Low Voltage Cubicle Switchboard (LVSB) Test and Inspection
For a Low Voltage Cubicle Switchboard (LVSB), test such as visual inspection, site test before and after connection of incoming supply are performed. The following steps describe the processes involved for each mentioned test.
Visual Inspection The process of visual inspection may vary from one switchboard to another depending on the specifications provided by the manufacturer. Components include are type tested assembly construction; dropper/risers and main busbar; harmonic filter, capacitor bank for power factor correction; switches of air circuit breakers/fuse; hydraulic truck; switch for automatic changeover; cables and busbar that are outgoing/incoming; devices for protection and instrumentation; potable grounding devices; rubber insulation mat; and operating handles/keys .
Site Test before Connection of Incoming Supply Several tests comprise the main test involved. This may or may not include test for dielectric, insulation, secondary and primary injection, current transformer polarity, contact resistance, temperature rise limits, and functional test of all devices. Indeed, the connection is needed to be just be tight enough but how is this connection judged? With different factors such as long-term stress, magnetization effects, vibration or room atmosphere, infrared thermography can be used to check for correct tightness of the connection To measure the temperature of the connection. According to NEC standards, temperature between 65oC -75oC is the allowable temperature of the system dependent to the size and rating of the conductor connected.

Specifically, the totalizer gauge’s wires on TWA Flight 800 had been improperly soldered together and had subsequently cracked apart, providing another opportunity for an explosive short circuit. During examination of the gauge at Honeywell, it was determined that electrical energy would cross the crack in the solder between the connector pins when slightly more than 270 volts (less than is used in lighting circuits) was applied to one of the pins. Thus, a short circuit from a higher-voltage wire to any corouted FQIS wiring could result in excess energy being transferred to the CWT.

The first requirement when landing an airplane is to inform air traffic control that you entering the traffic pattern of the airport as you approach. Once the pilot gets the go ahead from air traffic control, he must maintain proper altitude in the traffic pattern until he is lined up with the runway. Before dropping altitude the pilot must go through the landing checklist. The checklist is called the GUMPS check and stands for gas, undercarriage, mixture, power, and seat belt/shoulder harness/systems check. The GUMPS check requires the pilot to check the fuel gauge to determine that the aircraft has enough fuel to land. The “undercarriage” check is the reminder to lower the landing gear. The mixture check reminds the pilot to set the mixture gauge so that the mixture of fuel and air is at the proper level for landing. The Power check reminds the pilot to maintain the proper power level or landing. Finally, the GUMPS check reminds pilot to prepare themselves and their passengers for landing with seatbelts and shoulder harnesses, as well as, to check all the system gauges once more before descending.

The inspector is not required to take any information about the aircraft, previous defect records, clipboards, paper, etc. with them, everything required to perform the inspection is on-line and displayed in a manageable fashion in real time during the inspection. When the inspector completes the inspection, no further input is required. The inspector is not required to take notes and then pass them off to someone else to decipher and input to the system. The information is already in the maintenance database and ready for verification, planning, and scheduling.
