Loukoumades are the most heavenly Greek dessert; most of the time served warm, always drizzled with cinnamon and honey syrup, and sometimes sprinkled with toasted sesame or walnuts. These Greek fried doughnuts are delicious. Ancient Greece is known for them, there are many local shops in Greece where you can get them like, Aigaion, Krinos, LUKUMΑΔΕΣ, and many more. The Aigaion Loukoumades shop is the most famous of all of them. It was established in 1926 and its decoration is very old fashioned. The Krinos Loukoumades shop is the oldest of them all. It was established in 1923. Its decorations are very beautiful. Although Krinos isn’t all about Loukoumades like Aigaion it also serves sandwiches, cheese pies, etc. The LUKUMΑΔΕΣ is newest of them all. It was established a few years ago. The place is modern and has modern decorations the only thing that is old is the Loukoumades. Greek fried doughnuts started being served in Greece around 776 B.C. Loukoumades are considered to be the oldest Greek dessert still being served today. Loukoumades were served in the Greek Olympics. These delicious doughnuts would be served to the winners of the Olympics as “honey tokens”. Lokma are the same things as Loukoumades, fried doughnuts with honey syrup on top. Lokma had a different story to tell. Lokma is from Aegean region of Turkey and are usually served with coffee or at the end of a meal. This dessert was introduced to the Turkish desserts by the sultans of the Ottoman Empire. Centuries later it became a commonly prepared delicacy. Unlike the Loukoumades the Lokma are served at religious festivals along with other desserts. Loukoumades are served as “honey tokens” to the winners in the Olympics and Lokma are served as a finale to a meal at a funeral
