A balanced diet is when you eat a range of food and drinks from all the different groups but at the same time maintaining and taking care of what you eat. Especially staying away as much as possible from salt, trans fats etc.
Malnutrition is caused by an unbalanced diet due to having too much or too little nutrients (PubMedHealth.com). Under nutrition is when the body isn’t given enough calories, due to the person’s diet, and because they don’t utilize the food properly as they should. Over nutrition, is when the person consumes a lot more proteins and calories then they should. (MNT- Medical News Today)
Obesity comes from malnutrition, where a person has too much nutrients causing them to have extra fat. High body mass is when a person’s weight is 20% higher than he or she should be and there is a lot of body weight which affects their health. People who are overweight, have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 25 and 29.9, but obese people would’ve a BMI of 30 or over. To calculate your BMI, you need your height and your body weight. BMI helps a person indicate whether he or she is underweight, average, overweight, or obese. (MNT-Medical News Today)
Energy is required for the body for growth, exercise and everyday activities. The body breaks down fats and foods, but it also creates new things like muscle. To do so, it needs energy which comes from the food and drinks that we eat or consume. (annecollins.com) Lipids, proteins and carbohydrates, are the main energy sources for the human body, and they have to be broken down into smaller molecules, and digested by enzymes before they are used. The Structure and Function of Carbohydrates Large biological molecules are called macromolecules, there are giant molecules (polymers) made up of repeating units (monomers). Carbohydrates are one of the main classes of biological molecules. Macromolecule units (monomers) are joined together by condensation reactions and hydrolysis reactions split macromolecules down into their individual units. Carbohydrates are molecules that contain elements of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Carbohydrates have a 2:1 hydrogen to oxygen ratio, there are twice as many hydrogen atoms as oxygen atoms (the same proportion as in water).

Introduction There once was a time when words like "light" and "low-fat" were on food packages that had no nutritional meaning. As a result, shoppers were often led to believe they were buying products that were more helpful than they really were. Nutrition panels on labels are also confusing and hard to read. But the Australia New Zealand Authority (ANZFA) changed all that. In March 2001 the ANZFA defined new standardized terms that appear on food labels such as "low-fat", "reduced" and "lean" to control how food manufacturers could put their facts that are relevant to most of our dietary needs.

Sizer (2013, p.8) explains that “When you eat food, then, you are providing your body with energy and minerals. Furthermore, some of the nutrients are essential nutrients, meaning that if you do not ingest them, you will develop deficiencies: the body cannot make these nutrients for themselves.” The authors go over what good and bad foods are, from saturated fats and unsaturated fats to the difference between an adequate diet and a balanced diet. Sizer (2013, p.11) defines adequate as “The dietary characteristics of providing all the essential nutrients, fiber, and energy in amounts of sufficient to maintain healthy and body weight.” Sizer (2013, p. 11) defines balance as “The dietary characteristic of providing food of a number of proportion to each other, such that foods rich in some nutrients do not crowd out the diet foods that are rich in other nutrients.” From reading this Tammy understood the differences between having her body function properly and having her body get the correct proportion of

Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are good for you and what they do to help the body function.
