Writing is an excellent practice because the benefits gained are essential to an individual’s success in a job, or just conveying their ideas through words. Within the semester we have written three major papers, and have rewritten two of those papers. In each paper I discovered new ways to get information, and have gained more experience in sculpting a paper. Obtaining this new knowledge of how to present my ideas in different writing styles will help me expand my range in how I can write, and essentially allow me to be better prepared for upcoming jobs following my college education. I can safely say that with the papers from this semester and their mistakes that dealt with minor grammar errors, awkward sentence structures, and oversimplifying …show more content…
With this assignment we got to look deeper into his speech looking at his mechanics and seeing emotion in his tone. Before this assignment I had no idea of the impact his speech really had; noticing the logic in his argument, the credibility he had obtained, and the heartfelt sentences constructed together to change the hearts and minds where racism was at its peak. With the mechanics of this paper with slight grammar mistakes my main lessons learned were the right way to present a title whether it is in quotation marks or it is italicize titles. I also learned that if I decide to use a block quote to present or explain an idea it is important to record the line number of the quote from the work after the last period in the quote. Besides the grammar mistakes I also gained a true appreciation for Dr. King, seeing as his reputation had preceded him, that he could deliver such a speech that affected the nation the way it did. That within just a matter of a few years the majority of the nation would turn from racism. It was truly an honor to get to write on the effectiveness, and craft of his astounding …show more content…
For my essay decided to discuss the similarities and differences in Protestant Christianity and Islam. After looking through the choices given to me, I decided that this comparison would fit me best because I myself am very devout in my faith so this topic fit me well. Going into this discussion I already had much knowledge on both, but I did end up doing much research on both, and it was very interesting to see why each religion believed the way they did. I believe for this paper even though I was not able to clearly state which religion I agreed with more, I do believe it was good training for me for in later life when giving your opinion is not best idea for a situation. Obviously, with believing in a religion I am biased towards a side when it comes to religion, but it is interesting to discuss religions in a way where I can look at the origins, practices, and basic beliefs, and actually talk about them with going straight pointing out why do not believe them to be true. This was a very enjoyable paper for me, because even with the emphasis in research, and making sure there is factual evidence to prove myself, getting to discuss on a topic that I hold close to myself was fun and easy to write about. I am glad I got the chance to right a paper like this, and I do believe the lessons learned in this paper have contributed to me more as a
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.

King peacefully pleads for racial tolerance and the end of segregation by appealing to the better side of white Americans. His attempt to persuade America about the justice of his cause, and to gain support for the civil rights movement was emotionally moving. He spoke to all races, but his rhetoric was patriotic, and culturally similar to, and focused on African-Americans. He was able to make practical use of a history many Americans are proud of. The use of repetition reinforced his words making it simpler and more straightforward to follow. His speech remains powerful because it is still relevant today, like economic injustices and stereotyping. This reading can be applied to remedying current issues of stereotyping, racism, and discrimination by changing white racial resentment and eliminating racial

Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Formal writing forms like essays, research papers, and articles stimulates critically thinking. This helps the writer to learn how to interpret the world around him/her in a meaningful way. In college, professors motivate students to write in a formal, coherent manner, without losing their own voice in the process. Improving your writing skills is important, in every English class that’s the main teaching point; to help students improve their writing skills. During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really understood the significance of MAP. For this reason, my writing lacked clarity, organization, and my writings appeared less focused on the topics. As a result my research papers and essays did not flow as smoothly from one passage to the next. Furthermore, I was unaccustomed with the precise procedures used when writing an essay. For instance, my previous classes before college, although requiring a reference page, did not require me to include proper citations in my writings. After evaluating the quality of my writing toward the end of the semester, I recognized vast improvements in several areas of my writing. By concentrating on the beginning stages of my writings, I could distinguish ahead of time my audience and my message. As a result, my essays are clear, and I remain on topic. In addition to that using transition phrases efficiently also helps my writing to flow smoothly. The proper use of transitions makes my writings easy to follow from one topic to the next. I also learned that pre-writing...
