In addition, she was in tune with every aspect of how to effectively run and operate her business. She knew how each functioning part played a role in the productivity of the business. Her demeanor was one that you couldn 't help but to respond to. Lynn Tilton had charm and wit. She allowed her personality to speak for itself. Keita Powell is a pint-sized powerhouse. She is energetic, result oriented, focused, and driven. Ms. Powell is one of many women in the Mary Kay Cosmetics sales force. She rose through the ranks from Independent Beauty Consultant to Independent Elite Executive Senior Sales Director rather quickly because of her charisma, ability to build a sales team of energetic men and women, and sheer enthusiasm to succeed. One would think that she was an amazing leader to get so many women to follow her in teaching skin care, beauty techniques, increasing and maintaining sells goals and to rise from a very junior consultant to one who is an executive in the business. However, she has made mistakes along the way and continues to feign focus on her sales force and customers but the true focus is on her needs, wants, and desires as well as keeping the use of her free pink Cadillac. This paper will evaluate Ms. Powell's leadership approach through four leadership models discovered through the Unit 3 readings.
Denisco & Barker, (2016) discusses the foundation of leadership and the four conceptual pillars that comprise it. Understanding the leadership is a responsibility of an APN, the following final question was posed to Ms. Gordner. “Of the four pillars of leadership; professionalism, inspirational motivation, interpersonal relationships, and business skills, do you feel that one is more important than another, and why?” She responded,
Chad Miller, manager of Buffalo Wild Wings in Dubuque, excellently showcases leadership characteristics each time I work with him. Throughout my one and a half years working underneath him, I have witnessed many great exchanges of leadership from Chad to customers, employees, and his other managers. He remains professional, shows his passion for the sports within the restaurant, as well as the food and atmosphere, clearly communicates effectively, and has inspired many people to move up within the company. However, another great example of leadership comes from the Director of Student Life, Diversity, and Leadership of Northeast Iowa Community College, Kara Popp. She exudes professionalism, while maintaining a light atmosphere during the time I work with her. Her communication style clearly shows her passion for the school by consistently instilling excitement and enthusiasm into her audiences. As president underneath of Kara, I have transformed into a proper leader. Although my previous leadership experience, as an 18 year old manager at a McDonald’s restaurant, showed my immaturity throughout my tenure, but beca...
One may wonder exactly what it is that qualities a strong leader possesses. A strong leader is determined, and strong willed. They must be of good judgment, and without bias. They cannot easily be persuaded, and they are firm, yet at the same time, a good lead must also empathize with his subordinates, and have the best interest at heart for said subordinates, at all times. However, with that being said, a good leader cannot be afraid to discipline his subordinates when necessary. Unmistakably, being a leader is a very difficult feat – one which not everyone can accomplish. A leader must be an authority, a friend and a counsellor, all at once. They must be responsible, and always take into account the disadvantages of a situation. Not everyone is suitable to be a leader, whereas, just about anybody can be a good role model.
In a firm, management and leadership are important and needed. Leadership and management are similar. Actually, leadership and management are totally different. The leadership would influence the firm. The leader would have difference leadership styles to lead the subordinate.
During my interview with Regina Martinez, BS RN and currently an Assistant Director of a home health agency, I discovered her leadership style matched the above quote. Martinez had extensive experience in management prior to joining the medical field. As a single working mother, she worked her way up from waitress to manger of a popular seafood restaurant. However, her dream had always been to become a nurse and she began her medical career as a certified nurse’s aide (CNA), while working through college. She graduated from nursing school with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and has been a Registered Nurse (RN) for more than two decades. She quickly earned the respect of doctors and fellow nurses, becoming a Charge Nurse on the floors she worked. She has worked as Medical Surgery nurse, emergency room, and as Director of Nursing for home health and long-term care facilities where she was responsible for over 150 employees.
According Hughes, Beatty, and Dinwoodie’s ( 2014) work on strategy, all areas of an organization need to collaborate with each other to help bring strategy to fruition. They mentioned four elements of leadership strategy. (1) Leadership Drivers of Business Strategy. This is the identification of and the preparing of leaders to implement strategy. Certain skills, abilities and resources need to be in place prior to a strategies’ roll out. When the correct leaders have the proper skill sets are in place coupled with the backing of the organization this may create a dynamic situation. Hughes et al. (2014) describes these as “levers- that if pulled will catapult the organization toward success” (p. 236). (2)Leadership Culture, as mentioned

The role of leadership can impact an organization performance in many ways. Excellent leadership can propel a company to the fortune five hundred list. For Example, Harpo Incorporated Oprah Winfrey’s company is a successful business that has made billions of dollars over the years. The business consists of several different entities such as the Oprah Show, Oprah Winfrey Network, and The Dr. Phil Show to name a few. This could not have been accomplished with a weak or uneducated leader. Many years ago I heard her give advice to the Williams Sisters. The a...
The first thing she did when she began speaking was establish her credibility. She did this by effectively established her credibility by using personal experiences within her own classroom and the relationship she has between her and her students. It was evident in the way that she communicated clearly her experiences that she knew what she was speaking on, there was no uncertainty. Pierson spoke from a genuine and sincere place and she conveyed this through her speaking. Besides her credibility being evident through her speaking, it was also evident through her appearance. Pierson presented herself in a professional manner, she wore business attire, her hair was done, and her make-up was nicely done. Molecular and Microbiology. Many people hear the major and shudder; thoughts of sleepless nights, studying for courses unintelligible by the ‘average’ person, mad scientists hunched over test tubes and doctors doing open heart surgery. Research science and medicine, that’s what my major is geared towards, and I’m pursuing the medicine side of it all. Maybe I’ll be that open heart surgeon that comes to mind, or maybe just a family practitioner, either way, I want more than anything to be a doctor, a great doctor, and while my M&M degree is the first step in making that happen, I’d have to say that being a Lead Scholar is the second. Many people may not see the medical profession as one that requires being a leader to others, as you make your own decisions and people feel that you work on your own. You consult patients, help them with their problems, you work on each one on your own. If there is any involvement with any other health professional, people think it’s more like a team, with little to no individual leadership. They’re wrong, and right. Being a doctor is being a part of a team, and being a part of a team¬ does take personal leadership.
Leadership is one of the most important traits Sue Ellen showed the most, by taking charge of the family and providing for her household. For instance, she decided to go job searching in order to have some type of income for her family so their
Management is a job that is “harder than it looks,” as the saying goes. Not only must you have a plan, be able to organize, control, and lead, you must be able to continue to make decisions that will benefit not only the company, but everyone involved in said company. That involves stockholders, employees, and management that is both above and below what position you may be in. Andrea Jung, one of the most successful CEOs is an example of manager who can plan, organize, control, and lead in Avon and continue to make it a success. The company has thrived under her management, and there is no sign that that success will slow or drop in the future. What also makes Andrea Jung impressive is the fact that there are still few women who are in management compared to the amount of men who currently manage various companies. With her strong belief of female empowerment, she may be a shining example for other woman who want to become a manager in the future.
When I think of a good leader I think Influence, confidence, fearlessness, challenges, disappointments, and responsibilities. Sometimes, being a leader comes with hard decisions, but it’s your responsibility to make those decisions hoping they are the right decisions for your company. Being one of the most powerful and influential companies today that a lot of people depend on for internet searches. Admiring the strong organizational culture that includes values of creativity, simplicity and innovation which plays a great success and gives the company an advantage over other companies. Strategic Leadership The only thing harder than being a strategic leader is trying to define the entire scope of strategic leadership a broad, difficult. concept. The symposia are a lot of fun. We cannot always define it or describe it in every detail.
