of magical proportions, a victim who overcomes adversity, Cinderella is one of the most used archetypes in all of modern adaptations of fairy tales. Ella Enchanted, a 2004 film adaptation of the genre, was directed by Tommy O’Haver and is a fantasy romantic comedy the follows a young woman named Ella on a journey to self-discovery, empowerment, and ultimately to a life of happiness. By using characteristics of the Cinderella genre along with modern adaptations involving female strength, Ella Enchanted gives a new look on what it exactly means to be a modern Cinderella in a world that would rather keep women subordinated.
"O cunning enemy that, to catch a saint, with saints dost bait thy hook." A disturbing tale of suspense, dark comedy and corruption, Shakespeare's Measure for Measure explores sexuality, morality and the law, exposing the abuse of authority in high places amid the seething underworld of Vienna. This essay will explore Isabella’s moral dilemma.

I believe that the procedure performed on Jodie and Mary was morally wrong. In the case involving the twin sisters, they should not have been surgically separated because it went against the wishes of the parents, our duty not to do any harm, and because of possible negative psychological suffering that could occur with the surviving twin. It is not right to go against the wishes of the parents of infants and children because what the parents believe is best for their children should be valued since the rights of the infants belong primarily to the guardians due to their incompetency: the inability to make decisions due to their age and level of understanding. Jodie and Mary were born as conjoined twins. As a result of difficulties in the pregnancy,
The song i chose to listen to was Syd Barrett simply because I've always seen people wearing the shirts and talked about their music so i thought it would be a great idea to listen to them first. The album Madcap laughs, barrett , Mask replica was
