Culture is described as being characteristics of a group through beliefs, morals, values and religious views and so forth. Ecuador has a machismo view that they are taught from birth, the man works and supports the family while the women stays at home and looks after the house. So from a Military perspective, you will see all males in military roles. Ecuador’s machismo belief would definitely play a huge role in how their society is run. Politics would be male dominant, how money is spent on the country, the countries military all decisions made by males. Predominately religious belief is 95% Catholic, so their belief in God is very strong and encouraged from birth. Quito (2 million people) is Ecuador’s capital and political seat while Guayaquil (4 million) is the largest city on the coast. Each of these cities respectively represents Ecuadorian mountain and coastal cultures (2016, http://www.donquijote.org/culture/ecuador/,). Militarily Ecuador has 40,000 Active Frontline personnel, 118,000 Reserve personnel, tanks, Artillery, naval weapon system and air power. Although they may not be a Military power they can defend themselves if need be. Going to war with Ecuador would pose problems once it came to their terrain seeing how Ecuador has a wide mountain range, and a slightly large coast. This war took place between Ecuador and Peru the war had nothing to do with the war in the Pacific or Europe. The two countries were fighting over a piece of land and who had ownership. Peru had a much larger and more advanced military so they had no problem brushing off the small Ecuadorian army. No one knows who actually started the war, some believe the Ecuadorian army seized a small town in Peru and that’s when tensions flared, now it was just a matter of when the war would actually start. That day was July 05, 1941 and Peru had no problem seizing multiple towns in Ecuador. Peru’s success during the war was not a surprise to anyone; they outnumbered the Ecuadorian army 4 to 1 and had advanced military equipment. Ecuador’s army was poorly equipped with antique weapons and horse artillery from the 19th century. Ecuador’s army consisted of poorly equipped infantry and irregular soldiers that knew they had no chance but they still fought. Ecuador’s forces could not compare to Peru’s military, the soldiers were equipped with French uniforms had weapons from the First World War and even acquired two light tanks from Czech. On top of a more advanced military they also had multiple P-64 fighters that they converted into bombers.
