Why Students Should be Able to Watch The Martian In School Do you ever have those days when you feel like you want to learn something new? Do you like action packed movies? Do you also like to learn visually? Well, The Martian is an amazing movie that is perfect for you. This movie is accurate in scientific aspects, and it will help kids who are visual learners. By viewing this movie, it is also giving students something more relaxing to do. Mark Watney, an astronaut on a space mission has been left behind on Mars all by himself. His crew had left him behind because they were under the impression that he had got stuck by debris and died. Mark has survived and the way he does it is incredible to see. Unfortunately, the state of New Jersey has …show more content…
The scenes on Mars are accurate in terms of their location. The place where Mark had landed on Mars is actually a real place on Mars today. That place is known as Acidalia Planitia. According to the Science vs. Cinema video, the space rovers were very accurate as well. NASA has rovers like the ones seen in the film today. Another aspect of accuracy is seen in the way the film captured the team working factor accurately in the crew. Teamwork is very crucial among astronauts and the way the crew in the film captured that is similar. The fact that people took their time and did the research to create this amazing film is incredible. The film and novel both also involve energy transformations. Learning about energy is part of the various topics you learn in eighth grade. “The RTG houses plutonium, catches the radiation in the form of heat, and turns in into electricity” (Weir 73). This quote shows how one form of energy is transferred into another. This is scientifically correct, and goes with the topic of energy transformations that you learn in eighth …show more content…
The movie would not only relate to the topic you are teaching, but along with that, the movie would give students a break. Instead of doing something highly focused, the movie would be a great way to extend the learning and it would give students something that needs less focus in class. “There will be days when students will be more focussed on their homecoming dance and game that night or the holiday that starts the next day than on the topic that day; while this is not an excuse to show a non-educational movie, this could be a good time to watch something on the topic you are teaching” (Kelly 2). In this quote it says non-educational movie, but the movie Martian is educational which makes the reason to view it even stronger. In my case, I did have quartelys and midterms this week, and I believe that I was very focused on those things. The movie, The Martian, gave me a break when I was studying for other classes and also educated me at the same
Another accuracy in this movie was the concentration camps in this movie, they were portrayed very well. Just like history, immediately after arriving at a concentration camp, they were split up and divided by gender and age. As soon as they arrived people who the Nazis did not see fit to work were killed. Along with this people
Movies based on books are not always accurate relative to the plot of the book. In Fahrenheit 451 it can be said, there are some particular contrasts between the book and the movie. Despite the fact that the film emphasizes the subjects and premise of the book, there are numerous distinctions to differentiate. The motion picture Fahrenheit 451 is not accurate, taking into account the book's plot.
...the predominant theme of disorientation and lack of understanding throughout the film. The audience is never clear of if the scene happening is authentic or if there is a false reality.
In the book The Martian by Andy Weir, Mark Watney is thought to be dead and left on Mars after a sandstorm during Sol 6. Mark has to survive with what’s left on mars and through many obstacles and tribulations in his fight to survive. The way Mark’s character broadens from start to finish shows that Mark is witty, rational, and driven.
The Martian is a story that involves a visit to the mars, and after that, the astronauts come out of the Mars leaving behind Mark Watney who his real name is Matt Damon. The team assumed Mark was dead after a strong storm. He tried to survive with the remains of the supplier till he was able to launch his way back to the Earth (MacIsaac, 2015). The story is represented in the Novel, and a movie and these two platforms have some similarities and differences. The movie is the representation of what is happening in the book. Therefore, not everything that it is in the book is covered in the one and half film, therefore several scenarios are left out.
Though viewing many forms of media, such as television shows or movies, students can be able to have a better understanding from what they saw. It gives students the chance to discuss and bring up important events in class, and be able to relate to to their interest outside of school. For instance, pop culture tackle important points like “ethics, morals, and current world events”(Nichols). If students can relate a topic in class to something they know, they can can apply it to their everyday learning, and help them understand the topic
In the movie, the representation of the time is mostly accurate and the writer’s views are reflected ...
As I read these articles further as well as many others I found more and more to call out from the movie. Though all of my sources of information I have come across seemed to follow each other very well. As I expanded my base knowledge of the topic I found an endless stream of background information. At this point I forced myself to stop my search and came to the conclusion that around sixty percent of the movie was historically accurate.
In one particular scene, director was truly a great one, featuring special focus on his dad life and the Colorado River. It was so cool to highlights of the movie by one of his favorite poem written by his dad when he was born, the Important Place. Also, this film was a good length, not excessively long but long enough to tell the story. This is really important today there were no such unwanted scene in the film, which literary the most closely and accurately delivered. In my opinion, this film is forced to possess the characters of a great aspect, and turns to make for quite the adventurous. There was no special character encounter rather than his dad, learned something from the secret Colorado River. Another great aspect of the film was the special footage that were introduce in this film was an enjoyable aspect to be a good documentary film, and that’s how this film is different from the rest.
Most popular movies are known for being very uneducational to teenager’s behavior. People think that just because a movie is popular, it can not be educational; however, the movies “42” and “Finding Nemo” are known for being popular and educational. “Finding Nemo” is popular because of its Disney animations and its underwater talking animals. It is educating because of how Marlin never gave up and how he did and did not trust some of the friends he made along the way. “42” is also popular because of how it is a sports movie that appeals to people who play or are into sports. “42” is also very educating to a teenagers character because it shows how bad racism is and how dreams can come true.
The story of The Martian focuses on the obstacles botanist and astronaut Mark Watney must overcome to survive on the planet Mars. His adventure is filled with fictional and non-fictional elements that are most likely difficult for the normal individual to identify what is actually realistic and what is simply fantasy. After taking a closer look, this film contains a lot more realism to actual science and space travel today. This paper will closely analyze and discuss three accuracies and inaccuracies of the film in relation to the content discussed in ESS 102 lectures, labs, and assignments.
Both Collins and Ross did a remarkable job in creating a sensational science fiction story that captivates its readers and viewers. I feel it is uncommon to find a film that portrays the aspects of a novel this consistently, and while there were a few differences I feel the film does an exceptional job of encompassing the vision of this book.
When the movie was finished, some people nearby me started crying and talking about this movie in positive way. As expected, a global company of this movie, named Pixar, described attractive characters, wonderful graphic and great story. This movie also depicted well that each five emotions had an individual conflict at each events. The highlight of Inside Out is the process that Joy was realizing how happiness and joy are made from the beginning to end. I recommend this wonderful movie if people look for a movie for family and an animation that brings an enormous impression. Especially, students, who study psychology or mental science, should pay and watch this movie. It will be not wasting their precious time. Throughout this movie, I obtained a lot of psychological knowledge, and it will be very helpful for my major. Like I mentioned about this movie, people, who did not watch yet, have to see
Movies take us inside the skin of people quite different from ourselves and to places different from our routine surroundings. As humans, we always seek enlargement of our being and wanted to be more than ourselves. Each one of us, by nature, sees the world with a perspective and selectivity different from others. But, we want to see the world through other’s eyes; imagine with other’s imaginations; feel with other’s hearts, at a same time as with our own. Movies offer us a window onto the wider world, broadening our perspective and opening our eyes to new wonders.
The film I am planning to study is Toy Story 3. I personally selected this film because I grew up watching the Toy Story series and always found them to be thought-provoking. The major themes of Toy Story 3 are letting go and moving on. The classmates I will be working with are Desiree Ramirez, William Udeh, Nicholas Padilla, and Courtney Thornton.
