After having helped found what would be the world’s most popular and largest software company in 1975, Bill Gates officially found himself to be the richest man alive at the ripe, young age of only thirty-one. Gates had never imagined that the thirteen year old boy who loved to program computers in his parent’s garage would one day find himself to be considered the world’s wealthiest man alive, having a total net worth of $76 billion. Having began on his own, tinkering with computers and computer software, Gates later created the seed of Microsoft, or what was originally called Traf-O-Data in the summer of 1972. (Fast Facts) It wasn’t until two years later, with the help of his co-founder, Paul Allen that Microsoft was born, transforming the technological world in ways that the people had never seen. The birth of Microsoft changed the ways of old computers, making way for faster newer and more innovative technology, along with bringing on a strong competition with their rival company, Apple Inc. With this grand cooperation, Bill Gates was also accumulating a large mass of money, gradually finding himself to top the charts of the Forbes World Billionaires List. (Fast Facts) Despite being well known for his contributions to Microsoft, Bill Gates’ most profound impact on the American culture was in medical and educational advances provided by The Gates foundation, paralleled by his philanthropic views and aid in the lives of the both poor and wealthy.
According to Nair (2011), “The social media property on the web is exploding and fast becoming a necessary part of the arsenal of any organization. It took 38 years for the radio to attract 50 million listeners, and 13 years for television to gain the attention of 50 million viewers. The Internet took only four years to attract 50 million participants, and Facebook reached 50 million participants in only one-and-a-half years. Facebook, which was originally designed for Harvard students and launched in 2004, has become a phenomenal example of social engagement. By 2009, Facebook had already achieved 100 million monthly active users covering age groups from 13 to 65; by the end of 2010, there were more than 500 million users. (p. 46) With so many people connected through social media and since businesses are dependent on people to thrive, they have been impacted both positively and negatively.
The movie “Social Network” is about the ideas and the development behind the creation of the very popular social networking site “Facebook”. Mark Zuckerberg is the main character in the movie and also the actual creator of Facebook.
Many people believe that it is impossible to get to a status of that such as Bill Gates, the owner of Microsoft, however, Elon Musk has accomplished what many have thought to be near impossible. Knowing how one has become successful could help others become just as successful or somewhere close. Having spent over fifty hours with Elon Musk, Ashlee Vance has uncovered the qualities and life choice made by Elon Musk in his first ever biography, Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future. Vance has the chance to examine one of the most successful businessmen in the world. She looked into his life growing up, his family, his childhood, and many more aspects that would transform him into what he is now. She got to know the inner
In a past MBA course, I studied the leadership qualities of Mark Zuckerberg. Out of these two leaders whom I admire, Zuckerberg is the individual I would prefer to work. Ekaterina Walter wrote an article in Inc. magazine where she identified five leadership attributes of Mark Zuckerberg that contributed to his success. They are passion, purpose, people, product, and partnerships. This transformational leadership skill is part of what makes him such an effective leader. Part of Mark Zuckerberg 's mission at Facebook enhanced openness and transparency, and he believes openness fosters connectivity. Zuckerberg utilizes a charismatic/transformational/authentic leadership approach. He is self-confident, optimistic, resilient, results-oriented, and an
For everyone in the business world, Mark Zuckerberg is a well-known name to them. He is an undeniably young, successful businessman. However, Zuckerberg is also a very successful leader in his own company as well as in the world. His impact from creating Facebook is more than just impressive. Zuckerberg created the social media website where people get connected virtually and led the company to incredible success. Zuckerberg’s leadership style can be seen with inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and idealized influence. With all the aforementioned components, Mark Zuckerberg is a great example of transformational leadership.
To become one of the most influential people in the world, Gates had to have the work ethic and determination to get there. With great work ethic he started, as a child, with debugging computers for local people in his town (“Gates, William Henry, III” 1). This also started his love for computers, and as he researched and started figuring computers out he became more skillful with them. After he started debugging computers, he began to dabble in writing software programs, his first program that he and his friends made was a computerized payroll system for his high school (“Gates, Bill” 1). He and his friends then proceeded to make more complicated programs, such as Traf-O-Data, which was a traffic counting program that Gates and his partner Paul Allen sold to the city they lived in for $20,000 when they were just fifteen years old (“William H. Gates” 1).
...tions he dealt with. It is the story of how the world’s youngest billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg, created Facebook.
Originally, Facebook was started in 2003 by a man named Mark Zuckerburg in his college dorm room at Harvard University. It began as a social network for Harvard students and then quickly expanded to universities across America. Facebook as we know it today started in the year 2004 and now does not only include college students but ages ranging from teens to middle-aged individuals. The social network site has quickly developed into one of the most trafficked networking websites which runs thousands of databases. By building a network that has spread across various countries, Facebook has successfully created a form of technology that allows people to connect with friends across the seas with different cultures.
An entrepreneur is someone that starts up their own business. Mark Zuckerburg became an entrepeneur because of his social networking site called Fackbook. It all started in his college dorm in 2004 at Harvard University. He made a website called Facesmash for Harvard students only. This site let you vote on which two students from Harvard were “Hot or Not”. Then he started making “TheFacebook”, which was the name of facebook when it started.Soon he soon changed it to just “Facebook”. A man named Peter Theil was the first to invest in the company for 10.2% of the company. Zuckerburg branched out to more private schools, then next thing you know the site was all over the U.S. They made their money by letting ads be on the site. The companies pay facebook to put ads on the site, then Facebook makes money. The company went public in 2012 to the stocks. This was big. They would make even more money. It was risky, but Zuckerburg did it.
For everyone in the business world, Mark Zuckerberg is not a very oblivious name to them. He is a young successful businessman and that is undeniable. However, Mark is also a very successful leader in his own company as well as to the world. His impact from creating Facebook is more than just impressive. Mark created the social media website where people get connected virtually and lead the company incredibly successful. Mark’s leadership style can be seen with inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and idealized influence. With all those components above, Mark Zuckerberg is a great example of transformational leadership.
Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born May 14, 1984 in White Plains, New York but grew up in Dobbs Ferry, a small town in New York City. Edward Zuckerberg, Mark’s father, is a dentist and his mother, Karen, a psychiatrist. Mark has three sisters; Arielle, Randi, and Donna Zuckerberg. Mark obtained his first computer, an Atari 800 with a programming disk, at age 10. Although Ed taught him the Atari BASIC programing, Mark mostly taught himself. Mark’s parents hired David Newman, a software engineer, to lecture him in computers. Soon, Newman and his parents realized that he was a computer programming genius. Mark’s parents then bought a new computer, a Quantex 486DX that ran Windows 3.1, and started programming his new computer.

"Bill Gates is a modern business phenomenon: the greatest of the cyber-tycoons. His is not simply a story of technical brilliance and enormous wealth; it is one of remarkable business vision and an obsessive desire to win. It is also about a leadership style that is radically different to anything the business world has seen before."
